    The argument "FF hasn't been turned based in 15+ years, so they don’t have to consider their turn based audience" is not so strong point imo. Sorry if I put it strongly, just to emphasize the point
    Let's go back in time to Spring 2023 when this conversation about 16s Accessory rings was going on. How big portion of FF fanbase is playing Sakaguchi era FFs compared to 13, T-0, 15 and SoP? We could include even direct FF spin-off series like Team Asano and Tokyo RPG Factory games who are clearly answering for longing for those og style games from Square. My hypothesis is that even nowadays significant portion of the audience is playing the turn based titles 1-10 over the modern games.

      So wrong because those games dont sell. XV sold mad crazy 13 Sold good. and Remake Part 1 sold good. Type-o was Japan exclusive until its awful port so no one bought it. SoP has a cult following and NieR is starting to sell more than FF.

      @@Metro4466 I think what I was trying to say is, they dont have to consider their turn based audience not being good at action games when designing them. Everyone plays action games. But it came out terribly.

    I hard disagree with the take that hard games are always better than easier games. I am the opposite. I prefer almost always easier games. Nothing is as frustrating than the feeling that you've sank 50 hours to a game and you can't proceed or kill the last boss because it's too hard. I hate really hate it. When I finish the boss I'm not proud, I'm just dissappointed that I had spent so much time on something just to finish the experience.
    I'm usually in for the story and the world and being stuck because the game is hard to navigate or too hard to proceed is more annoying than not being challenged

  • @Metro4466

    I think FF just needs to be more solid standalone titles. Go FF15 and FF16 direction in that sence but more rounded mechanics from 7 Trilogy.
    The problem with 7 Remake is that is too theorycrafty, convoluted and creates more hardcore and passionate cult fanbase which doesn’t allow newcomers to reach the full satisfying experience. Consensus is that you have to play OG FF7, CC and Remake before playing the best game Square has released in 20 years. That’s horrible situation to be in
    Also reduce the amount of meta story elements, they break the immersion in a sense they make me focus on real life instead of the game. Plot ghosts, "the legacy of crystals have shaped our history for long enough"

    • @patriotsfan122480
      @patriotsfan122480 Před měsícem +5

      I think Remake’s biggest problem isn’t that it’s “theorycrafty”, I’ve seen some new players (never played OG, CC, etc) that enjoy that aspect of the trilogy but obviously can’t engage with it in the same way as players who have played the compilation can due to spoilers and such.
      I think it’s biggest problem is it’s been split into multiple games rather then released as one single game with a true beginning-middle-end, which leads into these debates on whether it can be enjoyed by newcomers or not, theorycrafting, etc. Obviously if it had been released in a single game, many of the things all fans love about the trilogy so far would not be what they are, even the combat system that’s in use would likely not be as developed as it is now. However, it also leaves many unanswered questions by the devs who need to use that to try to hook people to come back for each installment. Of course, from rumors on FF9’s remake, we’ll see how that compares to Remake in a certain sense (obviously we don’t know if it was earmarked for an exclusivity deal like 7R, but it may not be apples-to-apples in the sales sense either if it drops multi-plat, and again 7R is a trilogy so 🤷🏻‍♀️). While I enjoy the style of 7R, I do wish they had basically created Remake, created Rebirth and didn’t drop either until part 3 was essentially in development so from Remake to Part 3 there would be a game in the trilogy essentially releasing every year. Remake drops 2020, Rebirth drops 2021, 3 drops 2022-23. Or Remake drops 2025, Rebirth drops 26, 3 drops 27.

      @Metro4466 Před měsícem +2

      @@patriotsfan122480 Or maybe this problem could have been mitigated if they made the game as duology instead. Combine Remake and Rebirth and release the third game asap some time after. Hard to judge since they went with such a huge scope

    • @patriotsfan122480
      @patriotsfan122480 Před měsícem +2

      @@Metro4466 Maybe. I personally think if they had gone the duology route, we wouldn’t have gotten as good a product gameplay-wise either because you could tell they have still been figuring out UE and how to use it and so I think we would have gotten two more linear games and none of the open world aspects we got with Rebirth as its own separate entry. Obviously we’ll never really know, but the truth is they were never going to please everybody anyway and I’m sure they were aware of many of these possible issues when they made their decisions.
      I do think however when it’s all said and done this team would definitely be able to create a great new and full gameplay entry of an FF17 or 18. You could see between games how they’ve grown more comfortable with what they can do with UE as well as new things they’ve tried that they’ll likely polish up in part 3, which is always good to see (outside of figuring out how to fix the Performance mode 😂)

