- A successful field operation requires alot of preparation--including testing your gear as if you were using it in the field. This video shows the Wolf River Coil Silver Bullet 1000 antenna, the MFJ 1979 whip, a Tim Ortiz linked dipole and the Yaesu FT-817.

Thanks for another video. Always best to practice like you are going to play! Good advice on testing before you get to the park and are unraveling things in a hurry. Also don’t forget the adapters!!
Chris,
Great seeing you on the air again. Thanks for the video. 73 George KB3WAQ
Thanks! Good to be outside again!
Testing my gear at home is something I need to do more regularly - thanks for the reminder!
Thanks for this excellent video with a summary of everything need it for go outside.
I had problems with my sota beams and how to deploy. I appreciated you shared this idea of antenna stand with PVC.

Yay another K2CJB video!
It certainly took me long enough!
Thanks for sharing! Good info!
thanks Chris fantastic video terrific job 73 from kb2uew
Thanks!
Nice video, Chuck! I would have liked to see you try to get a QSO on the linked dipole. Dipoles are more efficient and more effective QRP antennas in my experience.

True. Last year for Field Day I had both antennas setup along with a random length long wire. Conditions were really tough. The long wire worked the best. I have had great luck with the linked dipole too. This video was just to test the gear and since the last thing I set up was the dipole, I figured if it “heard” ok then it probably would work for transmit. Thanks for watching!
Great video series. Thanks from a new ham! KD9PJN
Yea a new video, btw did the longer legs on wolf river worked out? I got the short one and did I 3D print that stop it from tipping over. Little spike that attach hon the legs so far so good. But still great video
The longer legs seem to make the antenna more stable than the shorter ones. We’ll see how they do on a breezy day. Thanks for watching!
Love your videos, but I have 1 small Beef. With my old hearing, I find the music is to loud and at times drowns out what you are saying. It also drowns out the radio. But that's my only criticism.
Thanks! For some reason the wireless mic didn’t work so my voice was all picked up by my iPhone. I have to see what went wrong.
How high does the antenna mast extend on this particular dipole antenna setup? Thanks great videos
It’s about 20’, maybe a bit lower with how the center is supported.
Hi Chris hope you’re doing well! Are you setting up camp in the backyard for field day this year? I will be in the Virgin Islands later this summer attempting a POTA and IOTA while I’m there. How much RG 8x do you take with you?
that backyard would be ideal for a nice 80m (264 ft) full wave loop!
I may try to do a FD op again in the yard. Probably not an overnight tent op though since our neighborhood has had black bears wandering around. And yes I’m hoping to get 80 and maybe even 160 antennas up! Thanks for checking in! Hope you are well!
@@k2cjbradio modern day field dayers just run the coax through the window and tough it out in the air conditioning - and no bear 🐻
Well done thanks de wb8idy Swansboro nc
Thanks!
Hi Chris, it will be possible to make contact from Buenos Aires Argentina? I'm making my preparation to get my license, in radio club moron , callsign LU1DBQ, we are doing operating practice, supervised by an instructor. Thanks in advance, Sebastian
