    I currently only have pothos and lucky bamboo growing emersed. I’m gonna have to try some others now. Do your emersed plants’ roots reach down into the substrate?

    Do you have any tips for dealing with honeydew and soot/mold on pothos growing out aquariums? I imagine the standard treatment methods are ill advised if the plant is being used in an aquarium.

    Dwarf umbrella is super invasive

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It can be aggressive but can be managed by dividing it every so often. I keep mine growing in containers and ponds and not in the ground.

    So, instead of waiting for the soil-adapted roots to rot and fall off, would it be better to just cut them off, so water-adapted roots will be able to replace them more quickly?

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I’ve done this in the past, but personally have had better success with letting the roots transition on their own.

  • @jessiebrettspencerbowers7736

    Please be careful. Mangrove roots can crack tanks. Also, lucky bamboo can only survive completely submerged for about 2 months.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před 4 měsíci +3

      Yes, mangroves are trees, I can see how they would outgrow a tank eventually, did you have one crack your tank? My lucky bamboo is above water but it has shoots growing up and out of the water, it’s not a fully aquatic plant for sure, but great in a riparian setting. my oldest ones are over 3 years now.

    • @wcdeich4
      @wcdeich4 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@plantlifeprojectNo, I just read mangroves are known to crack both glass & plastic tanks.

      Mangroves will crack stuff seen in my saltwater how strong they are

    • @wcdeich4
      @wcdeich4 Před měsícem

      @@mikeok5682 I do not know an exact measurement. My advice would be to have them in a hang on filter, or breeder box where their roots do not get into the main substrate of the tank. Have you seen Oak tree roots break sidewalks or ficus tree roots break plumbing pipes? Tree roots can exert a small amount of force of long periods of time that break almost anything.

    • @wcdeich4
      @wcdeich4 Před měsícem

      @@mikeok5682 BTW, I just learned there is a tree called the "Pond Apple" Annona glabra that also grows in water & can tolerate at least high end brackish water (maybe full saltwater), but it also makes a fruit you can eat :) I'm afraid to get one b/c I might be allergic to the flowers. But, if I did get one to grow as a fish tank bonsai, keeping its roots in a hang on back filter or breeder box would be safer.
