Love it or hate it, I think we can all agree that it's going to be very interesting to see what the Marvel's box office results are after a week or so.
i read in deadline that its projected to do worse than the incredible hulk at 44- 55 million opening weekend.
I’m hoping it has some legs, based on the Rotten Tomatoes audience score. It’s going to seriously underperform, no doubt about that, but it deserves better than this opening weekend for sure.
That 85% rating is misleading cause its only 250+ reviews. 😅😅😅
IF the flick was pure dumpster fire then even 250 people would be more than enough to give it a much lower rating ,..

I went in expecting to hate it and I liked it 🤷🏾
It makes some bold swings you’ll either smile or cringe. The villain is weak but her mission made sense once it’s finally explained. The action scenes were excellent. And that mid credit was great I see why Deadpool was moved to come out after it.
Honestly I think Guardians 3 took a lot more swings than The Marvels and missed lot more. For whatever reason we’re more forgiving with Guardians than this film. Maybe it’s because we haven’t gotten to know this cast in the Marvels as well.
I don't know folks. I just saw The Marvels and I enjoyed it. It was short, tight and I had a good time. The action was fun and the cosmic comic-bookiness of it worked for me. I even liked the Disney lean ins of the controversial musical and cat scenes. Are we so spoiled that we can't enjoy a movie like this? I'm not saying it's top-tier Marvel, but its fun and better than the last few Marvel movies.

Secret Invasion has actually erased itself from my brain. I remember Emilia Clark with the Drax arm and that's about it. So, I can't say I even noticed the Furey discrepency.

Saw the film in IMAX. As someone who liked Captain Marvel I didn’t have low expectations for the sequel, but I did wonder if the negative gossip was legitimate or just the same old Captain Marvel/Brie Larson hate. I enjoyed it, despite not having seen the Ms Marvel show (or any of the Marvel shows). It wasn’t trying to be anything other than a fun and concise superhero movie (but with more cats!) 7/10
To me, this film is good. But it's not great. It's middle of the road MCU. It's at it's best when Carol, Monica, and Kamala are together. I loved the training sequence of them learning how to fight with their powers entangled. But I also love how even though they're used to it during the fights, they still don't have a 100% handle on it. I love that Carol really is a war veteran, trying to split her home side and her deployed side and not feeling like she is worthy of being home. That is something a lot of service members go through. The plot is a bit thin. I guess that’s why it's 105 minutes and not 2 and half hours. The villain has a decent motivation but it's not fully fleshed out. With Monica and Kamala, it did feel a little like watching an extended episode of TV. I loved the stuff with the cats and the escape pods but I can get why some wouldn't.
Of course John didn't like the last scene because it sets up a project that he was adamant that will never happen.

Is it basic, sure. Is it the worst film ever made, no. The hate for this film is crazy when there are so many worse films.
Stealing planets atmosphere , water and SUN are the most ridiculous plot points in a non comedy movie I've ever heard, did a 5 year old write this thing ? Like how is anything alive on Hala without air water and an active sun ? And movie logic doesn't cut it when it's this unbelievable
Low crowd numbers makes an 85% approval score easily attained. People that wouldn’t like it didn’t go at all.

Finally saw the movie on Disney + glad I didn’t pay to watch this. This movie was a reck, I like Aquaman 2 better.
It was fun. I LOLed during the cat scene. Could've been longer. Agreed, more backstory & reconciliation. I need to see a Captain Marvel without power restrictions.
The chemistry of the lead cast and comedic timing of most of the characters.
I absolutely enjoyed it..its not groundbreaking and think the studio got scared from recent release and just gave us a "greatest hits" montage type of film which killed the storyline
I remember being mad at Avengers: Infinity War for showing Hulk running with the Avengers in the trailer only to see him COMPLETELY sidelined throughout the whole the movie and have him backed out from the fights. Such a huuuge disappointment. As for the Marvels i loooved it!! It was sooo much fun!! Yaa the singing planet at times was a WTF moment and serves better in Thor: L&T and villain was meh. But the rest was a hoot! And the action was great. The ending and end credit scene got me excited. My whole theater cheered and clapped

because director of a movie and director of secret invasion probably never met in their lifes, nor anybody bothered to keep bigger storyline together.
TV show relised month ago- it's washed up , drunky grandpa Nick Cry-ury who is sobbing around looking like he is ready for suicide. Fast forward- a month- It's not Nick Fury from 2010s, it's not suicide watch Cry-ury it's Nick Funny. Like , guy behaved like Dave Chappele was doing skit on him.
It was way better than Ant-Man: Quantumania and Thor: Love & Thunder

Just got outta the theaters. Film was decent. Villain was horrible. Iman.. was INCREDIBLE
I liked it. Mostly I enjoyed the character stuff.
Carol, Monica, and Kamal played off each other really well. Carol is finally getting to show more personality. And Kamala is just so likeable.
Also Carol and Nick Fury are always great together as well.
This film made Secret Invasion feel even more pointless and mishandled.
I get why others might not like it, but I thought the dance planet was funny. And Brie Larson has a quite lovely singing voice as well.
I have 3 daughters 2 said no they do not want to see it my little one went with me ..then in the middle she wanted to leave ...I was oh hell ya let's get out of here ..

