When Binghamton finds out that Parker is an old friend of a famous war correspondent, he makes Parker the Base PR Officer, in the hope of becoming the subject of the correspondent's next story. But Parker's plan to improve the Captain's image backfires.
The actors of McHales Navy were wonderful comedian actors. Everything looked so natural. LOL LOL. ROLF!
Joe Flynn from 8:43 to 12:54 has got to be some of the most hilarious comedy ever written. .LMFAO! !.. Him sailing out of that jeep just puts me into tears!
Arthur Marx Grouchos son was a great writer I mean Grouchos son born with a comical mind dont you think inherited from his dad, HA!
They just don't make 'em like that anymore. The man was a genius, in the same class as Peter Sellars in my opinion (who we also lost far too soon).

I best remember Joe Flynn from Disney movies when I was a kid. He always played the bad guy, kinda like on this show.

That hot rodder on the 109. I love it.
And that hot rodder on the 109 was none other than John F. Kennedy (who was U.S. president at the time McHale's Navy was first aired).
Just found out that Tim Conway passed away...right after watching this episode. So sad. Rest in Peace Tim!
Tim Conway as well as the man who plays Capt. Binghampton are both deceased.
Capt. Binghampton drowned in his own backyard pool.

Joe flynn was only 50 yrs old when he drowned in his pool. I believe he lived in New York.
He was swimming by himself, and i forget who, maybe his wife cane home and found him floating.
Its so weird knowing that he drowned, coz he was always falling into the water on this show. Lol
Its not funny, its so very sad, but he was so dam funny.
He looked older than his age in my opinion. I thought he was over 50 in the show. Lol.
May he REST IN PEACE.
Its not to late to still pray for his soul.
Fuji is still alive at 90, and i think i just read that willy became a country star and is still alive in his 70s or 80s. He was young in this show.

I got it. From 1x01 the door to Binghamton's office swung out to the front room . 2x07 we didn't see his office. It it a popular set. 2x08, his door swings into his office. Remodel! Let's see where it goes from there... I am a carpenter and I watch McHale's TOO much!
On Tweleve O'clock High the same office door opens inwards to the office.

@@UFO-047 A couple of Years ago on November 22nd a group of High School kids came to my door selling tickets I invited them in and wrote them a check as they were leaving I asked them if any thing was said about JFK today They looked puzzled and one said who is JFK? I was so shocked I couldn’t believe it. Of course I gave them a history lesson I told them to question their teachers about JFK.
Ya one of these episodes has the 109 coming in to port, and they make a mention of him,

The joke got in just under the wire -- it aired on Nov. 4, 1963, 18 days before JFK was assassinated (this gag and another one from Season 1 were edited out of the syndication prints of the show for years following JFK's death).

Cooper ended up being a comedian car salesman on a lot of other shows
Although Ernest Borgnine got top billing for this TV comedy, the credit for making this TV series such a hit was Joe Flynn, with his acerbic and physical comedy talents. Without him and the well-suited writing that went along with the Captain Binghampton character, this TV series could have easily been another "Broadside" TV show that flopped in one season.

I totally agree. Joe Flynn was the heart of the show. All the antics and plots wrap around him and his zany bits of slapstick comedy. Without him there would not have been a continuing tug of war between duty/respect and personal animosity.
Flynn was Gold .... real talent.
Captain Binghamton is the real funny man in this series.
As referenced by the Captain, the Aleutions were in the North Pacific. My father fought the Japanese there WW2.
So sad to hear Tim Conway pass and especially how his wife and step daughter abused him from what I understand. One of best shows ever.

The first time I saw this I caught the reference to John F. Kennedy 0:49 - 0:56
Several previous comments refer to PT-109/JFK, and some to a Season 1 episode. That was S1, Ep14 - 'Send Us a Hero' - see czcams.com/video/ezKwG9uHoqE/video.html. The reference to PT-109 is near the end of the episode at approx 22-1/2 minutes, and the best part is about 45 seconds later with Ensign Parker imitating the way the skipper of PT-109 speaks.
" That young Hot Rod on the PT 109 " . This would be the second refferince to Pres. Kennedy . First season of " McHale's Navy " . They painted one of the PT's to look like the 109 docked by the 73 .
I'm not sure about the date this aired or when but I'm sure that it was not long after this episode that Pres. Kennedy was assassinated . Afterwards they dropped all references to both PT 109 and Pres. Kennedy's time in the service .
The first time President Kennedy was mentioned was in the episode entitled " Send us a hero".
