We’re in Johannesburg, South Africa, and we just got off an overnight flight from London. We were in one of Virgin Atlantic’s upper Class cabins. See that video at the link above or below.
This flight, however, will be in economy class even though we bought business class seats. An equipment change meant there were only economy class seats on this segment. And, we’re still waiting for South African Airways to issue a refund for the difference in fare.
We did fly SAA business class on our return flight, and you can see that video at the link above or below.
Not a lot of leg room here for my six-foot frame.
I couldn’t understand why there were two other languages on most everything in the cabin (besides English) and neither was Afrikaans. It’s because SunExpress is a Turkish-German airline and is a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. They currently fly twelve fights a day linking Johannesburg to Cape Town and Durban through their agreement with South African Airways.
Please fast forward to 3:28 if you’d like to skip the takeoff.
Seventeen minutes after takeoff, the crew were passing out snack boxes.
I opted for the “meat” box which was very much like corned beef (or salt beef).
Number One got the Veggie option: basically a small salad with cheese on a roll.
Okay, so, nothing fancy, but it’s a heckuva lot better than what we got recently on an American Airlines, five-hour flight -- in first class. On that flight, we were offered a choice of snacks.
See that disappointing experience at the link above or below.
They were playing the song “Here Comes The Sun” as we headed to the gate.
Please post any comments or questions below. Thanks for watching and --bon voyage!
