I managed to get my hands on a CZ457 Varmint after watching this series of videos. The American was my first choice but this is the one that became available. My first trip to the range was amazing. It's a 25 yard indoor facility and I shot off a front bag. After getting sighted in with a Vortex 2-7x32, it was dead on. The first five shots @ 25 yards were touching using CCI standard velocity. Seems to like standard velocity ammo rather than the faster stuff. I tried 6 different ammos. Worst group was .6". I have no way of creating videos and as you said before, "If it's not on video, it don't count"! Can't wait to get the rifle really broken in. I had been just playing around with my squirrel rifle but you helped push me in this direction. Thanks for your time in doing this video. Appreciate your efforts.
I've really been enjoying your ammo testing with the MTR. SK Pistol Match and PM Special have become my go to ammo for 50 yard accuracy in my CZ's and Sako. Great videos. Thanks again.
You are a better man than I am. I would be no where near a range covered in the snow. 🥶 That first group was making my jaw sore from how far open my mouth was as each shot was taken. 😲 I do not know you other than your video and your comments but your attitude is awesome. Your videos are great! Have a CZ 457 Varmint in .22lr and it is a great shooter! The sped up footage of you chipping away at the ice on the bench reminded me of the Benny Hill Show..lol 😆

You have done a truly great job finding the best of the best ammo and look forward to the shoot off to determine which runs best in this rifle. I always like to see the critters on your drive to the range. You have a neat setup. I keep a canvas tarp over my bench, makes it easy to run out and shoot without much setup. Also keeps my butt dry.
I keep some pieces of bubble foil insulation in my vehicle for my bench, One large sheet for the top, two small pieces for the seats. If it’s cold it keeps me warmer, it’s it wet then it keeps me dry.

@@bepropheta6665 my rifle (savage 93 bull) loves the sk pistol match plus. And wolf match extra. I haven't tried the sk flat nose, the upcoming cci standard velocity did notably well. Blazer also did well but it was extremely dirty ammo. Most of the others were nothing special. Apparently my match rifle is very picky.
That is an impressive test bed! I have been slow and as methodical as I can with this series. It frustrates some but I am glad that most of you all enjoy it!
Buffalo, You do a fantastic job on your videos. You are the one that got me on SK standard plus and Pistol match. My CZs love it and so do my Kimber 82s and my Anschutz. I have been selling my bricks of Eley Match which are much more expensive and buying more of the cheaper SK. I would have not known this if not for watching your videos. THANK YOU! Jack

Great timing - I'm actually scheduled to go out to the range on the 24th to test SK Pistol Match Special against Center-X, X-Act, SK Long Range Match, Remington Golden Bullets, & Aguila Super Extra for my test of 17 different ammos in my old 1983 Ruger 10/22. It was supposed to be 18 but I just realized I accidentally used up all of my SK Pistol Match (regular). Fun stuff! I'm excited to see what it can do as I've only shot SK Pistol Match Special through my SW22 Victory up until now.

I got my MTR around your second video, the 22 shortage hasn't hit to bad yet in Canada but iam sure it's coming, was able to order the SK variety packs and all have shot very well through my MTR, my pistol match special wasn't as good as yours, but that's a me issue, I'll be interested to see your results on CCI SV, as I know what mine were, I won't say anything though. First I watch George also and he does a great job. That CZ is really a great rifle. And ole Dan gave me some of that Green tag to shoot. I have never shot it but as you said it's suppose to be the best CCI . This series has been great
Hey Scott! I can't wait to try the CCI SV, I personally would have preferred to test the Green Tag sense it is "supposed" to be more consistent but then again I have been surprised at how some of the lower cost ammo has performed. SK Standard Plus is the current leader and it is the 2nd least expensive ammo tested. Take care out there on your end of the state!

