- 7 Years since the first episode
- Hype has never died down for me, to finally see the perspective of a strong ''villain'' in a world where almost every side character has MC potential made this anime a top 10 for me.
No power of friendships, no graspings 0.0001% chances of winning and succeeding, victor goes to the most powerful and I think it's interesting to see how that plays out in anime for once.
- Movie has been announced and the studio's that are working on Overlord now are kinda godlike in what they do. (Madhouse)
- Anime only watchers have so much more to look forward too, I'm just stoked beyond belief about this one.
I agree. And for me... the hype hasn't waned. It has only grown stronger with each season. It's so rare to see an anime able to 1 up itself each season even after receiving a strong start.
What about Zaryusu vs the elder lich? The lizardman remembered his friends and suddenly gained more power, even though he was weakened.

Actually it is... The Op shows the details which belong to books volume 10, 11 and 14. This season is going to be only 13 episodes, two episodes is already over and only a part of volume 10 content we watched.

For those wondering, season 4 was rumored but it is now confirmed from this OP that it will cover volumes 10, 11, and 14. (same sort of pattern from previous seasons, 3 volumes per season.) They are skipping 12 and 13 and making a movie from those novels. It is indeed kind of a weird decision, but I'm hopeful to see how they do it. It could turn out to be bad, or very good, just know though that volumes 10+ are extremely good with a large amount of characters getting more screen time than in previous seasons
Thing is, they had originally only announced it to adapt volumes 10 and 11. I would've preferred that personally.
I really hope that this will only be a case like the opening of season 1 that showed stuff from later volumes.

I counted 11 scenes in the OP from Volume 14, versus 5 from Vol.10 and 4 from Vol.11.
So we're getting Vol.14 this season.
I genuinely hope that the movie is going to be a midquel, in the anime timeline, and not MadHouse randomly changing the order of events, since Vol.12 and 13 would have made no sense, if their events had taken place after Vol.14.

It's always the thing with Overlord openings, if you see the previous openings you can also see there are a lot "battle scenes" going on, while in fact it's mostly always one sided massacre.
My favorite is Sebas vs Zero, where the OP makes it looked like they were jumping around and exchanging blows.
I don’t know much about the light novels, but I’m thinking the dude in the floating armor is one of the players from the old game, like Ainz was. They’ve hinted in the show that several other players got trapped in this world too, and Ainz is somehow 200 years late to the show.
If that’s the case, we could finally get a good fight out of this season.
They made the fight between Sebas and Zero longer in the op than the actual show.

Ainz is an antivillain, not a villain.
@@SDayle He's definitely a villain. The vast majority of his actions are nowhere near heroic or even anti-heroic. He, and the denizens of Nazarick definitely commit villainous, sometimes straight up evil, acts.
I think you're confusing the terms villain with antagonist. Ainz is a villainous protagonist, which is why despite some of his more "evil" actions, we still end up rooting for him.
Its very discussionable. Villain or not, depends on the pov. For villagers he was mighty Lord saviour who bring Prosperity. For Kindom - he is devil.
For me - he is realistic neutral. He doing stuff to survive in the world. As we do everyday. He dont do bad things for bad things. He always has reasons.
I was worried that after 3, there's no way they could make another good one, let alone one that would even at least be AS good as the rest, but this one is now my favorite

read the light novels, the anime is basically a very abridged version of the novels. A ton of world building and exposition is cut out of the anime and a lot of things are unclear.

Man. After last season, I find myself worried for anyone fighting Ainz or his minions. Even in that last shot with them lining up to support him, it just reminds me of how much unstoppable power he has at his beck and call.
Apparently some of the Empires soldiers commited suicide after seeing such power
Ainz with preparation and the treasury could likely easily solo anyone in the world. The only reason he even had trouble with Shalltear was because he didn't want to use any World Items against her, for fear of prying eyes.

