All the main characters seem to be in their own movies and it's the best.
Lucy's living some rom-com with her two troublesome boys.
Sam's in some Monster Squad-style plot where he has to team up with his weird buddies and defend his loved ones against monsters.
And Michael is having a VERY complicated and violent sexual awakening...with monsters.
That's an incredibly accurate analysis! I think that's one of the reasons why I love this movie so much because there's so many different elements to consider and enjoy.

This is why I love a lot of Stranger Things, they follow this type of 'different plot points coming together' format that I love
Meanwhile, Star's living in a full blown gory horror movie with six psychotic monsters who are forcing her into becoming just like them and her only hope of survival is someone who, like her, is being forced to become a monster.
Grandpa is definitely having his own adventure before crashing into his own house to save his daughter & grand children.
David's death always makes me tear up when I rewatch this film. I'm not sure if it's just a projection thing, me reading too much into it, but it feels like his makeup completely changes - like, he suddenly looks way younger in death, as if he's returned to how he was before he was turned, and it kind of hits home that the boys were really just boys changed by a much older man into a 'family'. The poverty of the area, its status as a murder capital, kind of suggests these kids probably didn't have a great life beforehand, and rather than ever escaping properly they just wound up dying because of a much older man who offered them a new life but couldn't ever protect them properly or deliver on anything beyond bringing them together. They go after them because they literally killed the 'baby' of the turned vampires, took one of the family away - so it was less maliciously motivated, more them seeking retribution for the family. Max didn't even care that they died - he immediately moves onto changing the boys and their mother while David is literally lying dead for a second time feet away. You're definitely meant to read into the Lost Boys, Peter Pan connection, about creating your own version of an - admittedly very violent - family, who in some academic's readings literally died and that's why he never grows old. And I think there's a lot that went into the whole production, especially surrounding David as Peter and Michael as Wendy, maybe? I definitely think Max could stand in as a threatening replacement for Hook, and this desire for a family is something Peter both craves and admonishes in equal parts. Anyway, I love this film!
I think lucy is meant to be the wendy since max said his boys needed a mom and thats why he had david turn michael. I guess that makes max the peter pan/hook of the group

In The Lost Boys comics, the sax man actually comes in at one point to help kill vampires!! Also, lots of the flying shots were made by filming on a zip line and reversing the footage!! 🥰💛 So happy you guys covered this movie!

Being a super horror fan who's also really nerdy and dresses in a very "normie" style, while being into really subversive parts of the genre, I totally get the feeling of people stopping and giving me the "You're in the wrong place?" look when walking into certain spaces. That's a thing for a tiktoker I really like, back in the early 2010s she was going to lots of punk shows dressed like a barbie basically, because she thought that was the most subversive thing she could do, and accidentally made people in the space feel unsafe because they though she was just some normie trying to invade the punk space

Tim Capello is a legend. He's such a nice guy and regularly performs on synthwave tracks like Dark All Day by Gunship. Regarding Michael being pulled out the window, I always thought it was him coming into his powers and not having full control of the flight that the other vampires have.
Dark All Day is so good.
Someone recommended Dark All Day on a different CZcams video one time and I ended up checking out all the Gunship stuff anf loving it! But yeah, Tim Capello is awesome and still looks absolutely amazing!

I cannot believe you guys had not seen this until 2018. This is the movie that made me a horror fan. My favorite movie of all time on most days. It brings me right back to being a kid. I know the nostalgia plays a major factor for me but I absolutely love this movie and I am glad you guys finally did it.
If it’s any help, Lost Boys has a second pizzeria ten minutes from their first location called True Romance, which primarily sells by the slice, so that might have been what the server meant. Also, just in case anyone was planning to go, it did burn half down about a month ago.
That actually does possibly inform the way she said that specific sentence (go to "the other" pizza place) so thanks, I didn't know that. Real shame to hear about the fire, the place was awesome overall.