Plenty of issues with the movie but over i enjoyed and had a good time.
This movie was fun, funny and entertaining i thoroughly enjoyed it
I saw the movie yesterday and really liked it. Good acting, sympathetic characters (Kamalas geek-outs a adorable), great visuals (I absolutely recocommend the 3D experience) and an interesting story about guilt and revenge. My only small issue is that one or two scenes felt they end a little bit permaturely but that's it. Overall it is fun, and we can need that right now. (I will post this review on other channels that I subscribed to)

Dar-Benn does say "She killed my (master or some word like that)" early in the movie. So... maybe it just wasn't written in crayon for everyone.
Movie was so loved by the audience, that it's didn't even cross 50 millions in first weekend
Just because they didn't make a lot of money doesn't mean the people who did see it didn't like it
Ant Man 3 was also loved by the audience and had a bigger big office weekend, but it still ultimately sucked like this movie

This film really gave Carol Danvers much needed humanity that all her other appearances lacked.
@@majorlazor5058 I like the concept a bit more than the execution, but totally agree. It is nothing you wouldn’t see in another sci-fi property or even ripped straight from the pages of a comic.
Also strongly agree on the second point. Found Carol infinitely more likable than in previous appearances. I have plenty of issues with the movie, but I’m fine with some entries being a light, fun, airy romps like this.
@@possessedbygenesis8585 the scene reminded me of that planet in Rise of Skywalker where the locals happened to of been celebrating a once in a 100 year holiday. I felt this was done much better because it gave the locals some background and explained their culture a little bit

I think the villain could have been so much better if they had done her backstory as the opening of the film instead of leaving her motivation a mystery until half way through. Like, if we saw the events she narrates later on as they were happening instead of just getting glimpses while she monologues. I think it would have grounded her and made us understand where she was coming from. Overall I love what they were going for with her, but in the end they came up a bit short imo
Agreed. Should have done a back story for her. I assume she was Ronan the Accuser’s successor?
I gotta say, this movie blew my expectations out of the water.. I did not go in thinking I'd particularly like it but willing to give it a shot, came away feeling pretty good! The 3D sci-fi hooked me, it does not disappoint.

I understand why people say there aren’t strong emotional threads. Maybe the could have added 10-15 mins of story telling to add to the weight of Capt Marvels motivations and decision making. But Guess what, it’s just a fun super hero movie.
Can I tell u. I want muneeba Khan solo movie. She was my favorite part of the movie. I was laughing hard clapping and cheering. I adored the marvels!

Idk where your optimism came from. I thought everyone knew the Thanos tease was clear nostalgia bait and deception. Like the Dar Benn character being a Kree accuser trying to steal resources to rebuild Hala has nothing to do with Thanos’s mission to reduce population density to prevent overconsumption and the birth of new celestials.

Def a weak movie and weaker villain than usual like everyone says. But its pretty baller move on Igers part to put paychecks failures into Photon dreams and the blip was the cancer in her hospital bed. So happy that Beast became the first mutant and Xmen bc of him being in the Og team just not blue yet but ill let it slide. Hope everyone had a wonderful day and show.

I just saw The Marvels and the movie is not that bad. It’s just fine, and I think MCU fans are starting to ask for too much for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The villain in a movie is extremely important to me… I’d say about 50% of my opinion of a movie is based off of the villain and their motivations and their performance… this villain was forgettable at best.

Good point with the tenor of Nick Fury being off. I thought the movie was okay, but I was really irritated about the deceptive advertising with Thanos in the last couple of trailers. It was suggested that Dar'benn was a Thanos disciple. Nope...The other thing was this should've been the third movie. The second one should've been the Captain Marvel story of her destroying the Kree Supreme Leader and Hala. You can't just give exposition and a couple of flashbacks for that.

Honestly with all the reviews i saw and the trailers i thought this was going to be terrible and considering i think the first captain marvel is prob one of the worst mcu movies made.... I liked this one. Its not perfect but it was fun and i cant remember the last time i was actually laughing and smiling for a mcu film.
I think during the mcu hype days the reviews and people tended to get swept in the hype and rate some of the movies higher than they deserved and now are more critical. This is not a mess of a film. Its not great but its a good and fun time. But each his own. Mine is only a subjective opinion

I really enjoyed it. There is so much Bad in real life right now and this is what i needed right now to smile again.
Definitely a far cry from Guardians 3, but still a definite winner. Yes, the plot was a ripoff... but it was a good time. I laughed out loud a few times, including said cheezy song and dance scenes. It's something that I will also watch again.
The brush of hate towards this movie is depressing. All of that towards a movie that was just fun..what ever happened to fun!

John said something interesting. He said Secret Invasion was suppose to be after the Marvels... Uh it was never slated after the Marvels. Initially Secret Invasion was actually suppose to be around the same time as Guardians 3 meaning it came before the Marvels. So yeah the Nick Fury in The Marvels is the Nick Fury after Secret Invasion.

Which makes the whole Nick Fury persona seem off to me.
The only two great Marvel movies after Endgame are No Way Home and Guardians 3. The rest have all been bad or eh/okay.
It was good movie, I enjoyed it. I keep telling people not every Marvel movie is going to be like Endgame. You can't go into every movie thinking it going to a big blockbuster. This one was a great family movie and eat some popcorn.
Endgame wasn't a great film. It was just a huge spectacle which distracted you from the fact that the story telling is paper thin. Also crazy low expectations and indoctrination to be ok with a mediocre film just because it is filled with superheroes

My kids loved it. Wasn’t so much for me but I’m just happy my girls can have something Marvel for them too, doesn’t all have to be for me. Loki was my bit of MCU this week!
This movie is minimum requirements to be a marvel movie.
My 12 year old daughter and I saw it earlier today and both had a load of fun. We even enjoyed the two scenes John didn't like. The movie was worth it for the mid credit scene

For the first half the movie, I thought the villain was angry because her son was dying. Not her SUN. When I pieced together it was the actual fucking SUN I was like ooooohhhh. But she was a terrible villain. So cartoony.
