As a music instructor, this is FASCINATING. How many times can you hear SIDE BY SIDE an older/younger vocalist? From a teaching perspective, this is REALLY interesting. Not to mention beautiful, nostalgic, EVERYTHING. And tears. Many tears. Happy and sad- everything.
Cat Stevens did a similar thing for Father and Son in the 2000 version where he sings the father lines and his younger self sings the son.
I’m a 54 year old biker and this brings a lump to my throat
The harmony of Aled's two voices is phenomenal.
This is still the most gorgeous song ever written, in my opinion. It immediately reduces me to tears. Happy? Sad? Doesn’t matter. It touches the soul. ❤
"happy, sad? doesnt matter, just touchs the soul ❤❤❤ this way
Magnificent song that gives me goose bumps. Makes me feel sad and happy😢😂
My mother loves it!
Mid January 2024 and I'm just seeing this for the first time. My wife, my kids, and I have always loved this song since seeing The Snowman sometime in, probably, the 90's. I'll be sharing this with all of them. Absolutely lovely!
I bet he never thought this would happen when he was 12. Amazing.
,...Aled Jones performs a duet with his younger self...'
What kind of vvitchcraft is it O_O
@@feduaura3141 It's not witchcraft, because the young boy singing isn't Aled, it's Peter Auty who sang the song in the film. Every nuance of the the young boy's performance matches what is heard in the film.
@@ArchangelApollo no it’s not it was Aled when he was child thicko
😂
It’s Aled Jones as a child in this video.
But Peter Auty IS the original voice featured in the film The Snowman. The film producer’s finally acknowledged him a few years ago.
Someone in Aled’s camp was very jammy. Aled release this as a single and Auty wasn’t credited for the film at the time. Aled got famous. Auty says he doesn’t mind.
That’s the mixup!
Aled was 15 when he sung this. His late develoent made him millions.
How beautiful. It's wonderful that that gorgeous soprano developed into such a fabulous mature voice. Doesn't always happen.
EXACLY!!
I agree his voice could ov gone the other way but it turned out alright
Tenor, soprano is the highest female
That gorgeous soprano is Peter Auty's
@@niamh955 when he was a boy he sang soprano.
My husband and I obsessed over Aled's self duet and played it almost daily during the holidays. He passed away suddenly in August, and hearing this rendition once more is like receiving comfort from a dear old friend ❤
May his soul rest in the Peace of Christ✝
Sorry for ya loss, sending hugs 💜
Sorry for your loss Bianca it is a beautiful song 🎵
:( 🌟❤️Beautiful
Not many things make my eyes water these days, but this is one of those rare beautifully stories. May he rest in piece
Lyrics:
We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly
I'm holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you
Far across the world
The villages go by like trees
The rivers and the hills
The forest and the streams
Children gaze open mouth
Taken by surprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes
We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy
Mountains floating by
Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Arousing of a mighty monster from its sleep
We're walking in the air
We're floating in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly
A beautiful Christmas song full of happy memories of a time when life was simpler and the world seemed a safer place.
Amen.
"Walking In The Air"
We're walking in the air,
We're floating in the moonlight sky,
The people far below are sleeping as we fly.
I'm holding very tight,
I'm riding in the midnight blue,
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you.
Far across the world,
The villages go by like dreams,
The rivers and the hills,
The forest and the streams.
Children gaze open mouthed,
Taken by suprise,
Nobody down below believes their eyes.
We're surfing in the air,
We're swimming in the frozen sky,
We're drifting over icy mountains floating by.
Suddenly swooping low,
On an ocean deep,
Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep.
We're walking in the air,
We're dancing in the midnight sky,
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly.
At one point in my life I reached rock bottom. My personal and professional life were blown away right in front of me. I lost everything. Things got better..a lot better, and this song was a part of my recovery process. It might seem silly, but this song brought me peace and comfort. Tonight hearing this version, my heart just melted. Incredible. Thank you Aled for blessing the world with your voice, and your spirit.
Chase 1136 Nature does that for me, and music like this.
❤️
Chase 1136 I am walking through that journey personally and presently. Can you share some encouragement of what got you through?
