My mother used to sing this to me when I was a child 78 years ago. Her paternal family was from Scotland and she sang in Gaelic. This rendition brings back such beautiful memories
A beautiful rendition, flowing like water
Came across this song while reading The Skylark's Secret by Fiona Valpy, one of the characters sings a few lines and I just had to find the whole song. Absolutely beautiful, and makes me miss living in the Scottish islands.

This is a reminder of the wonderful award winning Secondary Modern School for Girls choir I belonged to [1956/60] in South Yorkshire.I have not heard this song in decades.It brings joy into my heart.My choir mistress Miss Phillips was responsible for instilling the beauty and love of music into our lives, something my twin sister and I[ 73 years of age] have never forgotten..

I think that I may know where Young Aled was - all those years ago. I think that it's not that far from the Shap Wells Hotel in Cumbria. The stone fountain is in the midpoint of a walk in it's private land. And is the home of Red Squirrels.

Eriskay is a 3 square mile small island in the outer Hebrides to the north west of Scotland where Bonnie Prince Charlie stepped ashore in 1745. Both the Scottish & Irish speak different dialects of a beautiful language called Gaelic, not Japanese. " BHEIR" is pronounved VAIR.
