One of Ringo Starr's 'Beatles' black oyster pearl Ludwig drum kits went up for auction few years back.
Sold for $2.2m.
Which I think is still a world record for a secondhand drum kit.
And now, the debate as to whether drums count as a musical instrument...
The drummer leads the beat for the whole band. Very important musical instrument.
I think I'll stick with my Bundy pro open keyed flute thank you very much. I bought in for a 150 dollars and still sounds great.
An important omission from this list is the Huberman Stradivari violin purchased by American superstar violinist Joshua Bell in 2001 for around $4,000,000. It's estimated at worth much more than that now but it hasn't been sold since 2001. I kept waiting for you to come to it, but you never did!

I'm a violin player and i know how importent these instruments are but sorry why i don't see any guqin on the list , a SONG dynasty rare guqin was sold for more than 15M euros in 2010 and it is not the only one by the way

$1,000,000 is alot. These guys really love music. But, I won't mind buying a Rolls Royce and then buy the piano later. Like I need to find how I am transporting these instruments for God's sake!!!

@@koriw1701 old enough to have followed Billy since the release of 'Piano Man', and Elton since the release of 'From My Song Book'. Have been able to see Mr. Joel in concert 15 times in Pittsburgh, and Elton in Las Vegas once. I have seen Billy from Piano man to River of Dreams. Having lived through the majority of both artists hits and albums, I feel that (in my opinion) Billy Joel is the all around better musician, songwriter and showman. He doesnt need flash and glitz. His music hits you at the heart, and many times is about the problems of the working man (Down Easter Alexa, Allentown, Leningrad, Piano Man) as well as many more. I am a musician and pianist as well. Ranking them, Billy wins, hands down. But thank you for thinking I was younger than 35!