@@daphnelattimer9952 there are many of us. Its a bad time. It helps to go back to basics and recognise what is really important in life.
Try to stay positive even when you feel resentful sad and bitter.
The power of music. Of song. Of the human voice.
Beautiful. To me this song is about Jesus.
Love this version. But hope people remember the original song from the movie was sung by Peter Auty
This is absolutely beautiful. This song and "The Snowman" always leaves me sobbing. I can't really explain it, it just does something to me. This is going into my favourites ❤
Anyone here in 2020? Here during Christmas 2020, Beautiful song 😢
Can't believe they invented time travel so they could create this masterpiece.
Absolutely phenomenal, the harmonies and the contrast in his voice is just bone-chilling. Merry Christmas!
His voice is so crystal clear, marvellous ❤
I believe in the purification of spirit
Whoever had the idea to produce this is a genius!
This version of aled singing with his younger self is AMAZING! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Wow Aled Jones has grown up. He is a man. He'll never be the boy kid again.
How have I managed not to find this until now? I am in tears. I lost my wonderful sister in August and I now imagine us flying hand in hand over the world to all the distant places she wanted to visit. Thank you.
Very sorry for your loss, and I am happy this song brought you some comfort.
Yours are beautiful as you look, thanks for your sincere compliment, I would always give appreciation to my dedicated fans like you🌹🌹🌹🎸🎸🌹🌹
This picture you are painting brought me to tears. You are a wonderful sibling
Bane: what a lovely lovely voice
I had LOVED this song since I saw Snowman in 1986 as a child. 🥹 Thank you for sharing this beautiful duet with the younger and adult self Alan. Wonderful idea! ✨🫶🏻
This gives me that tingly feeling of nostalgia.
Malakai Bayoh brought me to Aled Jones.
The best thing about getting old for a few of us. You get a little bit wiser. You enjoy peacefulness more. Cherish each day more when you open your 👁️👁️. Sometimes your love for 🎶 changes. Beautiful 🎼🇺🇲
This man's voice = childhood memories
Marvellous voice
Same here brings a tear to your eye
sad ones :(
Like a movie
Hes not the original Singer
I keep coming back to watch and listen to this beautiful version. His voice just as sublime now that he's older (and I'll also add how much I've enjoyed watching Aled as a host on "Escape To The Country" from Australia). Such a pleasure to hear him sing this duet with his younger self. ☺
I listen to this beautiful song all year round.
Such harmony such bliss Jesus would have loved this 😍☺😏
👏👏👏
I am speechless. Just. Wow.
Anyone who gives this a "Thumbs Down" has zero class. No, none.
Tone deaf and inhuman springs to mind. It's a work of audible art and deserves some kind of recognition in UK history.
Something which would not of technicly been possible 35+ years ago...
Amazing.
From published Still now remember my childhood memory with great joy, ❤❤❤ 12.05.2024
Even at fifty he sounds great
Jesus this is beautiful!!!
I cried. No lie.

+GalaxyUnicorn Girl I’m Christian but I say it..
+GalaxyUnicorn Girl - Lets be honest here, Jesus would love this.
Aled.. That was awesome! ❄️⛄❄️💜
He has the flawless complexion of a man whose voice teacher told him he could never drink or smoke.
💕 Love the movie The Snowman 💕 Beautiful amazing voice 💕 Nightwish Suomi 💕💕💕
He is beautiful; both then and now !!
For anyone who wants to know this was originally written for a short movie called “the Snowman.” Aled Jones recorded it as a child. Now he is a professional singer and re-singing it to his old record. It’s so beautiful, what memories.
Elise Thompson but the original wasn’t Aled, it was Peter Auty.
Well duh, that's why we're all here reliving our childhood lol. All we need is a David Bowie introduction.
Everyone knew this but thanks clever clogs
The Snowman was one of my Favorite movies as a kid. Christmas or not. Little did i know It wasn't well known in the US and it was a holiday staple in the UK. I felt like a cultured Yank Lol
Great movie
I love this ( and the version with Malakai) so much. This one is especially special though. Aled’s voice is and was - amazing. He must love having that footage of himself as a boy singing this beautiful song. So sweet.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.............Chills
Happy 50th Birthday, Aled Jones!
