I could play this for 3 hours straight. Now that I look back at it, it's not as fast as Tetris 99, but from my understanding, a lot of good Tetris 99 players rely too much on post drop/placement rotation which Tetris 99 allows, so they would have trouble playing this arcade version. That makes me feel better for being able to play an arcade tetris marathon at high speed back in the day!
Getting another Tetris while the previous scoring notification hasn't disappeared yet has caused the game to firstly handle the single without notifying the player while also not giving point value for that. After that, the game detects a triple and notifies the player about that while giving appropriate point value.
The arcade version from Atari was legal. The NES port from this arcade version by Tengen (a subsidiary from Atari) was illegal. They thought that they had the rights to release this version of Tetris for NES. Which was eventually not the case. Some copies were made I believe, and are considered rare. Still a pity that version was not ported officially to any (game) system.
The best thing about this version is that when speed reaches certain lvl it never increases anymore and the game can be played for hours literally.....

This game ate so many of my quarters back in the day. This was probably my favorite classic version of Tetris.
pro tip : watch movies at Kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.

My dad and I were at a old movie theater and I saw the arcade of this game. So glad I got to play this version. Best game.

completion is impossible as far as i know, even level 256 was no rollover (which i reached in my 5 million score)
