I didn't even know you could report people for roping. That's good to know cause I rarely win but it's usually in a situation where I copy their board or play their kill spells on their own bombs so they rope me.
i was today years old when I learned one could report this stuff. I literally thought that reporting feature was for bugs only.
Yeah honestly I think roping should be allowed. There's a timeout system in place for a reason
@ryanodd4149 yeah the reason is for people who dosconnect, or maybe they needed the toilet quickly in a super long match
@@izanagisoh1883 That's why it's important to report them. A series of consistent reports for "Report Conduct > Stalling" with the log file showing quick play and then ropes when the game turns around is what will get action taken.
If Wizards only ever gets a few reports for a given account then they won't do anything.
Show me someone banned for roping. Not going to happen.
Don't know if it's just me, but when I report ropers the case is instantly closed with no action taken on the part of WotC, so I think it's either a bugged ticket system or a placebo action
It's handled on their end. There's simply not going to be any follow up for the person reporting. For various reasons, multiple companies don't give any more details when dealing with the problem folks. AT MOST, they offer a boilerplate "thanks for reporting, we're dealing with it." Otherwise, you simply won't hear anything. But they do follow up.
I report as well
And here I thought salt-roping was a “feature” that Wizards introduced to the game. 😅
Feature? Bug? Largely depends on your perspective. :)
THANK YOU!
You're welcome.
It coulded be worst. Imagine playing mono red everyday 😂😂😂
I have oatmeal for brains and am the slowest player ever, I see that rope all the time ! I hope I don't irk my wit having peers because of it. Thankfully, I can give them the "thinking..."
Nah. People taking their time and thinking is one thing. It's like I said, if the pace is perfectly back and forth and then obvious stops once the other player no longer as the advantage, and even worse if they likely don't have any complication options, and they just let all their timers run....those are the people weren't talking about. If you're just taking longer to take game action, do your thing.
In the last month and a half, maybe two, it has happened to me that when I am taking my time with my play, the system disconnects. and I have to leave Arena and re-enter, sometimes I lose my turn because of it.
Disconnects are a whole different thing. There's generally a pacing and decision point difference where there's a higher liklihood that it's a salt rope than a disconnect.
At least with disconnects there's server side evidence that they should see and would help you not get any penalties against your account.
it fuels me. bonus points if it's red bc rare they leave after losing a shred of advantage.
I use the internet from my phone to run my computer (no need to pay for another internet connection). It times out every few hours or so and needs to be reset causing my game to crash. I have to re-establish connection and reload the game from scratch. This takes 1+ timeouts. This does happen randomly rather than at a specific point in play but has the exact pattern you describe. I play at a good pace and then it stops suddenly. Sometimes I'm able to get back in and finish the game and sometimes not. If I don't have the timeouts built up I get the loss screen when the game loads.
Yes, disconnects happen. That's not the issue. There's a very particular situation/pace when some is winning, "Your Go", being active highlighting things and plotting, etc...
...then you turn the corner and start winning, then everything stops on their end and they use 3-4 timeouts. That's when it's very likely someone is salt roping.
If it happens in the middle of the game with the end in doubt. If there's a strategic moment where they are htinking and then timeouts start being used. Or similar situations, those are more likely timeouts.
@@PowrDragn I totally get what you are saying and agree for the most part. I just know mine have happened at times which make it look exactly as you describe it. Heck I even start getting pissed at myself as I scramble to rush the reconnect/reboot process as I know it has to look horrible to the other person.
If I miss an opportunity to counter a spell, miss an attack, or miss a block, when I get back in I just take the loss and concede for the opponents trouble of having to sit thru my issues.
In my particular case I'm not worried about being falsely reported or having Arena look into it as they will clearly see that when I am able to reconnect that it's a new IP address since the program I use works kinda like a VPN.
To minimize this I usually play unranked unless I plan to proactively reset every two or three games in between ranked matches to prevent a mid game problem. This whole issue comes from me being stubborn and not seeing a need to pay for an internet service when I already have to pay for one with my phone.
Yeah. Didn't know you could report them. 😂
So much easier when in person, people alt+F4 a game. MTGA doesnt make this so clear. Imagine if we included body language into the client.
I don't even want to go down that road. These days, I like as little communication as necessary between me and my opponents in online games.
@@PowrDragn I’m sorry you feel like MTGA should be so isolating. For the people I know through Magic, we play Because it is a social game. We wish to interact.