      I don't believe the plot and theorycrafting is a problem with attracting newcomers, if you look at some of the most insanely popular RPGs of all time - from Mass Effect to Deltarune - hey have lived and breathed on theorycrafting. The problem with 7 remake in my view is because there's a lot of fear uncertainty and doubt over what it actually is. Lets just get it out of the way that Square's PR and marketing department is awful, simply awful, and bawically killed NEO TWEWY by inaction (most people don't even know it released) and this negatively affects every square game, but lets just focus on FF7 Remakes specific problems. For starters, its a remake of an old game... in parts. A lot of people after hearing that just decided not to buy it until all the parts were released, not realising they're all basically standalone games in their own right. In addition there's a lot of online controversy over the story changes, which also xreate fear uncertainty and doubt. The naming conventions don't help either, because a person looking at Rebirth might not necessarily know that its part 2 of 7 Remake at a glance. Ps5 exclusivity on top of all of this basically has negatively worked against 7 Remake's popularity completely separate to the inner content of the game itself, which in my opinion is the best Final Fantasy Square Enix has released in 20 years.

    Final Fantasy XVI is disappointing as a Devil May Cry game. I'm uploading a 9 minute FF XV Gameplay video showcasing a point warp anywhere mod and playing that for 9 minutes I had more fun with its action combat as just Noctis than playing as Clive with his Eikon Abilities. While I am not a Pro Devil May Cry player i am a near Pro God of War Norse Player. And I FUCKING KID YOU NOT FF XVI is almost identical to 2018 God of War' combat. it's Eikon Abilities are the same as the Rune Abilities you put on your weapons they are cool down abilities you can switch out on the fly outside of combat or in combat by switching weapons even more in Ragnarok.
    However the difference between the two is when its cooling down in XVI you are stuck with the Square and R1 combo for Attack and Fire. While in God of War 2018 in Ragnarok you got the delayed input combos and you got Rage mode which is expanded even further in Ragnarok Vallaha with Sword of Olympus. On top of that it has RPG Mechanics with the action gameplay with Elemental weaknesses and status effects on both characters. XVI didn't have that.

    Here's an game for you NSP: try Tales of Symphonia!! Great game that should be on steam.
    ... I Have to agree with Metroid4466 that games with steep difficulty curbs really tend to turn me off too!!! I mentioned in one or two of your recent videos that they should Modify the game where you have a "Deity" mode that you avtivate after you start a base OR New Game plus where you can swap with like a Constant Level 80 and your "base" level, unlockable after you reach about level 26, maybe???

    Just thought of another you should play: “Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga”. Probably the most underrated and under appreciated series (it’s just two games) in the Megami Tensei franchise. I loved the gameplay and story (especially in the sequel) 100x more than any Persona game I’ve gotten my hands on. One of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played.

    NSP, question if you got the time: with copyright issues on letting a theme song during gameplay, do they apply if you had music playing in the background? Like if you were just talking to the camera and had a song like "No Promises to Keep" actually just playing in the background from a speaker in the room you do streams in?

    1:05:00 While on the topic of FF16, the lack of challenging content was something I personally loved about the game. I felt like Svarog was a little crazy and some of those eikon battles required quite a bit of button mashing but they hit a good balance with Leviathan. Rising Tides was a superb DLC. The way they did the hard content is something I hope to do more of going forward. It's there, it's in the Arete stone. It's just not in the story.
    The brick walls are there to throw yourself against id you crave them, but they aren't required to see the story. Did you guys like that design choice?

    Hard agree that FFLR-XIII has made the most damage to the franchise. Nobody wanted TRILOGY of 13. If they finished the story and left it with 13-2 it would have left better taste in everybodys mouth. I have strong opinions on this topic and so 13 sucks a loot but LR became somehow even worse on almost all aspects and the fact makes it the worst FF ever released
