I relate to this story. I am a face painter and I just went to my first conference for entertainers. I did not know I could charge more until I had another industry player tell me that I could do that. I was making enough and I was ok but I didn't know where my potential was. I now do balloon twisting and I want to add garland because I think its beautiful. I hope I can do this to fill my slow season
Awww you’re so welcome! And yesssss, you can always charge more. It doesn’t matter if everyone is charging less…you could be the first ❤️❤️❤️
At $12 a foot which is cheaper than purchasing most of the balloons & you still weren’t making any money? That’s tough since the balloons aren’t that expensive, 48 of the 11” & 17” with some 5” balloons makes a 12ft garland. Most people don’t add in the time it takes, which isn’t much to do 48 balloons, but the back drops, if you own them are easy and quick to transport, unless you’re making custom ones. I’m glad you found out where you needed to improve and are killing it now.
I was making the XL hot cocoa and tea bombs, 4oz - 5oz for $8 to $10 each, which was 1/2 of what they sell for. The cheap ones in the store are $4 & 1oz & you need multiple to even have a 12 oz hot cocoa. I would stay sold out after making 75 for a Ball & placing one at each person’s table.

I don’t know why but I cried so much watching this entire video… I see myself in Amber. We are booking some $400 $700 installs but still not making a profit. I don’t know where we are going wrong.!!!!! But I know we will find a way…. I will have a seat in the table

it's really the same in every business. class or mass. a sole proprietor should always think about it. With the masses, there are always more requirements, employees, vehicles, taxes.
Even with quality work, you should keep an overview of the costs too.

Definitely no matter the size of your business you should know your numbers. That's why I encourage my designers to get with a bookkeeper and a CPA so they are good from the start.

I have a business with my mother and I, we are maybe everywhere in our pricing. But I appreciate all these videos I have not looked for any coaching but I am going to try to get this going. I want to make sure we get this extend. I have charged very different from what my mom does. But this is an amazing information and also help.

Hi, I noticed that everyone says to check your area. But how do you check when no one likes to tell their prices unless you are paying for one?
You have to creative with how you check. But there are companies who will say their prices especially if you ask for a quote
You call and ask about purchasing one for an event and ask how much per foot, per garland, what does it cost to add foils, or whatever it may be.

Why not mini garlands?
Low-price item. I wanted my designers to have high profit and in order to do that, she sold higher-ticket garlands which means she didn’t have to do as many events and still made more money.
Very scary to charge your worth, wish they would know your worth, 👏👏
It is a scary experience, however, it starts with you. You can't expect anyone to know your worth if you don't. Your business always starts with you and then others will fall in line!
Hello I am new to the business and see a great need in my area for affordable event/balloon decorators, even though there are a good deal of event decorators in the area but maybe are outside of the price range. Being that I am new to the business I am willing to charge a little less to hopefully retain a client. Am I wrong for thanking this way
Hey love. I wouldn’t say your wrong for going lower. But really tap into why you think going lower will get you more clients. If you think because you’re a beginner in your niche, that’s not a good enough reason. I hope this helps

It’s more than air, it’s an art. Just like paintings are “just” canvas and paint but you’re buying the art & creativity behind it. I know the price is scary - it’s why I’ve done everything for my girls bday parties (balloons included) but I appreciate & understand WHY the prices are what they are.
