Goodness gracious me - fabulous video! I'm a GR shooter, and some of these 'secrets' where just that! Secrets that had escaped me. I shall be utilizing a few of them 🎉 Thank you!
Thank you. So happy to hear these tips are useful.
Great list. To add holding the picture view button while the camera is off allows you to see the pictures/edit as well enter the menu system without having the lens extend. When done you can press play again to turn off or the power button. Holding the movie button while on can toggle the Wi-Fi on and off
Thanks for adding these tips.
Thanks for the tips and enjoy your coffee!
You are so welcome!
Auto EV compensation is an underrated feature in this camera. It works in manual mode also. You can dial in your preferred aperture and shutter speed and you'll get those values for most shots, unless it gets really dark or bright and then the camera will take over. I don't think this is a very common feature in other camera brands.
Just bought myself a GRIIIX(which should reach me next week) after reselling a few DSLR lenses and after spending a few days with a GRIII. The GR ergonomics, user interface and settings paradigms are completely different from everything else and the breadth of customisation is more than amazing. The downside of that is that one has to "forget" a lot of the automated logic and muscle memory built through the years on other systems. It can be intimidating to do so. It is the case for me anyway. This video has brought to light a number of wonderful features that I probably would never have noticed on my journey approaching this camera. It did so while keeping things clear and simple. So a big thank you for that! After watching it, I feel even more excited with my "return to Ricoh" (had a film GR1 back in the days, and deeply miss it ever since it drowned in a flooded tent).
Thanks so much and good to hear my video is useful.
Great list of features you pointed out. The combination of built in ND filter, IBIS, minimum shutter speed, and maximum ISO gives the ability to create some amazing handheld images.
Interesting features. Internal memory is something that every digital camera should have. Having only 40 "possibilities" can make one's photography better. Limiting yourself makes you think more instead of just hiring away hundreds of images.
Thanks bro. Yes, I fully agree that internal memory should be standard in every camera. 40 is nice nice number and it makes you think😀
Matti, thanks for shedding light on these features....Gotta love the GR's....Love your GR videos watching from the USA.... Keep it up man....
Many thanks!
Many thanks Matti
Another great video, concise and waffleless.
Auto EV comp and Program Line are an eye opener.
Many thanks
Thank you.
Thanks, Matti! Great list. I've just had my GRIII for a little while so these tips are really useful!
Great to hear and thanks. Please also check out my latest video about the new firmware update: czcams.com/video/8L-2ZgyqbRs/video.html
Great info. I just bought GRIII x not long ago and this video is very helpful in setting up. Thank you.

That was a wonderful presentation. Thank you 😊
Thank you for watching.
thanks Matti - super helpful.
Happy to help! Thanks for watching.
Just bought a GR3x. Really appreciate your videos as they have helped me enormously both to choose and enjoy the camera. Used to subscribe to you when I had M43 cameras - now have Nikon full-frame as well as the GR - and now subscribed again! Really like your approach; thank you for your efforts!
Any good?
Most useful video about Ricoh GRIII✌️
Thank you.
Thank you!! Really useful video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Matti. As a new GR111X owner I found this very helpful. I found the internal memory feature extremely interesting and had no idea it was in the camera. Thank you!
Thanks and good hear the video was helpful.
Thank you for very useful tips. Nice video 🎉
My pleasure 😊
Very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Thank you. I did not know about many of these features.
Thanks for watching!

Awesome! Thank you!
Great tips! Thanks
Thank you.
Thank you for the video. Really useful for new owners like me.
Glad it was helpful!
Ricoh ambassador :) Thanks for the tips
Thanks. Not ambassador yet😀
Custom iso correction feature amazed me, i would have seen it on Panasonic!
Awesome 👏👍
Thanks for the visit.
Really helpful video - thanks…..it’s a shame that all cameras don’t have a built in memory….what a brilliant feature :- )
Thank you. True, every camera should have internal memory.
