    Winter has finally decided to throw me a bone. Mild temperatures allowed me to remove my RaceDeck Free Flow floor and clean the floor underneath. The entire process took me a few hours.

      A lesser man would have no need for pants such as these.

    Thanks for putting this together. Now I have a solid blueprint on how to clean my Racedeck. Your videos always have such great production value.

      Thanks, Rob. I appreciate that. The key to this process is not having a lot of things sitting on the floor that can't easily be moved. The vast majority of my floor can easily be removed for intermittent cleanings, but some of the stuff along the big wall requires a bit of effort to move out of the way. I do a full clean once a year in the summer.

    Great idea with the gas can and floor squeegee.

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! I don't use that method with the Swisstrax because the increased thickness of the tiles makes them less inclined to bend over the hump created by the jerry can so the tiles split apart. I now lean sections up against a wall or garbage bin and rinse them top to bottom. Did I see you on the Throttle Body Media chat earlier tonight?

      @@RADGarage thanks for letting me know about the Swisstrax and other options. Yes I was on throttle body media for the whole podcast. I met Jason Green at the World of Wheels in 2020. What a great guy and support him 100%

    Being new to the channel and only now getting up to speed with all the great content, I've been wondering how the flooring system was thoroughly cleaned. I had no idea the RaceDeck system could be dismantled as easily as it was. Very cool. Rick, you've thought of everything! (Mike in Ohio)

    I have drains in my garage so I would spray off weekly . My question is do the black get super dirty ? I’m leaving toward graphite or alloy as the majority due to just not having the black show spots

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, the black vinyl tiles in the oak pattern do require regular cleaning. I have one of the spray mops and it works great. I only have the black mourned the edges and not in any areas that see cars. Just foot traffic on the black.

    Slick. I live in NE Ohio, and we get clobbered with snow and salt. Was wondering how I would handle cleaning out the crud that would accumulate with Free Flow tiles. Nice that you can take huge swaths out in one swoop.

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 6 lety

      Greg D Yup, it takes a bit of maintenance and patience to keep it clean during the winter, but the Free Flow ensures me the floor is always dry and that is key for me.

  • @TheGhussey
    @TheGhussey Před 4 lety +1

    Ripping the Free-Flow tiles up to clean the gunk and dirt/sand/salt every spring is a lot of work. I really don't see the advantage of the free-flow tiles versus the normal Diamond Plate tiles. At least with the solid surface tiles, the surface can be swept, blown, wiped clean daily, or weekly. Someone explain the advantage with the Free-Flow and Ribtrax tiles because I'm not seeing it. Thanks for your input to my decision process.

    Did you have the garage constructed with the intent of detailing inside of it? Are the walls finished in something other than standard drywall?

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 6 lety +1

      rockhills Short answer: no. I'm fortunate the entire perimeter is a concrete stem wall so no issue with the drywall wicking water. I'd do a few things different in retrospect had I known where things would go.

  • @RoddyDa
    @RoddyDa Před 6 lety +1

    Great video on ease of cleaning. As it stands do you still like the free flow floor you chose or would you have gone with the solid tile instead?

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 6 lety +2

      Roddy Da I have never second guessed my choice of Free Flow. My main objective was to have a floor that was dry in all seasons. This is only possible with Free Flow. It helps me combat the constant road debris that gets dragged in during the winter and allows me to wash in the non-winter season. It's a perfect fit for me, but it depends on what a person wants out of their floor.

    You owned RaceDeck FreeFlow for 3-4 years then "upgraded" to Swisstrax? Why did you replace after only 3-4 years? And why did you switch to Swisstrax, rather than stick with RaceDeck, given your very favorable comments about your experience with RaceDeck? ...Now that you have used Swisstrax for awhile, does that change your views?

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 3 lety

      I think I had the RaceDeck closer to 7 or 8 years actually. I originally laid it down in 2010 and then replaced it with a Swisstrax floor. At that time, I was bored of the look, but had no issues with the performance of the floor. I started looking at different colours but started to wonder if I wanted to go with a different style of tile. At that time, RaceDeck had launched an XL size tile which interested me. I began discussions with the team at RD and it looked like we were going to collaborate on a new floor. It didn't work out and I then got introduced to the owner of Swisstrax through a mutual friend and we hit it off. A few weeks later, a full Swisstrax floor was sitting in my garage and I couldn't be happier. The Swisstrax "Ribtrax" tiles are higher quality in their construction and they feel better underfoot. Not to say the RD tiles are bad, but I am very happy to have Swisstrax now. I was able to sell my RaceDeck floor to recoup some of the original costs. That's a huge plus to this style of floor.

      @@RADGarage happy to see you still replying to older videos! I came here to look for this exact question and here is it. I’m in the process of transforming my 2x4 studded walls into my dream garage with a budget in mind. I thought I made up my mind on choosing RD free flow vs Swisstrax because of the roughly $700 more for Swisstrax, however after laying down a brand new RD floor in my dads garage last weekend, the 12x12 tiles didn’t 100% do it for me. With someone with a budget in mind, would you recommend spending the extra money on Swisstrax, or should I spend the extra money on other parts of the garage? Thanks Rick

    How often do you do a full clean like this?

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 6 lety

      Nelson E Last winter was so bad, I only did a full clean like this once! The winter the year before was much more mild so I did it a dozen or so times. In the warmer months, I do it a few times a month because I want things super clean. It really depends on the conditions where you live. I love doing it though.

    Alberta? How do you deal with the salt stains on the cement?

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 7 lety

      Yes, the salt on the city streets is a major life problem. Not sure where you are, but here the City is using a pickle mixture that leaves a thin flaky coat of salt on everything. I seal the concrete pad in the garage every Spring to help protect the cement from salt damage. I also seal my driveway every Spring, too. I have had very good success with a sealer I get through local dealer. It is a struggle, though.

    • @DanMagnusson
      @DanMagnusson Před 7 lety

      I'm in the twin cities, MN but lived in Calgary and Edmonton most of my life. We are in the rust belt here. They salt, but put very little grit down here so we get tons of salt residue after the winters.

    • @RADGarage
      @RADGarage  Před 7 lety

      Same deal here. There is a white coat of salt residue on everything. Walkways, sides of buildings, clothes, etc. It irritates me beyond belief. Beside being a pain, I wonder what kind of impact it has on the environment.
