    FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.

It will probably be the SAME pandemic, but hopefully to a lesser enough degree that something like Air Venture can be run. MAYBE. Eventually COVID will become a seasonal thing, like other flus, hopefully, or there will be a vaccine (that has to be tweaked every year, most likely).

First canard flight AND landing at OSH with Chatter and not knowing what to expect. A bit like my first solo in the VE which had all the pressure, but not the extras. I have done straight rolls, but the add some rudder is interesting and will try. The air to air was awesome especially the landing! Great Job for a first flight!

So I have always seen the Long Ez and thought that was a little weird. But it is EVEN WEIRDER than I imagined. That said it is a really cool aircraft and I enjoyed learning about it and watching you fly it.

  • @TheGeordietheWitchandtheWench

That was awesome!! What a wonderful aircraft 😊

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Rutan at an air show in Prescott, AZ. Got a nice tour of his aircraft.

Learned something about the LongEZ... Now it makes sense as to why the rudders operate the way the do... They serve double duty operating as speed brakes! Thank you!

Got it, also there is a belly brake for decreasing L/D to get the thing down over objects, as it's practically a low performance sail plane at idle (or off). It shouldn't be left down on the ground, though, as it partially blocks the flow to the intake cooling air duct (not physically, but aero flow wise). The differential nature of the tip draggers also serves as high speed ground steering, like a rudder would normally, since the brakes are at the bottom, as you say..just in a differential pedal mode.

Yep , no flaps, you fly them right down to the runway, hardly any flare. 80kts, coming in hot compared to most 2 seat piston.

@@TD_YT066 No flaps, but there is a belly brake on the bottom of the fuselage, to allow you to increase the descending glide slope, otherwise you'd have a hell of a time getting in anywhere, as the thing glides not too far from a low performance sail plane, even engine off (prop stopped). You do still flare though, but not as much as a normal configured aircraft. You can certainly make ultra smooth landings with an EZ, though, not only, as my instructor used to call them "hemorrhoid checkers", when you plant solidly for various reasons, or just a botched flare.

As a kid I recall at least one, but I think two, of these that would regularly fly around over my hometown in northeast Wyoming. We loved seeing the "backwards planes!" 😄

Awesome content all things considered, After seeing you fly it I began searching for a Rutan EZ for Prepar3d but one doesn't appear to exist, I'll wait for FS2020 to see what ultralights are made for it eventually. Good Video!