Every time you reload you are moving the cheek weld, shoulder holder, support are etc! I think you would improve your general grouping if you reduced the amount you move. Great video, as always! Thanks for doing this extensive testing. It doesn't really surprise me that SK does so well and I'm ready to fall off my chair if CCI SV does better. The first group had the tightest extreme spread of the 5 groups I think (1124-1115-1127-1129-1112) and I believe there was quite a big variance whenever there was a shot outside the group for the other four attempts (eg last shot last group).
If I'm correct, ammo that is designed for pistols USUALLY means it was loaded in a way that it reaches average .22lr velocities from the shorter barrel of a pistol. That being said, It SHOULD also add a little velocity in a rifle. Right now, I'm using up a box of the most inconsistent Federal Automatch I have ever seen. I recon 85% of them have been subsonic. ...sounds like I'm shooting a paintball gun with the Walkers on. For anyone that is looking for a .22 rifle, I have put about 5,000 rounds through a TC/R22. NOT ONE PROBLEM THAT WASN"T THE AMMO. The only thing that was designed to fit a 10/22 that won't fit (picatinny rail in the way) it is the Archangel kit....that I have to put on EBay now, because I'm a goober.
Remember that storm in middle Georgia. My 4WD Scout services were requested by local LE to shuttle Doctors and Nurses to and from the local hospital. Had a blast doing it.
I am starting to think you might like snow better than rain. One thing about snow if you don’t get too much; it sure makes everything look pretty clean and white until it melts.
I really enjoy watching you do this testing. Thinking about getting a rifle like yours in the Spring. Here's a big idea... How about covering your bench with a small tarp or some plastic? The snow and ice will lift right off. Just a thought. Keep up the testing. You're doing a good job.

Hey thanks for the great comment. The hat came from a company called "EAGLE SIX GEAR". The hats are not made in the USA but the embroidery is put on here by disabled veterans. I am sure they would appreciate your business. It takes about 2 weeks or so from the time you place your order until the hat arrives.... or at least it was for me. George runs a fine channel, he inspires me to do better myself.

I think CZ owes Buffalo a solid after this series is over. You could not ask for a better person behind the trigger no matter their credentials, imo. To be honest, I never thought a relatively inexpensive rifle could produce such amazing accuracy. Especially one that has not been worked on. I can't wait for the final showdown.

That says a lot about you. However, I would not mind it if you had some help in that regard. There are much smaller channels making a small fortune via their platform and it's not like they are selling their souls. It can be done tastefully and without compromise. If anyone deserves to benefit from their work here it's you. I hope the flooding recedes sooner than later. Especially for your lower lying neighbors. Stay safe, brother.
My 457 MTR loves SK PMS also. I found CCI Green Tag is not worth the extra money for it's results. CCI SV is a good base line ammo to compare others to. Inexpensive but pretty reliable. I just got through weighting all my SK and CCI ammo for my spring shooting when the weather breaks here in Michigan. Looking to see if that helps with the fliers. Love this series!
Man, I really like my MTR. I'll be glad when it's a little warmer, the ground firms up some, because the indoor range is getting expensive. $27 an hour in Crestwood Kentucky.
Hello Sir: Great shooting always - very good video. I like the CZ 457 Varmint rifle as well. Do you feel that this gun with a 16" barrel would be less accurate than one with the 20" barrel like the one you have? I value your opinion so will wait for your response. Thanks!
I love your videos, Buffalo. I would like to know how much difference you see in group size between a cold, clean barrel, and a barrel that has been seasoned with 20 or 25 rounds of ammunition. A video would be nice. Start with a clean barrel, and demonstrate how the groups tighten up. Or you could just drop some numbers on us in the comments.

I just purchased the 457 Varmint MTR and was wondering if you have ever had feed issues with ammo that is not done to tolerances like the SK brand or Eley brand? CCI? sub-sonic or minimag.
I noted that you get the best group out of five on the first attempt. The same happened when you tested SK flatnose. Maybe your CZ shoots best with a clean barrel or maybe is the shooter that get worst proceeding with the attempts?
i have watch your video and love them all but have you try SK rifle match their are performing very well in mi cz 452 and 455 also i will like you to give your feeling on CZ 22 lr i recon, those 452 455 and 457 are fabulous rifle i still can understand why some people waist money on guns costing a lot lot lot more and don t shoot as well .many thanks for your super videos keep them going.
Good shootin Buffalo. I know money is tight right now but have you considered building a shelter around your bench? It would definitely keep the snow off and save you from a downpour in the summer. It would also keep your ammo from getting too hot.
Nice Shooting (as usual) - SK PMS put a whooping on the competition. Interesting how this is playing out. Until I saw you do these videos, I basically used the cheapest 22 ammo I could find (it accomplished what I needed, plinking and squirrel hunting). Now you got me wanting to shoot the SK!

