The concept of sacrifice was portrayed beautifully. As another person mentioned, usually such scenes show the protagonist dying with a smile but emil here showed a much more human emotion in sacrifice. He did not want to die, lose his friends, but still made the hardest choice. Man, Yoko Taro really knows how to make a grown man cry.
He isn't scared to show the hard truths.
It wouldn’t be a sacrifice if it was done willingly.
I mean technically he IS smiling like, all the time tho
Being brave doesn’t mean charging forward, it means even when scared still moving forward

This scene has me sobbin' like a bozo. Especially the way poor little Emil crawls up into a ball, vocalizing his wish to stay with his friends.
Props to the voice actors, you can hear the heartbreak in all their voices, but I think it’s Kaine simply saying “no” that really stabbed me in the gut.
Wasn't as good as Gestalt , Kaine felt half assed in replicant remake and it made me stop playing
@White_Wrath strongly disagree. Og was more emotional, but remake was just shocked. You can't say her screaming his name was half assed.

If you listen very closely at 2:39, you can almost hear Emil saying Nier (which is your character's actual name) instead of calling you by the name you chose in the beginning. In the original version of this, Emil was just quiet when the game displayed the character's name
SO I ENTERED "NIER" AS my name, of course, and when he said this i freaked the fuck out, thinking somehow the game made emil say the name you entered. but this makes much more sense.

It's not really the character's actual name, but the title of the game, which fans took to using to refer to the protagonist and Yoko Taro (the creative director) ended up giving up on insisting that it's not his name when he was urged to give him an actual name for the related material (such as the Grimoire Nier, in which he had to be referred to as something). In a 2020 interview, he even said that it's not his real name as far as the game itself is concerned, but he had to begrudgingly write it as such outside of that. That all said, they probably added "Nier" as Emil's line in that moment because of this, but still kept all the noise over it to obscure it in case you picked something different.

I'm currently playing Replicant for the first time. I didn't know anything about the series when I bought Automata a year or so ago. It's been kind of interesting to go out of order. But I'm not too sad about Emil because I already knew that he shows up again.

I played in a blind run NieR RepliCant without knowing that Emil is in Automata.
At that point, he was (and still is) my favorite character alongside with Kainé, after seeing that scene, I thought I would never see him again.
I cried for quite a few minutes.
10/10 Game, gave me depression
When i played this game for the first time and got to this cutscene...I wasnt sure if i wanted to keep playing...Spoiler: Then you get to Kaine's -Walkthrough- and start hearing the shades and then...it becomes legitimately HARD to keep playing knowing what your really doing. Like....Seriously. I still havent touched the controller after -Spoilers- Rekilling the poor,poor Cerberus :(

Legit I cried all night because of this. Only to find out he survived. Only for (spoilers) for Emil being immortal being an even worse fate for him causing me to cry for even more nights.

Nier is underrated as a series. Full stop. Even the 2010 original is genius and well executed (underrated, even), in spite of its flaws. If only more media was this smart, introspective, and passionate.

While I love the remake, the way he said I don't want to die in the original is a whole different level of sad. A bit disappointed but the entirely of the rest of the game is immaculate.

Played Automata before Relplicant.
After all this, that fight in Automata is pure horror, conceptually speaking.
I don’t think that attack Emil did was an explosion. It was actually a sort of spherical worm hole that transported Emil, Devola, and Popola to the 14th century which is why you see them like they are alive and anew in Nier Automata. You know that time travel effect in the terminator movies? Emil’s attack was something like that.
But those twins models are different from the ones here
Emil appears at the very end of Ending B landing in a Desert, and in NieR Automata it's revealed that he has been fighting the aliens ever since they attacked which is around the year 5012 A.D. and Automata takes place in 11945, so no i don't think he time traveled to the future

Yes. This is a remastered game from Xbox 360
The story is the same as the PS3 game from Japan a slight variation on the Version we got in the West for Xbox 360 and PS3. But it's remastered and improved.
No. It is one of two versions that came out in Japan. We received the father edition (nier gestalt) back on ps3 and Xbox 360. This is the second version when you play the brother and it has an added ending and several cut out scenes. But yes it is new to us.

If you played Automata then you know
In ending C or D of replicant you see that his body held up and he survived but landed in the dessert. After that it leads into Ending E or Automata depending on what you believe. As for what happens in between you can read “around the world in 80 days.” It’s about Emil’s travels after this scene. Hope that helps!

Well considering their plan would've Literally saved all of humanity while Nier's uh...."plan" caused it's extinction

Original voice acting is better, the part where he says "Die" in the original really gets the emotion across of feeling very little and afraid of whats about to happen.
