Olympic Coast Washington - Ruby Beach - Virtual Run/Walk For Treadmill

  • It is a beautiful summer Saturday afternoon and Washington is experiencing it's warmest weekend in history. Enjoy a run along the wild and scenic Olympic coast of Washington State in Olympic National Park. Ruby Beach is well known as one of the most scenic wild beaches in the Northwest. Start south of the parking lot and run towards and past Abby Island. You'll run over rocks, sand, and past rocky sea stacks, tidepools, and the steam rising off the sand.
I do apologize that about 38 minutes in, I made the mistake of stepping into some deeper water trying to go around a rock and the camera got splashed. I hate that I didn't know there was a water drop on the camera lens. If it annoys you too much, you can stop the run there. But you can keep going to see the steam coming off the sand as you finish strong. I'm sorry - I wish I could re-do it but I live too far away!
This run video can be used in many ways but it is designed particularly for use on a treadmill with TV on the wall as close as possible to the treadmill and a size that gives the runner the feel that they are running through the scenery on the treadmill. As always, be careful to be sure to continue to run straight on the treadmill. Occasionally runners who are absorbed by the scenery can turn with the scenery on a virtual run and could accidentally step off the treadmill. Please use the video with care.

It is gorgeous! It’s beautiful even when it’s cloudy and foggy. But I was blessed to capture this spectacular and warm day! This was recorded on the warmest day in Washington state history! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

Love the scenery, I have not been to Ruby beach in 57 years. Used to go up there to have family fun on the beach. I think I will take a Knapp now running with you wore me out!

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! It is my favorite of all of my virtual runs so far. It was a perfect day. Unfortunately I do not live close to this location so I don’t know if I will be able to add more content from there. But check out my Kalaloch Beach run for another Olympic Coast run. Thank you for running with me!

Thank you making this virtual video on the beach. I absolutely love that you run right in the water and I love the water splashing up. I also love that you do not use background music and instead leave just the natural wave sounds. Keep making more videos. Have you made any beach runs in Hawaii or another Caribbean location? I play just the sound of your video when I go to bed and relax and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Thank you.

I’m glad you like it so much! If you like the sound of the natural waves you are in for a treat! In 8 hours I am releasing a sunrise video that is not a run. It is just the natural sounds and sights of a sunrise on a Florida beach! Thank you for the feedback. It helps to know what people enjoy as I make more videos. No plans to travel to Hawaii or the Caribbean soon but I will have a few more beach runs soon! Thanks for watching!

It’s quite remote but a wonderful and wild place to run, especially as you run to the north and get away from people. Glad you enjoyed it!

Wonderful video! Definitely a new favorite! Curious, since you're in and out of the water, what type of footwear did you use, if any? Thanks for sharing!

I did wear retired Brooks Ravenna running shoes that I didn’t mind getting wet. At low tide this part of the coast will have stretches of both rock pebbles and sand so it is good to be prepared for both. My other Olympic coast run (Kalaloch) I was barefoot, which was a little bit of an issue because the tide was coming in. In a couple of spots I had to try to take a mental picture of where the rocks were as the waves came in so as to not step on any of them once underwater. But running barefoot on the beach is the best!
On my beach runs I do like to have a variety of being in and near the water and also up away from the water. I hope it makes a video more engaging.
      Thanks for running with me!

Sorry. This is a great video if you use a stationary bike or desk bike with a big screen in front. Will look at more of your runs. Love the west coast shorelines.

So beautiful. I've never been to that part of the west coast. How do you keep the camera so still? May I ask what gear and settings you use? Or do you use software to edit out the bounce?

    • @oktwistervirtualruns-walks5855
      @oktwistervirtualruns-walks5855  Před 2 lety +3

Thank you very much! I’m glad you liked it. I use a GoPro Hero 8 and on this run used the handle you can hold it with. Those are found in this package:
      www.amazon.com/GoPro-HERO8-Black-Holiday-Bundle/dp/B07XP44MTV/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=15TZRI5L4M65Y&keywords=go+pro+8&qid=1644765712&sprefix=go+pro+8%2Caps%2C188&sr=8-4#
The GoPro has a stabilizing setting while you are recording and then I used the GoPro Quik app and it has a horizon leveling feature. Finally… I put all the clips into iMovie and also use video stabilization within it which smooths it out even more.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the run! Ruby Beach is a sentimental place to me and it was very important and special for me to record a run there. Unfortunately I live far away from Washington so I won’t be able to record there for some time. But I plan to record more runs in other places soon. Stay tuned!

Ha ha yes! I thought it would be great to finish the run out by the water. That stretch was a little deeper than I expected. The tide was coming in! 😬
