What are key parts of your daily routine?
Reading ALOT
Getting out of bed with a good attitude is my key to having a successful day. Then working out to clear my head followed by coffee.
@@borntobeDewild sounds good. But I would personally replace coffee though..
Writing in my journal and playing guitar. Without these two things a day I feel kinda empty.
What if today is my last day?
Learn as if you were to live forever.Live as if today is your last.
I think Stoics don’t talk about joy because it just was and happened but didn’t need to be broadcast. I find so much joy as a Stoic everyday but no one would know. It’s personal.
This is really interesting. I was thinking about this a lot recently. And I, for my self, am missing the joy in the stoic literature as well. But they sure must have had their reason for saying that passion is not meant to be "lived out to the outside" - at least thats what Marc Aurel wrote in his journal. But still I don't quite understanf why..?!
Not checking my phone at least one hour after getting up has been a game changer for me. Now I determine how my day goes, not messages from people, news or social media.
I live in a part of Russia with pretty challenging conditions and I couldn't quite handle it before, but because of your web page and ancient Stoic books I feel like I'm now where I need to be. Live is normal now 'cause I changed my habits and mindset thanks to you.
We need stoicism taught in schools to live a better live.
@@imawarrior313 dagastan? Dude there are mostly Muslims, don't go there.
@@imawarrior313 Islam. Avoid it.
@Joker Returns, yes, I do it every morning.
@@imawarrior313, it's very traditionalist and pretty religious country so I personally would prefer not to go there.
But it's up to you.
@@imawarrior313, you're the walking proof that Islam is a bad religion overall, although I didn't say that.
As soon as I wake up, I get on my knees and thank my higher power/conciousness for giving me another day:
"He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has" - Epictetus
Finally, a “day in the life” video that’s actually decent
He works his ass off trying to pass off knowledge and wisdom to you, which let me remind you, he doesn’t have to do, and you’re reaction is minimal praise? A grateful dog is better than an ungrateful man