Omg The Snowman! So hes the voice beautiful ❤❤
Peter Auty was the voice in The Snowman. Aled covered it as a child and had a hit with it.
This piece sounds like paradise.
35.
@Joshua Bicknell I switched from piano to organ 30 years ago and never looked back. The organ beats the piano to a frazzle. I didn't know Forest Green then; I first heard it a few months AFTER I fell in love with the organ. The melody that made me fall in love with the organ was Dix, which is still my second favorite. My favorite professional organist played Dix so beautifully. She played everything beautifully but that particular tune definitely was "the one" back then.
A boy became a man.
Leaving behind the carefree innocence of youth.
The backdrop of childhood, wandering in the wilderness.
The refined sophisticated and complicated days of adulthood.
Deep down, the boy remains, freedom emerges, and the song goes on...
Thanks for this.. I was 5 when I first saw The Snowman.. And now 42.. Glad I can share such a movie with my daughter.. Have a wonderful day all.. '22
Incredibly cute kid he was and what a singer, whew.
@Aled Jones hi no only experience has been the great presentation Carols for Christmas which I have purchased in VHS..CD and then DVD .I wish they would remaster that film as it is a masterpiece with you David Wilcocks that wonderful Choir and the Paintings from our MM of Art.We even visited Bury St.Edmunds to visit the town where it was filmed. We are aging now and getting a little muddled..but this is such a lovely video and song.Thank you for it.: )
I have LOVED this song since 1984. It still breaks my heart every time I hear it.
I like peter auty better
@@user-db8bf1yc6p I think Janett does too! Aled Jones' Version wasn't released until 1985, so for her to love the song in 1984 it must be Peter Auty's version she remembers.
@@user-db8bf1yc6pnunca fue Peter Auti quien cantó ésta canción, siempre fue Aled...averigua bien la historia
I'm at home. And in tears! I am feeling particularly vulnerable in my own feelings.
What a voice he had as a kid, absolutely stunning
This beautiful song takes me back many years to a childhood when, we may not have had many material possessions, but we had everything that counts. Love, nurturing and the reassurance of a loving family unit around us. Idyllic!!!
Dude, people who can make music, especially those who can make it come out of their mouth, are just beings blessed with the closest thing resembling magical powers you could find in this world, I'm so jealous.
Oh Aled! How beautiful!
Wow, he has one of the most beautiful tenor voices. So clear and elegant, but not light and fragile like some counter tenors.
Ohh wow ❤ magical
@@tomcochrane5720 Haven't you got better things to do with your time than pretend to be someone else on the internet
In the late 80's I was obsessed with The Snowman. I would try to pick this song out on the piano. Nearly 30 years later, I could never have imagined this. Teaarrrrs.
Bluestem - I used to play this as a duet in piano lessons when I was a kid
This guy didn't sing in the snowman, he just covered this song years later
The film version was Peter Auty :)
@@MC-vd9bn Indeed. It would have been lovely if they had invited him too.
@@MC-vd9bn but he was never creited for it though as aled Jones did it on top of the pops
Thank you Tarja.
So beautiful. Favorite.
Sheer perfection - what a voice then and now - so very moving - time passes - musicality persists - unique talent and what a lovely guy he is
You are so right!
I remember finding the video of "The Snowman" at our local children's library. I was not familiar with the story, but thought it would be a nice video for my young daughter to watch. I don't recall her age - perhaps four or five. She was contentedly watching it but burst into tears as soon as Aled began singing this song. I had to stop the video. As others have commented - the melody and harmony are beautiful and sad at the same time.
I had the same reaction as a small child to hearing this song! It’s not the words, it’s not the sound, it’s nothing about the superficial aspects of it… there’s something that Aled does that creates space for great wisdom to pass through, a room he creates in this reality for us to experience something truly magical… and even now as an adult I find this overwhelming!
How did your daughter react to the ending of the film?
She didn't watch it again until she was older. I don't recall her having an emotional response to the ending.@@Kemidov
i have always loved this track and the movie is so super sad.
🥰🥰🥰so beautiful...!!!
So beautiful...you made me cry.
The fact that this video has only 777k views whereas complete trash get millions of views, partly explains why the world has come to this point. Phenomenal composition, and stunning performance. Bravi (both young and old)
I agree.. I think this is a masterpiece.