Good series! I did tests similar to this in my NRL gun a few years back with no less than 60 different types. Its amazing how different each one is.

The first group had the tightest extreme spread of the 5 groups I think (1124-1115-1127-1129-1112) and I believe there was quite a big variance whenever there was a shot outside the group for the other four attempts (eg last shot last group).

If I'm correct, ammo that is designed for pistols USUALLY means it was loaded in a way that it reaches average .22lr velocities from the shorter barrel of a pistol. That being said, It SHOULD also add a little velocity in a rifle.
Right now, I'm using up a box of the most inconsistent Federal Automatch I have ever seen. I recon 85% of them have been subsonic. ...sounds like I'm shooting a paintball gun with the Walkers on.
For anyone that is looking for a .22 rifle, I have put about 5,000 rounds through a TC/R22. NOT ONE PROBLEM THAT WASN"T THE AMMO. The only thing that was designed to fit a 10/22 that won't fit (picatinny rail in the way) it is the Archangel kit....that I have to put on EBay now, because I'm a goober.
You could put a tarp over that bench before a snow/ice storm.Sure have been enjoying the CZ series,great job.

Remember that storm in middle Georgia. My 4WD Scout services were requested by local LE to shuttle Doctors and Nurses to and from the local hospital. Had a blast doing it.

I really enjoy watching you do this testing. Thinking about getting a rifle like yours in the Spring. Here's a big idea... How about covering your bench with a small tarp or some plastic? The snow and ice will lift right off. Just a thought. Keep up the testing. You're doing a good job.

Hey thanks for the great comment. The hat came from a company called "EAGLE SIX GEAR". The hats are not made in the USA but the embroidery is put on here by disabled veterans. I am sure they would appreciate your business. It takes about 2 weeks or so from the time you place your order until the hat arrives.... or at least it was for me. George runs a fine channel, he inspires me to do better myself.

I think CZ owes Buffalo a solid after this series is over. You could not ask for a better person behind the trigger no matter their credentials, imo. To be honest, I never thought a relatively inexpensive rifle could produce such amazing accuracy. Especially one that has not been worked on. I can't wait for the final showdown.

That says a lot about you. However, I would not mind it if you had some help in that regard. My 457 MTR loves SK PMS also. I found CCI Green Tag is not worth the extra money for it's results. CCI SV is a good base line ammo to compare others to. Inexpensive but pretty reliable. I just got through weighting all my SK and CCI ammo for my spring shooting when the weather breaks here in Michigan. Looking to see if that helps with the fliers. Love this series!

Man, I really like my MTR. I'll be glad when it's a little warmer, the ground firms up some, because the indoor range is getting expensive. $27 an hour in Crestwood Kentucky.

That CCI SV LRN 1070 fps 40 gr shoots fantastic in my Marlin model 60.
I love your videos, Buffalo. I would like to know how much difference you see in group size between a cold, clean barrel, and a barrel that has been seasoned with 20 or 25 rounds of ammunition. A video would be nice. Start with a clean barrel, and demonstrate how the groups tighten up. Or you could just drop some numbers on us in the comments.

I just purchased the 457 Varmint MTR and was wondering if you have ever had feed issues with ammo that is not done to tolerances like the SK brand or Eley brand? CCI? sub-sonic or minimag.
I noted that you get the best group out of five on the first attempt. The same happened when you tested SK flatnose. Maybe your CZ shoots best with a clean barrel or maybe is the shooter that get worst proceeding with the attempts?
i have watch your video and love them all but have you try SK rifle match their are performing very well in mi cz 452 and 455 also i will like you to give your feeling on CZ 22 lr i recon, those 452 455 and 457 are fabulous rifle i still can understand why some people waist money on guns costing a lot lot lot more and don t shoot as well .many thanks for your super videos keep them going.
Good shootin Buffalo. I know money is tight right now but have you considered building a shelter around your bench? It would definitely keep the snow off and save you from a downpour in the summer. It would also keep your ammo from getting too hot.

Nice Shooting (as usual) - SK PMS put a whooping on the competition. Interesting how this is playing out. Until I saw you do these videos, I basically used the cheapest 22 ammo I could find (it accomplished what I needed, plinking and squirrel hunting). Now you got me wanting to shoot the SK!

I got some SK from Midway USA, month ago or so. It just shows up there sometimes. I use Ammoseek.com to find what's in stock "at the moment".