Ryan write a book about modern day stoics . After reading lives of the stoics there was always the next stoic to carry on the philosophy. What about today's stoics who are they? What are their lives like.
There were pre-order book bonuses that included chapters on three modern stoics :)
@@juliemerrick ty I will look into it.
did u watch the video lmao
You'll never know...because they won't tell you.🙄
I think ms dhoni might be one of them , he has never announced it publically but all the qualities of him can't be just coincidence .look it out if you need so.
Ryan's book "Growth Hacker Marketing" is such a underrated book!
"One day is equal to everyday." = There is only today.
Roman King: "dont tell anyone about this".... 2000 years later...
Ryan: "He gets caught riding a wooden horse..."
I didn't know how to live until I almost died. Now, every day is a gift I could have lost. Every day is a new opportunity. Your videos have confirmed and enhanced lessons I learned when sepsis could have ended everthing for me. I have an ugly scar on my leg, but I still have that leg, I still have my life, my family, my time today. And each day I work towards giving my children and grandchildren the opportunities I didn't have. I want them to learn about Stocism, because it is the key to living a resilient life. Whether they take on its philosophy is up to them.
Genuinely, this is the best daily stoic video ever! Thank you Ryan!
Your videos don't usually awe-struck me. But for this one, I'm genuinely sure this one altered the course of my life to a decent degree.
I saved this one my phone because of how useful this was!
This is great and helpful for someone who could use some more structure and planning in their day. But what about unloading and loading the dishwasher? Picking up your kids' toys and messes? All the little things that take up time. Planning dinner, going grocery shopping, making dinner, feeding the kids, cleaning the kitchen before and after people eat, which includes snack time? Driving your kids to activities? Picking them up from school? That's a much more realistic day for most people, especially if you are a woman and a mom. I wonder if your wife is behind the scenes doing all of that. If I didn't have to do all of those chores that I just listed, I'd totally be writing books, reading and frolicking in the ocean waves!
I'm surprised you don't go back and reread your journals. I've found that going back and re-reading them helps me see what patterns I've grown out of and what I still need to work on. Was I focused on the right things? Were my anxieties justified? What did I intend to work on? Did it matter? I do this every year now, and its been immensely helpful.
My grandparents lived through very tough times financially and the work they did was demanding and brought little reward, so when I’d ask them the question, “What were the best years of your life do you think?” they’d reply, “some best days here and there, and they added up to best weeks, months, and years - the rain the beans need doesn’t get dropped on them in one day”
As a pursuing philosophy major I must say your videos are such a great synthesis of the course material I have learned and applying it to my personal everyday routine. Thank you for continuing to demonstrate stoicism in action
There an element of the samurai to the stoic thinking, that fatalistic thinking where the Hagakure says your first morning thought should be you could die today, and your last thought at night should be you could die tomorrow. Appreciate what you have now. Do your utmost now, whatever that looks like (for the samurai it was service to their master). I know I am guilty of forgetting this, letting life just float past sometimes, and videos like this remind me I ought to be better at paying close attention. Especially to the kids, they're already growing so fast and soon will be gone off to their own lives. For me, it'll take discipline, and the removal of many distractions. But every day can be a bit better and creating the small things to appreciate is a start. I am going to go back through this video and make notes of all the points. Thanks for this, and thanks for all you do, Ryan.
I went through almost 2 years of long Covid before finding this channel 🤦♂️💫
When I think about a day at a time that really requires me to put it into perspective, I think of the following ― Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. This video's fantastic. Thanks for putting a practical lens on modern day stoicism. I recently analysed stoicism through the lens of Bruce Wayne / Batman, as I thought it would be an entertaining yet educational way to bring stoicism to life.
Batman is so underrated
Love the Robert Louis Stevenson quote there - one of my new favourites!
wake, walk, exercise, journal, read, meditate, chess, guitar, cold shower, work (disability carer), give cheerfulness to everyone, eat OMAD at 5pm, sleep.
Good routine!!!
Amazing routine. Any tips on how you manage to do ? I have not be able to get myself to exercise.
@@deepikavijakumar9553 choose a type of exercise that you actually enjoy. If it is biking or lifting weights or playing a sport. Do not limit yourself. And start slowly and build your way up. Enjoy it.
Literally nothing to do with stoicism. Come on man. You are forcing arbitrary rules on yourself for no reason. Why? Just why? Which stoic told you to do this?
Awesome video man - really appreciated seeing a day in the life! Always wondered what your routine was like
Wow this is probably my very favorite video I have seen of yours ( love all your stuff) but this one really moved me !! ❤️ .. love how You see things , love seeing how you spend your day! Also love that you workout in the evenings 💪🏻
What could be more joyous than living your best life. Being conscious of every moment, improving relationships by being present, and contentment in recognising what is in my control and what is not. All this leads to a quiet and peaceful joy. Thank you Ryan Holiday. 🙏
I am a long time listener of your podcast (and I am reading my copy of your latest book). I thank you for all you do. I am even more impressed to see you are a lefty.
Very inspiring truly. Thank you for showing us the way Ryan!
People love to grasp any idealism that'll make them feel superior to others. This guy is a good example of that
One of your best videos Ryan, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Ryan. Your videos have been a lighthouse during some storms. And they have taught me to appreciate and savor the calm waters. Nice to have you, and the stoics, in my life.
All your videos are great....and this may be the best one yet!
Nice! I got rid of all social media , which I have loved! These videos are all I fill my empty spots with. It’s enriching and fulfilling while learning .
Have you deleted apps or do you just choose not to use the phone? Wondering how I should do it.
This was both sobering and beautiful, thanks Ryan!

Many years ago I wrote down what I thought a perfect day would look like. Today, I am living days like that almost every day and they are very similar to yours. Great video.

