  • ►Big brake upgrades on the Volvo P3 chassis don't have to be astronomically expensive or difficult to source. If you're looking to upgrade to bigger brakes on a budget or just want to stick with OEM Volvo components, you're in luck.
    We offer two kits to upgrade the front brakes of your Volvo P3 from 300mm to 336mm. The first kit linked below includes all the hardware you need, minus the calipers and caliper brackets. If you have access to your own donor car, as Adam Goral did in this video, you can save a large sum of money. If you don't have access to a donor car, you're in luck as you can buy the calipers and caliper brackets brand new in the second kit linked below.
    If you are looking to upgrade to this 336mm Volvo big brake kit, know that you must have 18" wheels or larger. Anything less and your wheels will not clear these new, larger calipers.

    Great Video! Just a couple of things I noticed while successfully completing the job. 1) A 11/16 in socket is a good substitute for an 18mm socket for removing the caliper bracket bolts.2) The Disc Brake Anti- rattle clip can be easily installed if you lock the part in place using a 3" C Clamp. You might put a piece duct tape on the sheet metal part to help😄 hold the clamp in place and prevent damage to the finish.

    You can also use the brakes from the XC60. Although the discs are slightly smaller (328mm), the caliper has two pistons instead of only one in the XC90/S80 caliper.

      I already have the 336mm rotors with a single-piston caliper on my 2010 S80 V8 AWD. Are they better or worse than the XC60?

    • @flavioc5389
      @flavioc5389 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Matt_from_Florida the XC60 caliper has two pistons, thus it will give a better brake feel and more uniform pressure over the pad/discs contact are.

      @t6pix Před 8 měsíci

      @@flavioc5389 not much difference having one big piston vs 2 small ones, especially when those 2 piston are on the same side. so not much of an upgrade over 336mm

    Great video, just confirming here to confirm the torque amount for brake callipers was 200 Nm. The OEM Volvo rotors come with the specs which is also quite handy but CZcams always makes things easier.

    I just used the front calipers/ brackets from the 2010-2015 xc60 paired with the pads and rotors now I have dual piston calipers and 336mm rotors

    If you depress brake pedal an inch or a little more you will have the master cylinder piston passage fill holes from reservoir and the fluid will not drain continuously and risk air in the ABS pump module. I use a piece of PVC pipe or a length of old broom handle to fashion a pedal presser of a length that allows me to adjust seat forward to depress pedal.

    Appreciate this video FCP Euro! I have a 2017 V60 R-Design and would love to do this upgrade. Could you post a list of the donor car and model years to pickup the 336mm calipers & brackets? I see the only kits available at FCP require you have your own calipers. Thanks!

    Could you do a P3 S60 rear brake upgrade. Maybe going through what Volvo P2 or P3 donor brakes could work. Would P2 S60r rear brakes fit the P3 S60.

    Can, I do the same thing to my p3 2010 xc70 3.2 with the 16" rims. I have 316mm rotors. Just did the front 3 months ago. All new pads and rotors, I quess I am a little demanding on my brakes. After the break on time, great. Now with my normal style, they pulsate like crazy. Not using autozone parts. What do you think

    Vida says no pin grease for my P3 xc70. I assume the same for your brakes.
    Why does everyone still use grease on caliper pins?

      I think Volvo XC90 2003-2014 have 336MM rotor.

  • @markl.bardenwerpersr.7925

    Red locktite requires heat to get it back apart. I won't even let it in my shop door. Someone in the future will not be happy with you when the heat shield bolts break off. I would actually use anti-seize and tighten them adequately. I work on old cars routinely and God bless the tech who plans for the car to last 50 years or more.

    Hi! I have a 2011 S60 and I'm planning to replace the wheels because they're a bit crusty. Any idea if the Volvo 18 inch Y spoke wheels will fit along with the 336mm disc upgrade or do I look for 19 inch wheels?

  • @jonasguns8044
    @jonasguns8044 Před rokem +1

    I did this upgrade, but instead of 336mm, I decided to go with 316mm. Because of the added weight, the steering became a lot stiffer. Did you feel the same?
    Edit: After doing a complete brake fluid change, the steering became a lot better.

    What if the front brake upgrade is only going from 316mm rotors to 336mm? My guess is that the hoses would NOT need to be changed. Does anyone have insight for this assertion I've made?