Great video. I didn't use my GR3 intensely but I really must admit that I even hadn't heard of some of these features…
Thanks.
The gr3x is way better than i expected. Im very happy with it
Thanks. It really is a super camera, mighty midget😀
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Great video. I reckon many photographers at the amateur or prosumer level (like me!) wouldn't really know some of the features on their cameras no matter what the manufacturer or model! I use some of the features you talk about on my GRIII/X but many are "new" to me. Thanks again.
Thanks so much.
Thx.
Great video. I am going to buy one as soon as I get over my nervousness re my wife. She may not be happy that I have another camera.
Thanks
Thank You!
Excelente.
Thanks.
Nice
Thanks.
The GR cameras have a lot of great features.
Thanks. Yes, many features come from Pentax😀
This was great thanks! What do you have your ND filter setting set to please Matti?
Thanks. I set the ND to Auto and it works well for me.
Excellent video
Good for the knowledgeable photographer.
Not cheap.
£900. in uk 🇬🇧.
Thanks!
Great video. Barely made a 40 min connection in Helsinki last week. Sorry I missed you.
Thanks. You would have missed me anyway, because I'm in Malaysia right now🙂
@@mattisulanto I live in Penang. Let me know if you come to George Town. Good place for street photography.
@@davidhanson7677 Sure thing. I'll let you know if I come to Penang.
welcome to malaysia!
Thanks. I have been here already for six months🙂
Thanks! On your last video I commented this camera is overpriced & people should keep their hand from it. I changed my mind after this video. Thanks.
Thanks. It's sometimes easy to make hasty decisions, we all do that😀
I think I may switch to only internal memory on the griiix. Thanks!
Thanks. Why not, if you don't need more storage.
@@mattisulanto adds a bit of excitement
How/where can I track my rewards progress?
I'm going back and forth with the GRiiX and the GRiii and X100v... lol leaning towards the x because i like the 40mm focal length
That's a great focal length for everything😀
That's a great focal length for everything.
Great video! I am a new owner of the GRiiiX and have been using primarily the P-Mode with DOF program line. I understand the different program lines (DOF, max aperture and normal) and what they do but I'm interested to hear which you use and which suit different situations. I find that max aperture pretty well keeps it at 2.8 at all times and I am more likely to miss focus with it. The DOF on the other hand hovers around 4.5 and I have gotten better results.
Thanks. Please check out my GR3 playlist and you'll find more info on the camera and on how I use mine: czcams.com/play/PLkkZKkR0lgqkRwelW-mDgztjsEu3Im5TS.html
great video thanks...I still don't get snap focus - if i set it to 3m but shoot something at e.g. 1m or 5m is it out of focus?
It depends on the f stop, please experiment in real life situations.
It depends. You can program a button to specifically invoke snap focus, than the camera will focus at that pre-programmed distance, period. (Or even set the lcd-display to take a picture with snap focus distance by tapping the lcd). In these cases the actual distance and the aperture value will determine the depth of field. But there is another case, I'm surprised Matti didn't mention it: *Full press snap*. This is an additional setting. With this your camera works like any camera, with auto focus and half-pressing the shutter button etc. BUT if you swiftly press the shutter button all the way, the camera won't focus, but take a picture at the pre-programmed distance (which you can set via the short menu if you customize your short menu with it). Full press snap really is the best of both worlds: have AF most of the time, and if something worth taking a picture happens very quickly, just press the shutter button quickly.
I have one use Snap, f8 2m shutter 1/500, photos don’t look sharp.
how about a wireless remote release option for GR !?!?!?!?
You forgot THE most important “hidden” feature: the highlight weighted metering!
Great feature!
The single killer feature on nikon as well… Fuji needs to add this to their cameras… ASAP!
When this metering can be used or should not be used ?
@@amvjWell it should be used when you want that “arty” (generally b&w) high contrast look on your pictures.