872,000 views now 3 months after your comment. That’s an encouraging increase.
And again, even this comment should have received more likes.
So Beautiful. I had a big loss yesterday....remembering and knowing love ... and then just keeping that love...
Growing up with this i have no words !
A voice as clear as the finest crystal
I suddenly realised it was the 1st of December and that I can start listening to Christmas songs - THIS HAS TO BE FIRST IN LINE!!!
Lol...Same here.
1 day to go this year but I think I deserve a day early
@@javaquickscope7300 I'm just here on 1st Dec xD
Today is the 1st of December exactly 2 years after your comment. I am also here because I can start listening to Christmas songs.

Goosebumps...
Me too...
And awestruck speechlessness, too.

What a beautiful duet. I've adored this song since the first time I heard it on The Snowman. Both Aled Jones and Peter Auty immortalized the music.
Yours are beautiful as you look, thanks for your sincere compliment, I would always give appreciation to my dedicated fans like you🌹🌹🌹🎸🎸🌹🌹
Dear Aled - I have always loved your singing - even love your Escape to the country shows
Wonderful always Wonderful Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
This made me cry, it just shows me how quickly my life will flash before my eyes and how I should treasure it. It also is just amazing to see this! Wow, goosebumps indeed, what an amazing child he was and what an amazing adult role model
Oh memories sweet memories of this song when I was a little kid 👍☘️🇮🇪
If you have memories of the film then it would be of a chap called Peter Auty that sang the film track....not AJ.
He's still got it!!
So beautiful
This is so underrated! A true masterpiece and a phenomenal singer! Unlike the glamorous people of today who only sound ok due to auto tune. This is a true master piece 🥰❤️
ALED JONES has definitely been blessed by a angelic voice 🙏 cheers Stephen 🍀🍀🙏✌️
The knack to flying is learning to miss the ground when you fall - Douglas Adams
One tends to get very nostalgic at this. Everything changes, yet the eternal qualities of music and emotions stay the same.
It's the last day of August 2020. Here in the USA life is so sad, bizzare and rife with anxiety. I have listened to your beautiful voice for years but to see you grown up and hear your self-duet on my son's 38th birthday brightened my day and soothed my soul. Thank you so much for making this video
Yours are beautiful as you look, thanks for your sincere compliment, I would always give appreciation to my dedicated fans like you🌹🌹🌹🎸🎸🌹🌹
Jeeze. Here we are in hindsight realizing it’s all pretty much just downhill from there.
Superb harmonisations - a technical triiumph
This is so touching.
Omg I love it. Is it me or am I the only one who had tears coming down my face 😭😭😭 still emotional
I love song when I 9 year oid
I don't remember exactly what year it was but I remember being gifted with this beautiful film and this beautiful song by my dear late mother one Valentine's day. I was about 5 or 6 and I am now 34. The magic of the Snowman has NEVER left me. This song takes you places. I love you, Mama.
So very beautiful. Thank you.
Reading the comments and heartbroken, bullies are damaged people themselves but that doesn't excuse it. I've supported children and adults all my life so I'm always here if you need me. 💔😘👍
He's developed such a wide range with so much control. Both the upper and lower register sounds comfortable and soft.
This song is so beautiful I cry every time I hear it 😢👏👏👏👏👏 it just instantly brings me back to a simple time I miss when my grandma and grandpa and uncle and to dogs were still alive we all loved this song they all died around Christmas time years apart
There are times I wish I had been older to experience something nostalgic when it was new, rather than as received memory. This is one such time. All the same, it’s still powerful, seeing all the images in my head. The house from above, the cruise ship, the girl staring in wonder and best of all, the school of whales.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you!
i like this bloke.
Yes, seems like a decent sort of fella.
hahabass he is great isn't he? Nice to meet you hahabass

Truly the most magical "duet" of Aled Jones as an adult with his young self... I cannot watch this enough! Pure joy!
Thoroughly and completely wonderful!
I love this version he looks so young as does his 'younger' self :) 10/10
Finally got my claasical obsessed son to appreciate this. Only took 17 years but this score/movie is Christmas to me.
