Yeah bro everyone is going to just start jumping highways. This guys was an awesome skier and people jump roads all the time. The snow was probably sticky causing him to lose too much speed.

If you've lived in a ski town you've met a kid like this. Someone with poor decision making skills where you see what the "think" they can do and you know there is little chance this dude lives to be an old man. Curious where exactly this happened as I can't think of any place with a long enough runout before you hit trees.

I don't think this particular incident was like that. Dallas Lebeau was a professional freestyle skier who had competed professionally for several years. He had a lot of experience and he had apparently spent a month planning that jump. It wasn't just a random decision or showing off for friends. I don't know exactly what happened, and I'm not saying what he did was wise, but let's not condemn the guy based on assumptions without knowing the facts.
We used to Gap jump the road up here in Mount Shasta ski park but it's practically one lane. A three-lane with the shoulders that's just insane

People do that on the Beartooth but you’re jumping from the high side to the low side over a couple lanes, much more doable than this location. You have to take physics into account too. You have to know your speed and trajectory on takeoff to even see if it’s mathematically possible to clear that distance. You can tell by how these guys talk they obviously don’t think about that.

40 feet? That's actually a pretty tiny jump! X-games jumps are about 55-70 feet, for reference.
