    As an Autistic ADHD person, my view of the world is a lot like it moving too fast and too slow at the same time, it's extremely frustrating and very overwhelming... I try my best, but I can only handle so much 😔

      I have ADHD and I describe my view of the world similarly, its like speed-walking ahead of everyone but somehow you're always left behind. In elementary school I described it as "Small World" playing at 0.25x speed, 1.5x speed, and 2x speed on loop inside my head. I understand and wish you the best with coping💜

      It's basically just another word for Hugh and low functioning, instead of functioning labels they give people diagnosis on levels 1-3, on how "supposedly Severe" their autism is

    • @amberb.6395
      @amberb.6395 Před 2 lety +23

      @@Bisdis_ it’s not for severity, it’s for how much care/help you need as an autistic person. A level 1 might not need any help or only some therapy. Level 2 will probably need someone to come in and help around the house plus therapy. Level 3 is basically entirely dependent on someone else to function plus some form of therapy.
      Both of my nephews are level 3s for now. They need someone with them at all times to fully function. They also both get therapy with taking and just being kids. They practice with tablets and ASL to talk

  • @Aufeii
    @Aufeii Před 2 lety +52

    For the first one about executive dysfunction
    For me it's kind of the opposite, I have difficulty grasping the size of tasks so that everything just feels massive and something that helps is making them into steps. For example I sometimes can't make breakfast because it's just not possible but
    - going to the freezer
    - opening freezer
    - getting the bread up
    - defrosting the bread
    - going to the fridge
    - getting the butter from the fridge
    - placing the things on the table
    Then getting breakfast works, because all those steps are small and manageable, and if I just focus on each one at a time it's not overwhelming

    I’m almost to 3 weeks without biting my nails! I’ve been biting them since I was very young and I’m almost 18 now, and I just. Decided to stop one day (two sundays ago) and I haven’t caved yet! Very proud of myself, even though it’s small 💛💛💛

      It may re-appear in a different form (of course I don't wish that for you). I used to bite nails as a kid, then I was shamed into stopping that. Soon, some skin-picking began. I think the most important thing is to be able to notice when you start to do anything automatically (tbh I'm struggling with that)

    • @SketchUT
      @SketchUT Před 2 lety +4

      @@katehikes9696 yeah it’s still kinda there as me running my nails along my teeth (similar feeling/motion without actual biting) which I’m working on. I have adhd and anxiety tho so I’m sure I’ll find some other stim to replace it soon enough
      And I have an incentive to keep me from caving even more! My mom said she’d get me a manicure in a few weeks when they’re a bit longer :3

      I stopped biting my nails when I got a job in retail.
      Money is absolutely disgusting, and I didn't want to put that in my mouth, so I stopped. It occasionally came back when my nails were just too long to function, but only after I washed my hands and wasn't at work.
      Then I left that job and while not as bad as when I was a kid, I'm back to having nubs that can no longer scratch itches on 70-90% of my fingers and toes at any given time.

    Can anyone recommend me some good screening tools? My parents are extremely ableist (For example, if you have good grades in school you can’t have ADHD, if you can talk and act your age you can’t possibly have Autism, etc.) I have been suspecting neurodivergence in myself for a while, and need some trusted sources to check, thanks bunches, hope everyone is doing well

      I'd say also trying with tests online works. Not as a diagnostic measure but just to have a vague idea if you're likely to have a condition or not. For example I once was researching how is testing for adhd done and good old Google recommended me a bunch of online tests. I took a few and it said it was very likely I have adhd. Got tested by my therapist back in April around Easter time and yes. It came out positive. Another great thing is to ask your parents to corroborate your life experiences. For example I didn't think some of the things I used to say were part of hyperactivity which can be described in a simple word as "Impulsivity". But after talking to my mom she told me sometimes I bring her into a conversation in a mean way. As in my mom's talking to a friend and I chime in saying she does exactly the same. Or I say somethig about her I think it's funny that she instead finds offensive. This also happened when I was making jokes about my dad's city and how poorly the streets are constructed. And my aunt apparently took it as an insult to her city, while I thought it was just a funny little thing. The moral of the story is, sometimes you might not quite realize what you do or why.
      Also here's a video in which this guy explains really well the symptoms. After hearing him I resonated with the condition a lot more since most people think hyperactivity means literally just that. czcams.com/video/jkDXCGUy8eA/video.html

    I do mma and i was had to learn a new hand drill. And the coaches kid was showing me and i honestly memorised it in about 5 tries, i had tried it once or twice on previous occasions, but still, i was also doing it super fast. He looked at me shocked at how quicklu i had learnt it. Also another time i was doing my drills and every so often i do a cartwheel/roundoff: handstand to refresh my brain and not get me understimulated. And then my mother told me what we were having for dinner, and i absoloutly love the meal we were having so i litterally jumped for joy. Multiple times. And what the kid said? When i was at a dofferent club i ran to get some water and because i showed that i still had a who ton of energy i was forced to do pushups.

It just feels very "I'm an autism mommy, look at what I have to deal with, look at how much I struggle".
