I just love the way Rhodies talk and the slang so familiar to all of us, it's like sitting next to a fire on a chilly evening.

Hi I worked for ADF as well as a police reservist in Gokwe and Binga a total 5 years. Binga was my favourite and my eldest son was born in Gokwe in Januay 78 really enjoyed the video

Fascinating stories. I remember from my time as a young PO the utter horror of dishonesty that quite rightly permeated the force. I could listen to Mike all day long, ideally with a cold crate of Shumba to discuss.

A bit of an error. At approx 52 minutes in Mike said the terrs went "west" (according to the cook) to the Beatrice road but were tracked to the Muda purchase area, which is east of the Beatrice road. Sorry for being so pedantic but I'm a stickler for accuracy.

      You are correct.
I named the wrong purchase area. Group did go west towards mhondoro ttl

@mikenorton3294 Hallo Mike, Joubert House is still open from what I can gather from a quick Google search, and scheduled for refurbishment/ upgrading as part of Dale's 'Vision 2027'. I grew up in the Eastern Cape (Seymour & Alice) but now in KZN. Keep well, God bless, Harland

Thank you for sharing your life story Mike. The one thing I can pick-up is there were no resting on your laurels. Come to think of the RLI, how was that pace maintained? I was wondering did they ever receive booster drips during the day for hydration and salt intake... The more I listen and learn the more my respect for your fighting force and people climb the ladder of respect. I am so sorry my country let you down but damn they should have made you an extra province.

where did all these great guys go when Rhodesia fell? Sad to think of the diaspora of Rhodesians all over the place. Met a few in New Zealand and assumed most ended up in South Africa or Namibia

25:57 You mention a suicide. When I was in the RHKP I went to an old Chinese woman's similar suicide. She had pushed herself up with her hands & tied the rope around the window burglar bars & "sat" down again, just off the bed. At any time she could have propped herself up with either her hands or her legs. She didn't.

Regarding the Britten Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft said to have been stolen from Mozambique, I think the story is true. In the mid-1980s heard the story from a former air force officer who happened to be my boss at the time.

It was 1976, not 1974/5: 1976 - Field Reservist Paul Elliott CROUCH, PATU, BSAP, KIA. Died aged 25 from a gunshot wound in a vehicle ambush on Dave Chadwick's farm "Manyangau", near Karoi, Op Hurricane. His funeral service took place at Warren Hills Cemetery, Salisbury, on 21 December. See FR Michael Nielsen who was killed in the same incident.