@@amvj when you’re shooting in well lit and high contrast situations- and retaining highlight details is more important than shadow details. Another example - primarily white birds - swans for instance- and wanting to retain feather details
Thanks for reminding us of the exceptional gr features. It is a shame there isn’t an interchangeable lens model. I’m thinking about Fuji Film’s x100v and xe-4 models that share the same sensor/processor.
Thanks. There are so many system cameras already and it would not the the same any more😀
i got a new gr 3x and i am not sure if its normal.
I got a rattling sound when i am shaking the camera while the camera is off. The shakeing noises are from the lens. If the lens is extended (and the camera on), than there are no noises. Is that normal?
It's probably the stabilizer. That is normal with every stabilized lens or camera.
I've just acquired the GR3. I'm still struggling to find all the settings. Some are totally unfamiliar to me.
Go through the camera menu and try the settings, experiment.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Why not using a Sony 6xxx APS-C with a Prime GM Lens?
There are many options of course depending on what you prefer.
Does the Ricoh GR3 have a wide angle lens? I really need a camera with a wide angle lens.
The lens is a 28mm equivalent.
The Ricohs have a great feature set but why haven't any been built with a titling screen?
I think they wanted to keep the camera smaller and simpler. You can't please everyone.
@@mattisulanto I cannot believe a tilting screen would add to much bulk but it would add additional versatility. I like fixed lens cameras as they remind me of my Contax T3 film camera but for me a modern camera must have a tilting screen. As you say, you cannot please everyone. Keep up with the great content!
Which one should I buy?
SONY a6100 (with sigma lens to be at the same price with GR3x) vs Ricoh GR3x
Only you can answer that. You have to figure out what you want. The GR is a pocket camera and the Sony is not. The GR has a fixed lens and the Sony has interchangeable lenses. Two completely different cameras.
@@mattisulanto Thank You. 🙏
Is this camera good for landscape?
Yes it is. However, if you only shoot landscapes you may want to consider other options too.
Where is the link to buy you a coffee? Can't find it. I got a lot out of this video.
Thanks for even thinking about that. The link is under the video, but I'll put it here too: www.buymeacoffee.com/sulantoblog
Wish I could program the camera using software on my computer rather then having to dig trough the menu’s.
Yeah, that would be awesome. I think that is or has been possible with some cameras.
Secret #13 to myself, don’t confuse the shutter speed to the ISO setting. They do different things……lol
Yes, remember that and your results may improve😀
Focos Focos lol
What happens if someone in Finland buys you a cup of coffee? I guess it's tax issues but you made me curious.
It's not a tax issue, it's something more complicated and too much to explain here. Out legislation is weird😀 Basically I can't accept donations from my home country.
12 secret features that are literarly in the manual and are the base of the ricoh GR 😂
I'd appreciate if you'd first watch the video and then comment. Please at least take a look at 0:28.
@@mattisulanto i did watch the video, feature by feature. Still a clickbait title, it doesn't change anything that you aknowledge it :)
@@AlexandreSantini That's your opinion and you are entitled to it, of course. This video has now about 27 000 views and quite a few comments and you are the first one to say it's a clickbait. If you read some of the comments, you'll see that there are many GR owners who did know of theses features. You can, of course, find all these features in the manual and also browsing the menu. But, most never read the menu or get to know their camera properly. They just want to get shooting quickly. That's why YT is full of camera tips and tricks and people love them. These videos also remind you that your camera has features that you may have forgotten. Modern cameras are so feature rich that it's easy to ignore some less frequently used features. Not everyone is as expert and thorough with their cameras as you are. I actually wonder why you even watched the video, because you already know every feature in your GR and you probably are much better photographer than most of us too. Anyway, all the best to you and I hope you'll snap many more awesome photos on your GR😀
watched too much @samuelstreetlife gr videos why am i even watching this i dont even have a gr lol 😅
Thanks for dropping by. You'll soon have a GR😀