The first third of this movie is so focused on vibes and aesthetic and its done in such a way that it doesn't feel overdone or breaks immersion. I love it so much.
In the Novel, David actually survived and came after Michael and Star again.
The sequels are decent... 2nd Movie focuses on Feldman helping Michael & Sam's cousins, 3rd Movie focuses on Feldman trying to stop a group of Vampires, using their Blood as a new drug at raves.
I met Tim Capello (sexy sax player) over the summer. He was so infectiously positive and nice.
He performed “I Still Believe” at Joe Bob’s Jamboree. It was spiritual.
He was also Tina Turners touring sax player.

Ahhhh! This is a dream come true. My grandma and I used to watch this movie together. We didn’t get along much but bonding over movies was a sure fire way to have us both content. This is bringing back such good memories.

The reason Corey Feldman was doing that tough-guy voice, was because if you think of the era that he was growing up in at the time, people like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kurt Russell, etc, were very big icons in the action genre. So it's possible he was just putting on The tough-guy voice because he was getting into that tough teenager persona. Every scrawny teenager wanted to be kind of a tough guy. He may have also been doing that voice just because it would make his character kind of mimic the toughness of the other frog brother.
This made my morning. I love Lost Boys!❤ Now we gotta get a Cameo from Kiefer Sutherland saying "Your Dead Meat!"

Fun fact, there’s a sequel comic book set after this movie where David is revealed to be alive and the sax guy and grandpa are revealed to be part of a secret society of vampire hunters in Santa Carla, the Sax Guy is oily because he’s covered in holy oils so vampires can’t touch him, he goes by “The Believer” and it’s fuckin awesome
I was a little terrified to watch this podcast ep because I remember you guys saying you didn't like it and this is one of my favorite vampire movies, I'm very glad you've changed pace on it a bit. I was so terrified.

You can bless a pool of water for baptism and if you go by Castlevania rules you can bless the ocean but the area blessed will lessen with the ebb and flow of the tides until it is no longer holy. I think they added the holy watcher to the bathtub of water and had the garlic there to add to the potency just to be sure that the holy water had not been weakened due to diluting it. My friends and I had an interesting thought when we were kids that it was the first time Max had seen himself in a reflection for years and that added to his shock when the lights came back on. With Max it seemed it wanted a family so I am guessed he turned David and then he turned the rest. The sequels are an example of diminishing returns but they do try to give an original take on idea of how a newer generation would treat vampire abilities. St. Elmo's fire is when a glow is scene around a rod-like object during an atmospheric electromagnetic event such as a thunder and it was thought to be a good omen during sailing which it why the phenomena is named after the patron saint of sailors. I find this movie to be an indoctrination film because if you watched it as a kid as you get older you will see it from the point of view of different characters because I find my self doing that as I watch it through the years. Great podcast as always and glad to have y'all back.

I think its such an "of its era" movie, its hard to watch it as an adult for the first time and fully embrace it.
This movie is such a Halloween must watch for me. Its a classic. The song is so hauntingly beautiful I listen to it often.
This film came out when I was 11 years old. It was a watershed film for me. I listened to the soundtrack over and over again, when the VHS came out I watched it over 100 times and I still know every line by heart. David was my first crush, and when I went to summer camp I made everyone call me Star. After this film I went Goth and never looked back. Anyone saying they don't like this movie is seriously LAME.
Kiefer was one of my first celebrity crushes in general, and he was so great in this movie!
Fun fact: when David grabbed Sam's legs and the frog brothers pull Sam i to the light and David's hand sets on fire and a tear runs down his face, this was actually because the contact lenses that kiefer was wearing were so uncomfortable it made him shed tears
I may be wrong, but I always figured that Cory Feldman's voice was a reference to the popularity of Rambo, trying to deepen his voice to be like Stallone. Hence the camo, the headband... I think the brothers were big Rambo fans...
I would love if you guys ever talked about Fright Night! I would say it was the first major movie to modernize vampires in the 80's, 2 years before The Lost Boys

I graduated HS in May, ‘87. I worked in a video store for two years in college. Took this home on VHS one night after its video release and have been hooked since. I went out the next day and bought the soundtrack on cassette!
I watched this movie sooooo many times as a teen. Besides the fact that the male leads are all so hot, I love the storyline and the mix of horror and humor and just general campiness. This is one of the few movies that I can watch over and over and never get sick of it.
It was also one of the very first soundtracks that I ever bought. Cry Little Sister was my favorite!