You are welcome to play however you feel fit. Just know its rather abnormal for EDH and casual players to be so anti-social.
@@dragade101he said online. I mute anyone after 3 rounds of “Your go”. I am not a slow player.
@@PowrDragn bro, I hear that 100%. Some of the saltiest people play MTGA I feel, its nothing like the tabletop interactions at a lgs where that kind of behavior is discouraged & often ridiculed.
Screens bring the worst outta some people, kinda glad Arena doesnt have comms aside from emotes (i laugh at the spammers myself)
I see what youre saying, but it'd be worse than the prox chats on CoD.....some of the saltiest people I've ever played the game against are the opps ive run into on MTGA.
I am probably one of the few who plays on mobile. I have so many connection issues. Is there an easy way to report this on the phone?
From wha tI can tell, it's the same steps as in the video. Gear Icon>report a bug > contact support, then follow the instructions and drop down menu. You'll probably want to hit the "capture log" button before hitting contact support so you have a game log to attach to the file when you report the player.
I had no idea this was a reportable offence, can you also report for people who spam you with emotes and bm like your turn your turn etc..
There's definitely nothing stopping you from reporting it.
I just turn emotes off so I don't have to deal with someone spamming them because their salty. There's something about raging on their end and you don't even know it's happening 🤣🤣😂
@PowrDragn yes lemme rephrase, will they do anything about it if I report it 🤣
@InquiringMindscrew i go one step further. I mute my opponent at the start, just every now and then I forget and it's always when it's a toxic player 😄 and I agree it's funny the thought of them baby raging and no-one even seeing it but them
I wouldn't report for roping. Enjoy the tears of your enemies lol
That's always an option as well.
Thank you for this!
You're welcome.
I did not know, This happends a lot to me.
Is it really roping if your opponent rage quits arena and moves on to something else? Most of the time they aren’t trying to piss us off , they just rage quit without conceding so it ends up roping you. But I don’t think the intention is there.
The easiest way to quit is to hit concede and move to the next game. So I still have no issue with folks reporting. If nothing else, they get dinged enough and they'll quit doing it.
@@PowrDragn I feel you 100%, but I think it is common what I said. I know I’m guilty of it all the time. Rather than going through and conceding, I just exit the client entirely. I do think that if someone exits the client straight from a game, it should be an auto concede rather than roping the opponent.
@theflood24
Right, and it's the wrong thing to do. Maybe people will start to take those extra steps when "rage quiting" now, and just concede. Just because some people are "accidentally" doing it out of rage, doesn't mean that everyone else should have to pay for it.
@@theflood24 if two people punch me and one did it for noble reasons but the other for ulterior reasons, I'm not going to know the difference. all I know is that I got punched twice. Which is why you might think there is a difference between the two but there really isn't and you should do better. I have been playing nearly daily for a year and despite getting frustrated as all hell, I have never done this. If I can control myself, so can you
@@MellonVegan wether or not we should or shouldn’t rope isn’t the point I’m trying to make. I’m pointing out that when people do it, it’s not because they are trying to upset you, it’s because they just rage quit and close the client. It seems everyone thinks that the opponent just sits there and laughs while they rope out. Truth is, they likely aren’t there at all. I will tell you, if my opponent gets a super lucky top deck or decides to taunt me, I’ll close the app and make them sit there for the win. It’s all part of the game. I’ve been playing for several years and never have I gotten upset for someone roping me. If I can control myself, so can you.
Except like about 60 percent its casue their game crashed for me
When there's a normal game pace that's broken down in the middle of the game, it's likely the game crashing. When it happens all of sudden as you're about to win and it was perfectly up until then, I'm willing to lean more toward salt ropes.
The fact your making a video about the roping, sounds like your crying on the inside.
- Philly Philly 🦅🦅
For the record, I just report and move on. I made this one specifically, because a bunch of people had no idea you could even report or now to. But you interpret that how you want boo boo.
Nobody's crying, we just don't like our time being wasted by sore losers. When I'm in an unwinnable board state, I concede and move on.
Found the roper!
@@PowrDragn
I mostly rope or stall for decks containing cancer; for instance cancer like discard and sacrifice. Regardless of whether I can beat it or not, I am not playing that crap. I am going to make you pay with your time for you choosing to waste my time with your cancer. Like Treats Like.
I had a turn like this. And my salt roped me, at least until I realised it was ME that was disconnected 🫣
That's always unfortuante when that happens.
