Dude Torts standing up for a dude that he clashed with multiple times, always remembering that he's a person. I don't always see eye to eye with the coach, but man, he's a real one.
Torts is absolutely right on this. The reporter basically caused Kevin Hayes death threats and mocking ms of his dead brother. That’s at best irresponsible and at worst pure evil.
The reporter didn't cause the death threats and trolling, people decided to do that all on their own. I think the reporter was fully in the wrong, love Torts, and love his response here, but I think it's Philly sports fans that should be the most embarrassed here.

Reminds me of my junior varsity 🏈 coach when I played high school ball. My coach used choice language towards us and called us out when we deserved it. Yet, we loved playing for him. Cause he cared about us, wanted success for us, worked very well with the personnel he had, always had our backs and genuinely did not play favorites.

Torts seems like a great guy to play for. He may be tough and demanding but he has your back. If Gauthier didn't want to be a Flyer because he's scared of him, then that says more about him than it says anything about Torts. He's had the same approach for almost 25 years.
Let's also not forget the numerous wins, playoff appearances, a Stanley cup, oh and a Calder cup. He's one everywhere he's gone. Says more about him as a coach than anything.

I've been a part of a few of these situations that were similar. Kid signs with a team. Team says he should take more time to develop. Kid gets pissed, sounds off to another guy who recently left the team Former player tells him coach is ass and hard to play for Kid decides to jump ship since he thinks/knows he's ready for the NHL Multiple people have said Hayes has his prints all over this. Which gets down to what Hayes said. As long as Hayes is still in the league, he's never going to come 100% clean on what they talked about or what he may have said to Gauthier and he can just deny it till the cows come home. The other part is HOW Gauthier interpreted what Hayes said. What if he just said Torts is a demanding coach so be prepared - or maybe we went full scorched earth and said Torts is an ass, the org sucks, the GM sucks, you shouldn't play there. We'll never know. In the end, Torts' stood up for Hayes which is admirable and defended their relationship. Philly is playing some great puck right now so I doubt this story has any real legs and should die down pretty quickly.
As a Bruins fan...I can't like Coach Tortorella...but as a hockey fan and even as a human being...I *love* how he sticks with his team AND (especially) when he pounds on the BS from the "press". Keep it up, Coach!

John tortorella is a great coach. I loved him in Vancouver. Everyone blocks shot like for the Canucks the sedins even blocked shots. It doesn’t matter if you’re an all star your still blocking shots that’s what makes him so good
But that’s why it didn’t work. They aren’t a shot blocking group. Plus the drama of benching Luongo and everything. Just, bad for us. However, I will say, he had and still has my respect for how he dealt with the line brawl vs the Flames

Torts is a blunt, honest and tough but ultimately a fair coach/boss. You always know where he stands with you. Young players or players not used to that style will take that as him being an a-hole. Other or older players who've seen different styles of coaching may not like his approach sometimes but will always respect him and know that he cares.

Torts has always been a coach that just loves the game. Hes willing to do hard things with his team that u have to do as a coach. When a coach starts making decisions based on who he likes off the ice the team will get pissed on the ice they arent making the tough decisions. I had a coach like that who wouldnt play his best lines on pp but on pk he let the D coach run lines and he ran the right lines. The head coach didnt wanna hurt feelings but the team wants to win play the best guys for the job. If u cant do that u cant coach. Torts is a coach u want. Love Torts. Him becoming head coach was one of the best things to happen to Philadelphia hockey in... probably a decade. He's been a large part of turning a listless, hopeless club with little going for it into the highlight of Philadelphia sports (sorry, Eagles, maybe do better than losing 6 games in a row in spectacular fashion). The worst part of him as HC are the soft Flyers fans who whine about him being too harsh and are doing a victory lap claiming vindication now that that Gauthier hoser is in Anaheim now.
I have no connection to the Flyers but I will always root for any team that employs Tortorella after his comments back when he was the US Olympic oach. He made it clear that anyone who knelt during the Anthem “wouldn’t see the ice”. The POS media gave him flack for it but the man flat-out has morals.

He's been a large part of turning a listless, hopeless club with little going for it into the highlight of Philadelphia sports (sorry, Eagles, maybe do better than losing 6 games in a row in spectacular fashion).
The worst part of him as HC are the soft Flyers fans who whine about him being too harsh and are doing a victory lap claiming vindication now that that Gauthier hoser is in Anaheim now.
Torts is one of the best dudes in hockey. And old fashioned? You mean, disciplined? Accountability? Honest?

I have no connection to the Flyers but I will always root for any team that employs Tortorella after his comments back when he was the US Olympic oach. He made it clear that anyone who knelt during the Anthem “wouldn’t see the ice”. The POS media gave him flack for it but the man flat-out has morals.

Awesome he stands up for a former player. But I think he’s attacking the wrong target here. Maybe the reporter was irresponsible about their sourcing, but reporters are supposed to report things even if they might “cause trouble.” So to hold the reporter responsible for other people sending death threats is crazy to me. Those fans need to check themselves and do better. Torts shoulda called them out.