I adore this movie and several of Joel Schumacher's movies: Phone Booth (one of my favorite movies/ thrillers), Falling Down (very underrated and haunting), Batman Forever (loved it as a kid, have fun with it as an adult), Phantom of the Opera (beautiful), Flatliners (scary at points, but it is about forgiveness, which is unexpected), Veronica Guerin (a tragic biography), The Client, and A Time to Kill (both are solid John Grisham's adaptations).
My favorite 80s vampire movie is Fright Night, but Lost Boys is also pretty great 👍

You have to meet Kiefer! He is like the nicest dude (Being Canadian maybe helps?). I'll try and make this story short: My sister was working a Con that he was at. It was the end of the day and he had no one in line at that point, so she goes over and asks him if he would be willing to call me up and say hello. He said sure right way as his handler was doing hands motions telling him no. It was the coolest two minutes on the phone I've ever had. He didn't have to tell her yes, but he did and even sent me a signed photo of himself as David and the newest music cd of his at the time. I loved him because of this movie as an actor and genuinely adore him as a human being for just being willing to tell a stranger howdy.

Pretty sure Schumacher had the actors for the Frog bros watch films like Rambo so they’re voices are weird because they’re trying to do impressions of him to seem cooler. There are so many things I could tell you about this film I love it so much.
We saw Jason Patric at a horror con in April. He still looks dang good.
I think Grandpa's house was only on location for the exterior shots. It's actually a historical building in Santa Cruz. Some kind of old clubhouse I think. I'm pretty sure the interior shots were sets built for the movie.
Cry Littler Sister, I Still Believe, and Lost in the Shadows were great songs on this soundtrack.
I think they were going to call it Santa Cruz in the movie, but the city asked them (or demanded possibly) that they don't call it that because they were trying to shake the image of Santa Cruz being the "Murder Capital of the World".

My theory for why David didn't have a more explosive death, pun intended, was that Kiefer Sutherland was too pretty to blow up into gore and glitter. 😂 As it is, though, it makes it feel all the more tragic to me that once he's killed, all you see is a dead kid, especially with the child choir playing over the scene. Whether it was intentional or not, it harkens back to the theory about Peter Pan (which influenced the original script!) about Peter and the Lost Boys being the souls of dead children who never get to grow up. Gives me chills every time.
Can't wait to see what you come out with for Phantom stuff! The book is a fave, and I'm SUPER stoked to see you cover the slasher adaptation with Robert Englund!

Idk if anyone said it already. But Feldman was directed to make that voice as the Frog Brother. He was shown Rambo films and told to act as a young Rambo vampire hunter. When he did that voice. The directors said they liked it. And to keep doing it

My Dad told me I went to that Santa Cruz Boardwalk when I went to California for the first time. Now that I’ve seen The Lost Boys I think it’s really cool that I’ve been to the exact location where the movie takes place
I listened to this on Spotify but I just had to comment! I'm so excited for Phantom of the Opera! It's got a crazy history and movies. I don't know what they have planned but I HIGHLY suggest Phantom of the Paradise! It's very wild and has an interesting story of the making of it. I also think they would love the movie in general. I bought it on CZcams so idk where else to watch it.

This film was apparently my favourite film as a child, apparently used to watch it literally everyday lol. I am 25 going on 26 now, re watched it around 2 weeks maybe 3 weeks back and loved every second of it.

Gerard McMahon re-did Cry Little Sister right around the time the first sequel came out. It’s even better. Also worth mentioning is the O’Keefe Music Foundation (if you’ve seen the video of the kids who cover “46&2”) has great covers of both “I Still Believe” and “Cry Little Sister”.
