  • The game is This or That? No gray areas, no "it depends". Matt and David go back and forth on shoes, training, and more. They pit the soon-to-be-released Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 against a bevvy of competitors' shoes like the Boston 12 and Mach X. They debate easy runs vs. long runs, stretching post-run or not, running in the rain vs. running in the cold, and even more. Have a debate you'd like to hear? 33yo male. Marathons in 2 weeks and speed 4 will be my race day shoe. I planned for endo pro 3 but about 3 weeks ago my Achilles popped and I want a shoe I can get good speed in but not overly working my calf/achilles. Thanks for making me feel good about my choice in this video. Love the podcast

    I live in Savannah and during the summer it rains very frequently. So I wear my running clothes all day and just start out as soon as it comes.

    Cold and sunny 35-45 degrees, no to light wind. 60 degrees and light rain is nice too

    IMO pancakes or waffles is basically a push. Once you coat either in loads of syrup & strawberries, they have the EXACT same flavor profile... namely maple syrup. The only diff is texture. If I'm in the mood for crunch? Waffles. Otherwise it's pancakes. The better question is Pancakes/Waffles or Lox & Bagels? No contest... bagels w/ a huge schmear of apple butter cream cheese. As for cold or rain? Cold.

    Definitely have a different definition of cold in the midwest. Unless it is mid/upper 30s rain, I'll take the rain over single digits.

    I tried on the Hoka Mach X at a Hoka store. I was shocked how soft and bouncy it was. I didn't want to take them off. Maybe I'd notice it's stiffness if I ran in it.

    With regards to the stability tech discussion: How do you view a more "typical" mid-foot shank or stabilizing system in this context? I'm thinking about, say, the Asics "Trusstic" system, Mizzuno "Wave" plates... It seems like running shoes have moved away from these kind of "Classic" motion stabilizing systems.

    Just hope Asics don’t make too many changes to the Superblast in the 2nd version to change it from what it is which is a super long run Trainer

    On another note think I might pick the Topo Cyclone 2 although bit concerned at the price here in the uk if it only lasts around 200-300 miles. I have the Tauki Sen 8 and might just stick to them instead, I know you all loved the Cyclone 2’s last year and would appreciate your thoughts with it against the Sen 8’s £80 on sale here Cyclone 2’s still about £140

    Do you plan to do a video on the endorphin pro 4? I am planning on using it for a marathon where I'm aiming for sub 4, it feels very comfy but doesn't feel that fast if I'm honest. Any other alternatives you'd think of if not using that shoe?

    Kelvin Kiptum died a few days ago, right? Sounded like you were speaking of him as if he was still training/racing. Kind of surprising none of the shoe reviewers have mentioned his passing, or maybe I just missed it?

      @DoctorsofRunning  Před 4 měsíci +7

      We recorded this before his passing. Most reviewers including us have shared condolences on social media. We are all deeply saddened about his passing.

    no fan of guide rails, causes friction on arches. posts could be better engineered, still very basic tech used by brands.
