You're right! If the server hasn't registered your boost usage, it will cancel the momentum you would have gotten from it, and it will look like you got your boost back, it's called "Client-Server Mismatch", where the data from the client and the server are not matching, but the server's data gains priority, as to prevent cheating of course :D
