DC's story about what Khabib said to him before the fight regarding how he didn't want to hurt Justin and make him tap, he'd rather put him to sleep, because his parents were there and he'd said previously he'd never tap...that says just about everything about what kind of man he is. The whole of the MMA industry, and all it's fans will miss this amazing guy but I for one fully respect and understand his reasons for retiring. God bless him.

I think Dana had a word in their ear to "bump up" Justin's "win". The significant strikes data for the 1st round showed Khabib landed more strikes. In the 2nd round he landed much fewer, but then he finished it.

They kept Justin’s wrestling a secret even during the fight.
Just like all his other opponents, you saw it on Gaethje's face the instant Khabib got ahold of him. That "oh s***" deer in the headlights look. Khabib just seems to have not only next level understanding of grappling and leverage but he is apparently incredibly strong on top of it. Something that's always seems to get overlooked is his grip strength. Even with small hands his grip seems like a bear trap. Look at any time he grabs an opponents wrist or ankle. He remains in complete control of that limb and never appears to get it broken. That's impressive.
Justin is a great wrestler but has 0 bjj and that cost him dearly.
Johnson, Dos Anjos, Barboza, McGregor, Poirier and Gaethje. They all were thinking similar after being taken down by Khabib and controlled in ways they have never experienced in the same weight class.

His career is very similar to Andre Ward but to a much more significant degree. Retired young, undefeated and left the fans wanting more.

There is no way Khabib lost Round 1. Had more significant strikes, controlled the octagon, was the aggressor and had the only takedown in the round. Plus a submission attempt. There is no way anyone can legitimately say he lost that round and the judge scorecards should be revised to reflect the facts.
That wouldn't make a difference because he won the fight by submission but had it gone 5 rounds and the decision were up to the judges you never know which way it will go because there has been alot of bad decision by UFC judges lately.

That's why it looked to me like it was a combination of Khabib's stand up being better than expected with the moment. But it also could have just simply been that Khabib's stand up was just that good. Justin just couldn't get started with the pressure Khabib was putting on him. In a lot of ways this looked like the Connor fight. Khabib's stand up is good enough to threaten until he can get you into his world. But his opponents ground game isn't good enough to keep it on the feet.

I think Justin lost the first, but he was landing effectively when he did. Khabib is just Khabib. Justin's strategy wasn't a bad one. I do think that it was effective, but you need consistent space to do that and Khabib won't give you any. No matter what you have to be able to hang with his pressure and grappling and no one was able too. I would love to see how Khabib's leg is doing because Gaethje did bang it up.
