    Thanks Justin, I’m an Architect looking for a new drawing platform and your videos are a great help. This type of Massing model you have created is how most architects start their design, going from the general to more specific.

      I think this method helps you look at your models in a slightly different way. I enjoyed drawing in this style without having to worry about adding details. Thanks for the comment!

    already know all this but just wanted to say big respect for putting out these tutorials. This would have been super helpful back in my undergrad in 2009-2012.

      I've done a bit of that, but am definitely not great at photoshop - it's something I'll have to work on. Thanks for watching!

    is there a way to retain all the details when using custom styles? (like the default photo modeling style)

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před 5 lety

      I don't understand what you're trying to do. Styles don't remove details, just change the way they're displayed...

    Hey Justin, I'm working on a building model with a lot of geometry. Some of the underlying geometry is showing through at certain angles. Without removing interior walls, such as solid tools > outer shell, is there a way to keep the interior geometry from showing through. I have it set to shaded right now.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před 6 lety

      Do your walls have thickness to them at all? You could either hide your internal geometry by right clicking and selecting the hide option, or if your walls don't have any thickness, you could thicken them a bit with the push/pull tool - does that make sense?

    • @DennisMaynard
      @DennisMaynard Před 6 lety

      They do, 1/2 inch. It comes through on some angles and not on others. When I drop it into vray, it cleans up. Mostly in SU.

    Here on CZcams I keep hearing that SketchUp is free. I just downloaded it and it tells me I only have a 30 days trial then it will cost me nearly $700. Not only that but the paid version requires a 64 bit PC which means I will have to buy a new PC also. So what is everyone so excited about? I am just a hobby woodworker who could make use of this program but even my most expensive shop machine didn't cost that much. I can't justify spending this much for my woodworking hobby on something I would use maybe 10 times per year. Where is this FREE version I keep hearing about?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před 7 lety

      Hi Larry - every new SketchUp installation starts off with a free 30 day trial of the pro version. At that point, it should automatically revert to the free Make version of the software, which retains most of the features of the pro version. You won't have access to a few of the tools, like the solid tools, and you won't be able to use LayOut, but other than that, you'll have the free version with most of the same functionality. I can't speak very much to the 64 bit vs 32 bit, other than to say if it's working on your computer with the pro trial, it should be working with the Make version as well. The core software stays the same. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    • @larryb7061
      @larryb7061 Před 7 lety

      Thanks, I will have to wait for the 30 days to end and see what happens. From what I have read so far it said that I will have to remove the make version at the end of the 30 days or pay for the pro version. Maybe I just don't understand what I am reading.
