I loved the little things they did with this movie to emphasise the themes of predators and prey. Naru goes out in her Comanche war paint to track and hunt a predator, unaware that it’s THE predator that she’s hunting. Once she encounters the species that is higher on the food train than her, she is washed down river, washing off her war paint. She’s now the prey, not the hunter. Very cool 😌

My understanding of the director's comment was that this was *this* predator's first hunt on Earth, sort of as a foil to it being Naru's first hunt. Because there is stuff in the lore that hints that the predators do sometimes return to Earth, but this was this specific predator's first time.

Totally agree and I love prey but predator is just so much better the cast was amazing and when each of them died you had a feeling for them especially when Dillon gets his arm blown off but is helpless and has to wait on the predator killing him whilst he still fires. We built a connection to the mercenaries. Billy cutting his chest to challenge the predator in order to buy the others time a female who was perceived at first as though she'd do anything to get them killed becoming a character that was so vital and you love by the end and Arnold's whole creative plan to take down the predator as he also learns it cant see him in the mud and he lures it in to his trap and we get the most iconic ending of all the predator movies with the self destruct. I get the hype behind prey its a great movie great story but the supporting actors are awful apart from her brother as we really don't get any incline to care about the characters the way we do in predator like when Blain dies and mac is distraught but it affects his decision making and he just wants to kill the predator any way possible and we get behind him with the hate he has for the creature but then mac dies and we feel for him although we knew it was coming and then poncho being carried by Arnold and anna but then he gets killed when we were hoping he'd live after the amount of damage he'd suffered that was non gory. The one thing I will say I love about prey is the idealism of the technology but I hate the predators face and think they may have fucked up with the overall design of the predator id of preferred if they kept to the original design or went with one of the various designs that we see in the movie predators which was another movie that I preferred to prey and I feel it gets a lot of unnecessary hate. Prey was great it is the first time that the predator has traveled to earth in live action so far. There will be more set before this 100% as predators is cannon and there's a lot of easter eggs there that are very suggestive to what we've just received and could be in for. I just hope they take their time as this movie is definitely in the top 3 of the franchise my ranking is now predator predators and prey. Predator 2 is more of nostalgia and not the greatest of films and the predator was awful AVP 1 was interesting but again was more of a nostalgia trip and requiem well the less said about that the better. Prey is great they utilise this new but similar feeling setting with a great lead role and the growth of both the lead character and the predator in this film is great to see

This is how you do a proper reboot of a long running franchise. It's a similar concept, but executed in a very different way. And I like that this is so different from the other movies. The other Predator movies have a lot of over the top elements to them and Prey is so much more grounded in its characters and tone. It never crosses that line into goofy popcorn movie.

Honestly I don’t think this falls into the “woke” culture. The movie doesn’t make Naru a Mary Sue nor does it make her a character tht doesn’t make mistakes. It’s annoying when movies make a woman a character tht is simply just better then everyone else at everything. Naru fails multiple times but learns from those failures and uses what she is better at. She doesn’t beat the predator bc she is a better warrior (it’s shown the brother is a better warrior but he still lost), she is a better hunter thn the others so that’s y she won.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this film. I told a friend that Prey gets a lot of undeserved hate. His response was that it gets a lot of undeserved praise. I really enjoyed it though. I even liked it more than the original. The reason is because the original was a cheesy 80s action flick. Which is fine, but it's not necessarily my favorite kind of film. I prefer this style of film. Plus, with Arnold being the star, you absolutely expect him to kick the Predator's ass. His character doesn't really grow. Whereas, Midthunder's character DID grow and overcame insurmountable odds.

Prey has exceeded my expectations. This isn't just better than the 2018 film but it's also the best Predator film on par with the original. Of course the original is still the number 1 masterpiece of this franchise but Prey comes very close. I wish they released this in theaters. I don't understand why they put it on streaming. It would have been MUCH better as a theater experience. Predator 2 and Predators are also decent films, Predators holds a special place in my heart because it's the movie that introduced me to this franchise. The Predator 2018 is the only solo Predator film that sucked.

It was pretty good and actually trying to do something different which is the important thing, it was refreshing to see the Predator in a new environment. I didn't feel it was preachy, it was situating the Predator in a new environment, imagine putting the Predator in Feudal Japan, Aztec Mexico or Genghis Khan's Mongolia. The possibilities really are endless and they can definitely find new and unique environments to put the Predator in. It's certainly more interesting and can develop new unique stories in the franchise, rather than retreading the soldiers vs predator trope, which we have seen many times now. Unsure, which sequel I prefer; Predator 2 is so zany and bonkers, with a great cast; Glover, Busey and Paxton, I will always have a soft spot for it. Only small complaint is the verrrry CG predator, I think this will hurt the movies watchability in the long run.

one of my personal signs that a horror movie did it's job and told a damn good story is when it makes me cry b/c i'm just that damn amazed and overjoyed by it. this was one of those movies for me and why representation matters so so SO much. i'm in the same position as joey; i'm not comanche but i am native, and this film is absolutely a win for native communities everywhere. naru's victory cry hit my soul like nothing else and seeing her finally receive the war chief's staff ruined me in the best way; joey is 100% right: this Should be the standard.
