Amazing. I remembered vaguely seeing a movie on TV about 50 years ago in which Shirley Temple sang about spinach. Couldn't what movie or anything else.So I did a search for Shirley Temple spinach and voila, here it is. The internet is so great for allowing people my age the chance to find and revisit long lost memories. Like this one.
For over 20 years since I was an older kid in the early 2000’s I listened to the spinach song with Shirley temple and Jack Hayley and Alice Faye in my dad’s food sample music cd on the radio in my mom and dad’s car while listening to other food songs in the cd too like truly scrumptious from chitty chitty bang bang and sugar by Peggy Lee and hold tight want some seafood mama by the Andrews sisters and mashed potato by Dee Dee woods and my boy lollipop by Millie small and cab Calloway’s everybody eats when they come to my house and Minnie the moocher and a chicken ain’t nothing but a bird and Carole king’s chicken soup with rice and dean Martin’s how’s ya like your eggs in the morning taj mahal’s fishin blues lee Dorsey’s yum yum and alley mcbeal’s sweet inspiration and junior walker’s home cooking and Amos milburn’s one scotch one bourbon one soda
Pure delight! It's hard to imagine a time when a video like this won't bring joy to any viewer lucky enough to find it. I love the music of the 30s, and the writing and lyrics are so comical and smart, too. The three stars - Alice, Bill and Shirley - are both perfect and appear to be naturally at ease. I hope it gets a trillion views.
Always loved this song. It's reprised at the end of this movie. For the ending credits with this song, check out "Military Man" (with the famous triple tap dance routine). // One other thing: Shirley Temple had such a tiny mouth, which is one of several reasons why she was adorable. When she sang it became one of her most charming features.
Watching this, you can understand why Shirley Temple was such a big star! she's very endearing. Alice Faye and Jack Haley are not chopped liver, either! Three great stars from a wonderful entertainment era
No titulo, os nomes de Shirley Temple e Jack Haley não aparecem, mas eles estavam em condições de igualdade com Alice Faye, conforme mostra o video. Cley Cormack.- Rio de Janeiro,Brasil 13/02/2014. Thank you FairMissFaye, for video and post. Very good.
Came here because someone said "spinach" in a podcast, and this popped into my head. On another note, I wanted to like spinach so bad when I was a kid thanks to Popeye (I wanted to be strong too) but it was horrible. Helpful hint to parents trying to get their kid to eat spinach, make creamed spinach, or add a pat (or 1/2 a pat) of butter to a serving. That got me, my children, and those I've babysat, to happily eat spinach.
Maybe I'm a pre-vert, but I have always LOVED spinach! Cooked just right, with butter and seasoned with pepper! MM-MMM! It's that damn Popeye that made it controversial. When he eats his spinach, It acts on him exactly like crystal meth. I think kids of the '30s rebelled in disillusionment, when they discovered that spinach DIDN'T enable them to bench-press a battleship, but was just another vegetable.

Why always they advice the children get the spinach? Ferro at spinach is difficult to absorb by body....and its rich of purin too. Purin caused gout. Don't worry sherly,I agree with you. . . No spinach!
Nutrisia Sayuti It was the era. There were studies done that believed there were more nutrients in spinach than other foods (we now know there are better foods out there). That is why Popeye ate spinach and gained muscle. It was also able to be canned, which again in the era was important for storage, cost and transit.

I'm only 14 and I sometimes silently reminisce about shows I used to watch. Shows like Abadas and 64 Zoo Lane. Honestly, it pays to be British.
