    Thanks Chris for the demo. I'd like something that would carry my Yaesu 991A. A heavy bulky radio, but the one I prefer for Field Day. Problem is I'm short and an old lady. Carrying a pelican case is almost too difficult. But I know my radio better protected than the large canvas bag I used 4 years ago where one of the knobs broke off. Wonder if a smaller lighter weight bag like that could be used. Thanks

      It's clamped to the pole since that section is shorted out by the matching slider assembly. Hope that helps!

  • @Kilroy_Was_Here_1897

    Nice setup, I've been looking at camera duffels to do the same thing, they're rougly similar to that. I refuse to use anything military or "tactical" looking, it doesn't look as safe or friendly to the public (and police) as non-military/tactical looking things and I've seen too many veterans have flashbacks from being just vaguely reminded of their service. The Pelican and pelican-style cases that seem to be semi-popular are too inflexible, both from a literal and "down the road" perspective, for me. Hard-sided cases can protect your radio, but they can also give you a good bump if you aren't careful or don't see them until it's too late, and once you pull out the foam, you can't change the layout. The furthest "hike" I may ever do with a radio is from the car to where I'm setting up for a field day. I have no hiking bone in my body, wandering around and then sleeping on the ground is not my idea of a great time. That G106 almost looks like a modern stereo component! Like a DAC or something like that. Or an interface from a professional XLR mike to a computer.

    • @k2cjbradio
      @k2cjbradio Před 7 dny

      Agreed on the Pelican style cases. I had one for awhile and quickly outgrew it. Hadn't thought of the G106 looking like a piece of stereo gear, but you're right!! Maybe that was their inspiration? Hahaha

I notice that 146.52 seems to be used both as a calling and working frequency; our calling channel over here is 145.500, but I bet that even if it had been silent all day with you putting out calls and you eventually got a contact, if you carried on chatting and didn't QSY to another simplex channel you'd have some joker pop up and tell you off for having a QSO on the calling channel! There’s a $40 difference between the 207 & 151, but haven’t figured out why. I’ll have to try the 207 vs the 198 & see.
