      I am leaving the engine stock. It has enough power for me - more will just get me in trouble :-) I installed some aftermarket side skirts and painted the wheels and skirts to match each other. Planning on aftermarket brakes when the stock ones need replacing.

    Everything you said is pretty much why i got an MK6. Although, i have the convenience package which takes care of pretty much all of your gripes about the electronics except it doesnt have navigation. The coolest thing is how immensely popular the mk6 model is and that you can get 100-200 horsepower gains with relatively little investment.

    • @NotSoHandyCarGuy
      @NotSoHandyCarGuy  Před 4 lety +1

      Absolutely my dude! I've been looking into a new head unit, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. And that's for sure! I went with a Unitronic stage II tune and gained close to 100hp and 116ft/lbs, and that's only with a downpipe and intake for supporting mods! Now traction is just my limiting factor... gotta get an LSD now haha

    Regarding the infotainment portion of the video, for my Mk6 I purchased a RCD-330+ headunit off eBay which is plug and play for our cars and gives you a nice touchscreen and includes things such as CarPlay. They run for about $250-300 but its hands down one of the best interior upgrades and makes it look very modern. AND it’s super easy to install.

    Just got a 2012 4 months ago. It's at APR stage 2+. I wasn't planning on it but I now have the bug to mod it further. I did a rear seat delete and added DV+, I plan on getting upgraded piping and intercooler to set it up for K04. I will be finished after that because I read that if I went further I would need to replace engine components and it then becomes risky. The K04 should get me to 350hp which will be just what I want. A daily driver that can do 0-60 in the mid to low 4s while getting great mpg is just perfect.
    My complaints are the chrome GTI on steering wheel as well as around shifter peels easily, down shifting to third isn't as smooth as it should be, and low rpm power is pretty weak(which is to be expected).

    Before you stage or tune it you'll need to upgrade the clutch or you'll be on the side of the road with a roasted clutch. Highly recommend the South bend 2 daily kit, flywheel changes the shifting dynamic and you feel more connected to the car.

    Great choice with the mk6 gti! Did you think about the WRX or WRX STI? Both are fun to drive (at least I think), have great modability, and both have a pretty strong history. What made you choose the gti over other choices?

    • @NotSoHandyCarGuy
      @NotSoHandyCarGuy  Před 4 lety +2

      Dillon Brim thanks for the comment! The WRX certainly did cross my mind. And I’m not particularly proud of the reason I stopped looking into them- I thought WRX drivers, and Subaru drivers as a whole, had too much of a negative connotation to them. And I’ve also heard of a lot of boxer engines with knock and gasket issues. But no car is going to be completely problem free. Honestly, a WRX is the only Subaru I’d consider driving. There was something about the GTI that really stuck out to me... the price. Haha. WRX’s definitely have a higher resale value and at the time I had a strict budget.

There are some other videos out there discussing the some of the common faults out there. You are lucky to have it intake replace under warranty. The others coming up will be the window regulators common fault from the mk3's and suspension pushes if you drive it hard. I think another nice upgrade/preventative maintenance would be the 'diesel-geek' gear bushings and short shifter. You will really feel the 'slack on the knob' disappear with precise shifting.