Oh my God Ryan u probably r z best dad in z world, God bless u n ur family!
This is the way to live! Thanks Ryan
Thank you for the time you taking posting these teachings I was curious however would love to hear your quotes and interpretations..
Great video Ryan. Contrasting how you structure your day against how I structure (or don't structure) mine gives so much insight into where I can improve. I spend so many of my days investing or preparing for some future day that never comes. This mindset shift that your life is made up of days well lived is very insightful. I actually got emotional towards the end of the video when I realized how much I'm letting my kid's lifes slip by without really taking time with them and appreciating each day with them.
Thanks so much for sharing
Stoicism is my daily oxygen 🙏🏿🙌🏿

Thanks a lot. Amazing video, amazing editing. Huge love to your family.
I see how you live your principles Ryan, so very well done.
I have read your books ego is the enemy, the obstacle is the way, stillness is the key, and am currently on the lives of the stoics. For the wisdom in these books you have made engaging and relatable, very well done.
Thank you! Love this! I am sharing it with all the people I love!🌻😎
Loving this stuff . Real positive stuff
Loved this and took some good things from it. Whilst this is great, there is a reality and what's the right balance to achieve this whilst doing the other things in life that bring you joy...
Love this!
Another awesome video, thank you!!
I'm so happy to have found your channel. I didn't know this was you and your channel.
I've been wanting to buy the daily Stoic, stillness is the key, Lives of the Stoics, ego is my enemy. All of them are in my cart, just waiting for a good sale on Amazon.
And this book "Lives of the Stoics: The Art of Living from Zeno to Marcus Aurelius", it simply resonated with me, I even saw the book in bookshop, I stood there in the aisle reading for about good 10 minutes, it just kept me hooked, I randomly read, what really caught my interest was the lines where you explained about how the stoics used to walk for miles or something, I vaguely recall this.
I wanted to buy but left it only for the sake of price. But I'm definitely going to buy them this time.
Your videos carry such strong vibes that it immediately freshens up our minds!
Thank you, Sir!

Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family. Stay blessed! 💐

A few points/counter-arguments:
Why should one base one's life on good days? Do the bad days teach us nothing?
"I don't want random social media alerts to determine whether I'm going to be happy, or upset, or angry or distracted." -
Is it the event or circumstance that determines our emotions, or how we choose to react to the event or circumstance?
Regardless, I feel that these two questions are worth contemplating. You are clearly, at this present moment, much further along the path of life than I am. Thus, I believe I have a lot to learn from a person like you. But one must not forget that no man is omniscient. We always learn.
Please keep these two questions in your mind until you can, with certainty, provide yourself with an accurate answer. It could be beneficial.
Great observation and questions. I have not watched this video yet. But I am on the path of self mastery through self discovery and stumbled upon your post.
The Universal Laws are something you may want to look in to and learn if you so choose. The Law of Polarity, Law of cause and effect and law attraction. Where as if you apply these laws to thought and are conscious of them at the time of a certain thought or feeling (emotion) is when it will become apparent to you, that you create your reality.
"It not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters"
You cannot have one with out the other. You need to experience "bad" days in order to feel the emotion of the "good". Otherwise you would never "know" the difference.
Looking at ones thoughts as an observer and learning that you do in fact control your thoughts will determine the emotion/vibration that the law will bring forth, by your choice and how choose to react to it.
Reacting from ego will bring the opposite of the desired out come. Which will cause negative vibrations being sent out from you to the other person who is resonating with your vibration from thought. Or vice versa. If you react to a negative person with a negative reaction, then you bring forth the same to you by reacting negatively. The result manifests as "having a bad day".
Darkness is defined as the absence of light. Therefore one match can light up a room.
Not reacting and remaining heart centered in the midst of chaos is hard and requires practice and patience. I am still very much working on this. It is the path of becoming a master of self. Therefore you resonate at a higher vibration in every day life. Where as you are no longer caught up in the lower 3rd dimensional ego materialistic, mind control system the population finds themselves in, which explains the division and turmoil plaguing the mass collective consciousness.
You cannot serve God and mammon (self).
@@paramedivmso4 In regards to Universal Laws, I am familiar with only the law of attraction. I will learn about the other laws, now that I am aware of them. Relating to your mention of the "mind control system that the population finds themselves in", I think that I understand what you are referencing, with a large part of that being media, such as news broadcasters, for example. I agree that it is an issue that people are forming inaccurate opinions and beliefs based only on the information that is provided to them through media and advertisements. The most effective solution that I could think of is educating people in terms of fact, fiction, logical fallacies, effective thinking, etc. Although, that is a problem in and of itself.
