  • The events at the Stonewall Inn in 1969 were a vital turning point in LGBTQ+ history, but it wasn’t the start of the gay liberation movement. Eric Marcus from Making Gay History explains why it’s so important to honor the memory of Stonewall, 50 years later.

In honor of Pride month 2019, Eric Marcus from Making Gay History sat down with NowThis News to talk about the Stonewall riots and how Stonewall became a turning point for the gay rights movement. Pride 2019 marks the 50th Stonewall anniversary. This is a momentous occasion for people who are LGBTQ, meaning they are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer or questioning. Pride month, sometimes known as LGBT history month, celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and the struggles it has had to overcome. This short Stonewall Riots documentary from Now This News gives valuable insight into LGBTQ+ history.

Funny how "Land of the Free" really isn't.

Silly comment. It's "Land of profit", hasn't been "Land of the Free" for a couple of decades. 😧

Freedom isn’t free. It demands payments/dues. And that’s okay. As long as we have freedoms to do that, it’s fair. It’ll take great effort, sacrifice, and time. It’ll get better. I hope.

Thank you for taking a stand. My Better Half is a transgender woman. We'll celebrate our 14th anniversary this Fall. Without your courage, we wouldn't have met, and I don't know where we would be. Thank you so much!

I'm way too young to remember the Stonewall. So it's awesome to learn about the people involved.

"Do you want your son to be enticed into the world of homosexauls.
    *Or*
You daughter to be lured into lesbianism"
Dunno why but this guy made me laugh.

That was George Putnam from KTTV Los Angeles; 50s and 60s. He was one of, it not the biggest celebrity newscasters in Los Angeles/Hollywood at the time.
