David Thewlis has such a childlike look about him, especially at the end when he’s gazing up at Dream. Even though the character is shown to manipulate and do terrible things to others, it feels like he’s never truly grown up after being influenced by the ruby’s powers from such a young age. I guess a good way to think of it is that while you may be able to kill one of the Endless, you can’t outright destroy them. They’re fundamental aspects of existence. As long as sentient life exists, so too will they. Their forms might change, but their identities will persist and they will endure.
I like how characters always accuse Morpheus of being heartless, but he’s actually quite patient and forgiving towards humans who act out of ignorance. Here, he tries several times to save John, because he says that John was “cursed” by his father, and he also knows that John wishing to rid the world of lies is a relatively altruistic goal (if extremely misguided). John isn’t acting out of greed (like Rodrick), or fear (like Alex), or lust for power (like Ethel) - he wants to make the world better, and Dream tries to show him how it won’t work.
its here i find morpheus to not be your typical god/god like being he would of punished john on the spot, but instead he analysed what happend and realised that the ruby falling into his possession wasn't his fault, instead he gives john the one thing he didnt realise he wanted, just a good nights sleep, and john is finally at peace such a beautiful and unexpected turn
This entire sequence was one of the best in the season at getting the whole vibe and motif of Sandman just right. It's clear they didn't have quite the budget they wanted and a lot of scenes in various episodes were massively cut back in scope and visualization. But when they could afford it, the show is amazing.
I remember in the comic, John Dee (aka Dr. Destiny) looked like a horrific zombie when he escaped from Arkham Asylum and left Gotham City to find the ruby.

it was a good show. but pinpoint...HELL NO. they mucked up Constantine completely, got rid of brute and glob for "gault", and cocked up the storyline involving Daniel while they were at it. and if you've ever read the original comic...this version of John Dee is a freaking milquetoast compared to the real lunatic. And although the actresses that played Death and rose Walker were good...the simple fact remains the original characters are white, REALLY white in the case of Death. And while Lucien (who is MALE, tyvm) is respected, he has NEVER been the "power behind the throne" The series delibrately seperated itself from the greater DC universe, and put on a coat of woke paint for good measure. I'm glad it got a second season, but i hope they don't write themselves into a corner as they keep changing things. If the original comic was a filet mingon, the tv show is a strip steak.. Good....but not AS good.

If you want to have a sliver of hope to kill him, you need to kill of any past, present, and future sentient being in the multiverse. And that includes any gods he indirectly created through the dreams of sentient beings. He an aspect/concept of reality, just like his siblings are. As long as any thinking, dreaming thing exists, he will persist. He's as old as creation, one of the first beings to come into existence.
