Today I go around and show off some of my more lush set ups and showcase how I use Houseplants as a productive aquarium filters for a more natural ecosystem inspired aquarium. TANK ON!!!
i 💚 plants SO much! i enjoyed this video & this is what i love about plant & fish hobby, we’re always learning. i didn’t know that about the plants being better at growing when they’re plain green vs any variegated variety. tyfs & good to know. excellent video, newly svbbed! 🐠
You don't need to buy expensive plants to filter your aquarium. Just get few sweet potato deep one of its end into the tanks and wait for the roots to shoot out. They'll grow wild and keep your tank crystal clear.
Hello. 1-Do you have sand/soil at the bottom of that tank or are the plants just floating in the water? 2-How do you keep your plants erected ? 3-If the plants are planted in the soil, any idea why don't they get root rot? because house plants in a pot get root rot whenever you increase water to the soil
These are water loving plants when u keep them in a tank with no soil and adequate water flow this discourages the bacteria/fungal growth that causes root rot. All immersed plants have no soil. The plants in the aquarium are rooted into the sand. Some of my tanks have a “walstead” substrate with soil underneath and sand topped off. It’s not necessary to have soil with the way I keep my tanks but it does help for the true aquatic plants.
What lights are you using above the houseplants? I recently got some LED bulbs for mine but the info is kind of overwhelming! I read you want to pay attention to Kelvin and Lumens but then some people were saying to look for PPF
Most of the time I just buy whatever they call a “plant bulb” the light over the pond is an industrial grow light because of my brothers previous hobby in growing fruiting plants indoors. Tbh anything with a peak in the red and blue light will do fine. Stuff like pothos don’t really care what lighting u have In my experience
I wanna know what you know cuz I’m working on another project that will hopfully help it’s a fungi that lives in water and has a symbiotic relationship with the plant to increase crop production in a hydro environment and to bring back the flavours you get from having that relationship cuz the fungi exchange minerals for sucrose and plants need the minerals and other nutrients that fungi provide and I wanna choose a edible mushroom so your maximizing food production
I like plants inside the tank, outside the tank, above the tank, everywhere. The more the better! Great group of aquariums and plants you have!
Thank you!!! Appreciate it

Great job! My 20 gallon long is filter less and only filtered by plants and I’m breeding pencil fish successfully
Love to hear it. Fish love natural aquariums!!! You know they love it because they’re breeding!!
@@rayquatics23 yes! You can see it, I posted a short of it on my channel.

Which soil you are using?
A bunch of different ones. Mostly just topsoil some tanks have aqua soil topped with sand and some are just deep sand
