    Syd! Thanks for this. I have a 2009 Camry, and as the years progress, and I get older, I can't see the road at night. So, I blamed my eyes of course. But it was getting so bad, I had to try something, so I got new bulbs. No help. I got the outside of the lenses buffed up. No good. Got spiffy new LED bulbs at suggestion of dealer. Nada. Checked voltages. All good. Your explanation rang true with me, so I ponied up and bought new aftermarket headlight assemblies and OMG, I can see now. (I bought midrange on price - $160USD each side, but OEM is more like $360USD. Bit of a crap shoot when buying, but I had to do something). Why don't dealers, and parts suppliers talk about the degradation problems of projector headlights? You sir, are a genius.

Yeah, I see loads and loads of posts on forums of people complaining about headlight performance on cars approaching 10 years old, and they always spend a ton of money on different bulbs to no gain, but no-one ever seems to suggest it's the projectors themselves, when, to an Engineer, it so obviously must be!

    Same problem on a Ford Focus mk3. I used a cheap inspection camera to peek inside to have a look at the reflector surrounding the xenon bulb. The lower half didn't have any reflective coating left at all! Unfortunately Ford used Permaseal on the headlights so I found it easier to get some complete lamps from a newer car. I used the same inspection camera to verify that the newer frontlight was in better shape. Before doing this I wasted money on new bulbs. Thanks for this video!

    I personally a fan of projectors as like you said they are brighter than the standard reflector headlights especially I’m running on HIDs and they are a lot brighter than halogens!😊 my car did come with reflector lamps and I converted to projectors so I can legally run HIDs in projectors so they won’t be light scatter all over the place! If I use in reflectors the light output will just send everywhere and just keep getting flashed at! Great video by the way!😊

I've tested both 16,000LM and 22,000LM bulbs side by side at the same time in the car and they are BOTH the same exact brightness and neither are bright at all for that matter. Why is that no one addresses the positioning of a halogen bulb in the projector assembly? I just bought a set of headlamp housings for a VW Passat. They came wired backwards, to begin with (high beam connector to low beam bulb, etc), but that was a simple fix: just drag the wiring to the right place. The REAL problem is that when the H7 bulb is properly seated in the low beam projector, the light output is quite dim. With the bulb released from the clamp, but powered, I find I can move the bulb back a bit and the light output gets much brighter. That means the filament is NOT in the focal point of the assembly. I need to fix that. Any thoughts on THAT issue?

      @CycloneCyd  Před 3 lety +3

      I would say that you have 2 or 3 choices:
      1. you could use these direct E55 replacements (OE equivalent) and swap the bulb holder from the original halogen projector onto these bit.ly/E55_replacement
      2. you could use the same EVOX-R 2.0 projectors I did (bit.ly/Sinolin_EVOX_R_2_0) and upgrade to xenon lights. Also need ballast and driver kit bit.ly/HID_convo_kit
      3. go wild and fit a set of gen4 projectors bit.ly/Sinolin_EVOX_R_GEN4 also needs the ballast kit above.
      Depends a little on what you are trying to achieve. I'm very pleased with my new projectors. Decent light on dip beam (needs adjusting so may yet improve) and stunning main beam performance. Options 2 and 3 will only cost you a bit over £100 to do the pair and is a great value upgrade for the money IMO
      You will also need headlight butyl sealant bit.ly/H_light_Sealant

I've been thinking of converting to the original xenon headlights, level control sensors, light switch unit. Of course I have the ballasts and ignition transformers. I have been studying WIS and EPC but I'm not getting smarter. Converting the Halogen headlights to Xenon is not legal in Sweden, but it is to convert to the original Xenon-system, even if you might have to "re-register" the car. If you'd put some kind of Xenon-conversionkit it won't pass the inspection once a year. :/ I really hope I'll be able to fit the original xenon system, though. • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  Před 4 lety +3

      The OE lenses do not go cloudy with time. That's how they are made. They have a Fresnel pattern in the glass and are made of glass that is ever so slightly milky white. That's why you can buy crystal clear lenses to retrofit. These EVOX-R projectors come with clear lenses like I show in the video.
      Believe it or not, that pair of complete projectors bought from the manufacturer in China were cheaper than a pair of just clear lenses would have been from a certain outlet in the US ❗❗

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  Před 3 lety +7

      New information: you were correct, the lenses do get 'cloudy' after some years. It's caused by the heat evaporating plasticisers and other chemicals out of the plastics that make up the headlight structure and some of this condenses on the lenses. It's the same reason your windscreen gets 'misty' on the inside, especially during sunny weather. To clean the lenses you'll have to take your headlights apart. I disagree. OEM Hella reflectors are dull from factory on purpose. only aftermarket replacements are mirror finished, at least for the E55 Projector style. The real issue for declining performance is gas and fumes that condense on the inside of the glass lense. that is easily seen when you power up a new halogen bulb on open air. the first few seconds you clearly notice some smoke raising from the glass. withe certain, not all, headlights using the E55 heat can get trapped at the top of the headlight which will make the reflictive surface peel off from the reflector bowl.
    (the dull reflector finish compared to mirror finish makes a more even light, doesn't change overall output at all. If anything, Hella uses frosted glass lenses that can be replaced with clear variants. that makes a real difference)

      Hello again, apparently the EVOX-R 2.0 *IS* compatible with AFR headlights, but it needs "some modification" - but what the mod req'd is unknown. Also, apparently, if you have AFR headlights, the EVOX-R 1.0 is easier to fit with less modding required. The cynic in me thinks that latter info might be just because the supplier concerned has a stock of EVOX-R 1.0 to get rid of ❗ I'm in touch woth a couple of 9-3 breakers, so during this week I might see if I can get hold of a dirt cheap, damaged 08on headlight to experiment on.

      Great if you could find a 08- head light to try this on.

      There is a company in Germany that will refurbish your reflectors using aluminium vapour deposition bringing them back to like new, but it costs about 60 Euros per reflector. OR you could get a local classics restorer to chrome them, but you'd still be looking at 40 per. If you have proprietary projectors that can't be easily replaced like the E55s, this would be a good option (think Jaguar XK-R).

    Damn, I was hoping you had the ones for Toyota, as aftermarket headlamp assemblies for Toyota and Mazda are absolute garbage, and I can't say it any kinder than that.

      An alternative might be to get the projector reflectors out and send them to a classic restorer who can chrome plate them.

    I will never buy another car with projector lens. It is a deal breaker. I cannot even buy the replacement part except dealer that wants $1200 each ($2400 total). My car isnt even worth $10000. Horrible nissan junk
