At like 5 years old, the reason they became my favorite team was the colors and the formidable Chief White Calf on those helmets. I am not Native American and I am so proud of this legacy. "Redskins" is in the dictionary as a slur. It meant "bloody Indian scalps" during a massive genocidal area. Plus, droves of American Indians protested it for longer than 26 years. If they sincerely view it as a slur against their culture, that is enough for change. Not all American Indians take offense to "Redskins", but none of them will get negative impacts from its removal; their culture is larger than a slur!!!! Being named after a tribe would be better than "Redskins". Some examples: Washington Cayuse, Washington Jemez, Washington Pomo, Washington Pueblos.
