    MY THOUGHTS ON THE CAMPAIGN: Maybe it's the nostalgia. Maybe I'm looking at this with rose tinted glasses gazing into the past. But if I had to rate this campaign (campaign only, not multiplayer) I would give this a 9.5 out of 10. It simply took me back to my childhood, when I would play Medal of Honor and the old WW2 Call of Duty's on my Gamecube. The campaign and mission structure remind me of those games, even though Battlefield 1 is in a different period.
    The game story is the combination of 5 different war stories, from the different theaters in the Great War. They are all unrelated to each other, and have completely different characters. Each story has excellent characters full of personality, something that is extremely rare for a first person shooter. The campaign never gets stale, as it constantly switches the pace and objective. You'll have tank missions, stealth missions, airplane missions etc. The difficulty is perfect on normal. You have to play smart, you can't just run and gun your way through every location. You have to be tactical with your approach. The game really conduces that by giving you binoculars to scope out locations, lures to lead away soldiers, and the ability to spot and mark soldiers. The checkpoints are also more sparse than most games nowadays. Far enough in between that it adds to the challenge, but now so far that it feels frustrating. The shooting mechanics feel as smooth and responsive.
    The cutscenes are absolutely beautiful. Facial animations are excellent during the cutscenes, although sometimes it felt slightly out of sync. There is more advanced weaponry than there actually was in WW1, but not so much that you feel it detracts from the game. The majority of it feels right in the world, like it could have existed in that time period. All in all it took 8 and half hours to beat. My only complaints are minor glitches. Loading times were also long for a 2016 game. The hit registration seemed to be wonky at times. I would have my gun pointed at the heart of someone, and sometimes the shot wouldn't register. The game also crashed/froze twice. Nothing big, but slightly frustrating. It would also be nice if there was a larger narrative that combined everything together, but I understand that that's not what they were going for. I mean, World War 1 is the larger narrative anyway. It especially makes sense with the storytelling of the time. It reminds me of Ernest Hemingway short stories.
    Thanks to EA for the free copy of Battlefield 1. All opinions are my own and do not reflect EA's.

    Anyone else think that there should also be campaign by Austro-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire? Given the war is hell storytelling of Battlefield 1 I think its appropriate to show the horror of WW1 from all sides. Everyone in that war fought on the "right side" and that's the tragedy of humanity.

      P-47 wrong not denying Herman soldiers committed atrocities during WW2 , but he is commenting that he would like to see a perspective of the a central powers soldier probably in the style of all quiet in the western front to reinforce the narrative of this story and the brutality and pointless of the war (and yes during the war people from all sides commuted atrocities)

    One hundred and four years and sixteen days ago, World War I officially began as declared by the Kaiser of Germany. One hundred and four years later, we have the privilege of experiencing one of the most incredible depictions of that war in a fictional medium that allows us to see it in a never-before-seen lens: through the eyes of the soldiers. Thank God that we survived this war, and all the wars that were to follow in the 20th Century. Never forget the fallen. Even one hundred and four years afterwards.

    Epic.
    Simply "Epic".
    A service man myself.
    I have seen and know of service, honor, sacrifice, and death.
    I'm humbled to have served and fought with men (and women) who thought nothing of themselves in time of conflict.
    Their memories cause me to stand a little taller. A little straighter in my spine. To breath deeply. And my eyes to water. As I walk along the wall.
    Or visit Arlington Cemetery.
    There are many.
    So many.
    And " each story" is worth telling.
    I salute you all.

    It's funny that at 1:56:55 what the ottoman soldier said actually echoes through/or from/ western civs. It was west that used the power of endustrialism and machines. Thats why the ottoman empire began to be an easy target in the first place, because it couldn't keep up with the time. It was english dudes that provoke the arabian tribes and stuff. Easy to spot when one reads history and such.

    i felt sad for everyone else who had their ancestors go through hell, and die for their country.
    i think that when i pass people down the street i think that they maybe had an ancestor go to war, and each soldier had their own story, like bishop did.

    they had their stories go down in history, movies and even video games

      @henrychang8156 Před 7 lety +21

      Not accurate at all...absolute insanity. Not sure whether to laugh at how ridiculous it is or cry because of how wrong it treats the Arditi. Germans used Lobster armor similar to that but it DOESN'T STOP BULLETS.

    • @bristianmemequisition
      @bristianmemequisition Před 7 lety +3

    • @VRichardsn
      @VRichardsn Před 7 lety +7

      Completely inaccurate. Most of the game is. But real war, besides terrifying, is also quite boring, so it is understandable, specially given that EA is trying to cater to a very broad public. More realistic FPS experiences exist, but are not everyone´s cup of tea.

    • @snarkknark
      @snarkknark Před 6 lety +3

      Let's just say that this guy ran with a machine gun from the great war, that doesn't happen. In fact (UNPOPULAR OPINION INCOMING) THIS WHOLE GAME IS A FUCKING RAMBO SIMULATOR. You don't just survive by killing the enemy but also by NOT getting shot, this is precisely why so many was killed in the war and ended up in a ONE room apartment with EARTH HEATING
