    As someone who has participated in company inventories that include the use of scales for counting, I can say that depending on the size of the part and quantity, the use of counting more than one gives a better statistical number. We used 10, 25, 50, 100, etc as the number to get the scale to calculate the per-each weight for the most accurate count. I had to actually count out 500 small plastic washers once to get a reasonable total count of an opened bag. We always used the printed quantity on the package and scale-counted opened packages.

    I cheated slightly by looking up the weight of 500 bolts and decided there was more weight in the jar so guessed 736.

    This was one of the few times I've tried to guess a count (usually not interested in the "prizes") and both times I guessed very low - about 50% of the actual count. Now, If I can just remember that and double my guess next time, maybe I'll have a chance. Congrats to the winners.
