- Around 2 million people in the UK have a food allergy, but have you ever heard of someone being allergic to water? 23-year-old Niah Selway, from Hastings, was born with the rare skin condition, called Aquagenic Pruritus. It means that if her skin comes into contact with water she has a severe extremely painful ‘scalding’ reaction, which can last for hours, with no effective pain relief. And it’s not just having a shower that she has to be careful of - Niah can’t go on holiday because she is scared of sweating, she can’t go outside in the rain and she can’t even get emotional because tears will spark physical agony. Niah joins us, alongside Dr George Moncrieff, to tell us more.

I like how the doctor says that he is just a general practitioner who has in interest in dermatology rather than a "top dermatologist".
I also have this allergic reaction I can shower but for only like 5 minutes 😭😭😭
I'm terrified to take a bath or get water on my skin. I've found the affirmation "There's nothing to fear." When repeated over and over greatly reduces the itching. Also, if I have dry clothes (long pants and sleeves) ready IN the bathroom to put on as soon as I get out, it barely happens. I can't be outside in humidity and even my own sweat causes itching. It's a very painful experience that causes anxiety at the same time. No one understands it and one time I went a month without bathing because the itch was so bad. It is a sad condition for sure. However, sometimes water doesn't affect me at all. I can't figure out why it happens sometimes and not others.
These same symphtons is the reason why Im here on this video, startin from extreme side trying To find example of mine
@mamaloula5363 I have found that beta alanine helps me tremendously with the itching.
I have the same problem, I try to take cold showers while trying to make my body understand that it's just water...
My body react to tap water like a toxic liquid..
It's maybe seasonal. I get horrible skin reactions like this to cold and water but only during the winter months.
Been going thru this for 8 yrs now and I work outside, sweat and then showers. I get a double dose everyday. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone
Double dose of what
@@donew1thita11 itching, from sweating then showering.
Double dose of what??????
@@Drater-yllac itching two times a day! One from sweating and the other from the shower.
Me too I have being suffering from this for more than ten years no cure uptill now
I lose my mind if i was allergic to water
Literally because IN SUMMER NO POOL-
Loool was that a menopause joke the male host made towards the woman host at the end?? No fkn way 😂
I also have the same condition though her case is abit severe. Mine is mainly showering. I however get no problem if I jog before a shower.
I have the allergy its the most horrendous thing ever I had to take pictures to send to my doctors my breathing even messed up I sweat and it burns and gets very itchy
Her case is quite severe but most with this condition can pre medicate with corticosteroids and antihistamines.
Not true, it should not be medicated with corticosteroids or antihistamins. Rather beta alanine
how can someone be allergic to water? HOW?
How do the victims of this disease stay hydrated to be able to properly have some semblance of functioning?
Yeeeeeeeeah I don’t actually thinks this is real or at most not a real person 😂😂. Someone’s lying
She’s not allergic to it internally she can drink it it’s just her skin that’s allergic to it.
@@Prince_Michael888it is real. It doesn’t effect your skin on the inside of your body.
@@Prince_Michael888I swear to God it really the reason why I’m here is because I’m finding solution online this is 12years now that I have the disease I’m tired
You know life hates you when it makes you severely allergic to the source of all life. 😂
Iife is survival 100% 24/7

❤🎉😢😢😢😢😢
What if she drinks the water? Does she goes into anaphylactic shock?
It mainly affects the skin and not the inside of the body
@@AmaraARW thats a really weird disease. Hope they find a cure soon.
I saw a video on someone who's got the other one. Aquagenic urticaria. They can't even drink water. So it's internal and external.
I think that someone use my underwear and no good water
Why is she wearing extra clothes, why does she have long hair?
I thought I would add a comment that was not racist
Huh? Lol
Start eating healthy food.