He would probably be able to do that even withut preparations. The only ones that can beat the guardians are the childrens of the ex players and the PDL. The rest can be taken care with death knights and other monsters. So maybe Ainz would lose a few guardians in the fight (if we consider they can use World Items we can assume some guardians might die), but he could just resurrect them. He is just doing thing slowly to avoid this scenario, but it's just a matter of time.
@@thewhyzer yeah, Ainz is doing the slow conquest but if he equiped every guardian with 2-3 world tier items and devvine level accesorys & sent hundrets of death nights to help each one, he could conqure the world in less than a year.

Even without Ainz, the guardians could destroy the KNOWN world in like a month, but who knows if there are level 1000 World Class Entities out there 10,000 miles away somewhere.

The singer for Myth & Roid for the earlier seasons of Overlord was Mayu Maeshima. She doesn't sing for Myth & Roid anymore and is the one who sings the ED for this new season.
As every season of Overlord, the OP is simply magnificient. For how it flows I'd even consider this my fav of the four, biased cause it's new prob.

I was 14 when it first came out and now 21. I'm not sure why but the second I saw episode 1 I was hooked and still am amazed how a series can keep me interested and entertained for so long.

My favorite shot is the one part where Jircniv is smiling but it's clearly a nervous smile, like he lost all of his cool image from the previous season and is slowly collapsing now that he realizes he has no chance of winning against Ainz.

I love that each season of Overlord their OP works to frame the exact tone, season 1 is chaotic because everything is unknown, they have no idea what world they're in, season 2 has the first building of the Nation of the Sorcerer King and the building of that fight, season 3 is all about manipulation and control with the main cast setting up their world domination. And season 4, things are now accelerating to their ultimate state.
Everything from song choice to the animation is drop dead gorgeous, this season it starts off punchy and then is just the inevitable moving forwards, getting faster and more serious as it goes along.
These series by Madhouse are works of art, and finally they're getting their act together with 3D and making them look and feel better.
I love the op makes them feel even more evil like. I’d absolutely love this season one of my favorites. Ops never disappoints
OxT is an excellent band for many reasons, but a particular one is that they know how to use voice modifiers. OxT's auto-tune isn't a cheap way to sound better; they even sometimes distort it as you would in a meme (0:22) and it sounds fantastic because they get creative with it.

Never knew it would feel so wonderful to know every single character in this opening after reading all the novels. One of the best light novels, especially the last 5 volumes.
Who's the floating knight at the end? From the cast's expressions, it's making me think it's another player from the original guild, but I didn't ever expect to see any of those players.

@@VoltCruelerz in season one and OVERLORD MOVIE 2: SHIKKOKU NO EIYUU, you can see some glimpses of the armor and the weapons, plus later in the anime he is going to have a conversation with Rigrit, a necromancer, and one of the thirteen heroes aswell. It shows the armor set with a dent in the shoulder if I remember correctly, when he engaged in combat against Shalltear.

This is my first time reacting to this song, when I heard this opening I literally jumped out of my chair since I have been listening to a jojos bizarre adventure fan animation for about a year now that had this as the background song, I never knew where it came from then boom here I am finding the origin of it

If there's one thing that disappoints me about the show, it's how blatantly unfair the discrepancy between levels is between someone who is of the new world and those who are of the Ainz and his tomb of Nazarick .
It's the futility that can best be described as pitting a high school sports team against a major league team, and the strongest amongst that high school team is often barely at the level of a college athlete .
The slaughter and overkill is entertaining for awhile, then you start to feel somewhat bad that all these characters usually have no idea just how much of a losing battle that they are fighting.

Believe me I'm down for the wholesale beat down of most of the characters of the new world, I just wish it was a midge closer like they were 60-70 mostly, and a few that approached 80 , that way it's not entirely the one sided beat down that happens because most of the people of the new world don't even approach 50

The vibes of this anime hit different
I saw several anime shows and across the seasons there is always at least one or more opening which i don't like for one reason or another, but for Overlord I love the opening of each season so far. The music is amazing, and the images (that work as a preview of things that you will eventually see on the season) are even better.
Each time i see the final shot of Ainz and the still unknown man floating in mid air gives me chills.

It's actually known who it is. I think it was shown in episode 1 of the second season.
It’s the platinum dragon lord, he’s probably the strongest new world character. But shaltear fully equipped can beat him. So he’s not that big of a threat, since the floor guardians can beat him.
