  • No O scale West Train show for 2020, so here's a collection of shots from 2019 featuring Gary Schrader's amazing SP & ATSF model railroad. One featuring steam loco is SP # 3806, AC-9 2-8-8-4, Precision scale, heavily reworked by Gary, hauling a long freight with assistance from SP # 4032 AC-3, another Precision Scale model. Some other great ATSF steamers in the mix too. Hope you enjoy this call back to OS West.

Nice video. Gary's trackwork is great and the weathering on the steam locomotives and freight cars is fantastic. Such a beautiful model railroad. Thank you for recording this and sharing. Mike

I agree, that's a nice one. If I can visit again I'll take some more photos / video.
Too much to see at Gary's.

There's not too much American 2-rail O scale out there. thanks for sharing!

Thanks. Yep, and it appears to be less supported by the manufacturers as time goes by.
It probably will become more of a scratch builders scale.

@RailwayWorld and the quality is testimony of that.
Thanks for posting. I am a huge fan of Gary's work. Slightly disappointed he doesn't post more content of his own.
He has an amazing passion for getting something right.

I honestly wish I could buy that weathered MT-4 he has, I saw it in another video double heading with a daylight painted MT-4. It looks so unbelievably prototypical with the space between the cab and the tender.. That and I need my first 2 rail locomotive lol, I'm an HO convert, well, more of an HO guy adding O scale to his repertoire.

Gary, would you happen to have any spare 2 rail drivers available in 63" & 69" ? I have a Sunset Cab Fwd 3 rail I'd like to convert to 2 rail and a SF 4-8-2 to convert over to 2 rail. Also 2 Pecos River Brass SF 3450 class 4-6-4's in 3 rail to convert over to 2 rail, which would be 73" & 79".

I’d like to expand my current layout with American locos. Currently I’m having British & German trains, o scale 2 rail NEM fine-scale. It’s kind of hard to find US locos, could you please recommend some dealers?

Will someone get out and watch a REAL train - maybe a few of them! The engines have gone through an oil, tar, and dirt bath: the rolling stock is covered in graffiti, dirt, road scum - some damage - these best of the best home railroads are great, but I've never seen a REAL railroad running all brand new rolling stock! Come on people: with the huge, huge commitment of time, people-hours, and financial outlay, it's still a fantasy toy-like goofy railroad! Everything is great, but the engines/power units and rolling stock - are laughable. Seldom do I ever see a brand new perfectly clean rolling stock anything? Maybe time to step up the appearance of ralism.

Gary does alot of prototype work. He did the Key Cab Forward pilot model. Also this is a different time. Before there was alot of graffiti on rolling stock
