    If you ever get a bunch of baby stuff that you don't want to deal with selling at the flea market, it can be worth it to bring it to a secondhand store that specializes in baby/kid stuff, like Once Upon a Child, if you have one nearby. They'll go through everything and make an offer on anything they want, then you can just donate whatever is left over!

    Storage wars isn’t real y’all know that right? It’s reality tv only, very much scripted!! The storage units where I have (2) units are full of junk, not worth bidding on…! Enjoy your first unit Melissa, you’re way more fun & interesting than storage wars could ever be!!!

    Baby items can be quite expensive and the things you have shown look to be in excellent condition and pristine. I don’t know anyone who would pay to keep and store items infested with bed bugs 🐜 or anything else. Breast pumps can be cleaned up and sanitized for someone else to use. I would sell entire baby lot for two hundred dollars,,, the breastfeeding pillow alone you showed costs over fifty dollars.

    Hi, Melissa. Most storage unit buyers have a truck or a U-Haul trailer in which to put their "finds".
    Looks like you got your investment back, with the Graco bassinett, and 100% plus profit with all the small things you found. You could get at least $3 a pack for feminine products and the watch bands would sell well for $5 each. Watch batteries are about $3 each, then you could sell those two watches for $10 a piece. If the DVD player works you could get $5 for it. Even the generic brands of those are selling for around $30 at Wal-mart. (The two ends of the broken necklace would make beautiful earrings. They just need to be removed from the chain pieces and hung on earwires. I make jewelry and refurbish/repurpose old necklaces and stuff. Just one of my many "crafty" talents.) Not a bad haul.

    Just a suggestion for future videos like this. Place the camera down so it faces into the box so we can view the items whether trash or not. We want to see what is in the unit. You do not need to hold up each item that way. My best storage unit buy was a complete Dollar Store that had closed down. It even had the cash registers with starting day cash in each one. I was able to sell the items back to a local thrift store to me for 25 cents each. My worst unit had bags of crystal meth in it and after throwing that away (the police told me to just throw it away) there was not much left. I just broke even on it. So it is a gamble just like the mystery boxes you buy.

    My brother has a best friend who's family has owned a large storage unit facility for years. Unfortunately, once the time has lapsed and the units become abandoned they actually thoroughly go through each unit before auctioning them off. They then repack the units and place locks on them. The day of the auctions they cut the locks off (even though they have the keys) to make it seem legit. I personally think what they do is disgusting, but sadly it seems to be a very common practice in the storage unit business.

    • @kristiphillips7783
      @kristiphillips7783 Před 2 lety +7

      That is not true. Most large places don't have the time or energy to do all that. They make their money off the auctions and just want the stuff out ASAP so they can get the unit rented again. I also know a few families in the business. Even storage unit owners have laws they need to follow and sign off on before construction even begins or they are the manager of. BIG problems if they don't. Protective rights in place on both ends. If a business is doing that and get caught...not good!! Not trying to start anything as I am 100% sure that DOES happen but from what I have learned over the years of knowing these people...not a smart idea as the on consequences are pretty steep!

    • @SlMONSAYS
      @SlMONSAYS Před 2 lety +5

      @@kristiphillips7783 I think it'd be fair to say that many may not, but just as fair to say that many certainly do. Not at all fair to claim it to be untrue. Once the original owners time is up and it can legally be sold, that's where the regulations end and the facility is free to do as they wish with the contents. There's always a gap between the units being seized and the auction date which has its own set of regulations...this period is when anything the owners (or the people who work with the owners) do the picking of the most valuable items. Think about it...its an easy way to cash in twice on each unit and it happens all day, everyday.

    This was fun to watch. I'm glad you will make money on it. I always thought about buying one but I'd definitely need help.

    Melissa, I love you and your channel so much! I want to say that I think you are a little too picky about what you keep verses what you toss. Even taking pots/pans/wicker baskets/baby pillows/plastic changing pads/breast pumps etc. To the flea market and having a seperate sale just for well used items selling them for $1 or $2 each you will make a killing! Ones mans trash is another ones treasure. Ive seen worse stuff at goodwill than what you were throwing away. If you are worried about bedbugs leave anything suspect in a HOT FLORIDA garage for 2 weeks and bed bugs are dead. They cant survive the heat! People will buy old blankets and towels for their dogs or for shelters.

    YOu can hang the belts on a hanger or something, place them in the sun, and they will straighten out.

    Those baby pillows are used for nursing babies and the covers comes off and you can wash them and donate to the woman’s shelter!!!

    I enjoyed this video a bunch! You did really well with it for the first unit you've bought. I watch Treasure Hunting with Jebus. They started out dumpster diving and have progressed to storage units. Watching for a couple of years I've seen quite the progression in what they actually bid on and how they go about going through everything. It's definitely an adventure and a mystery!

    I buy lockers in Australia. I had to buy a big van to bring everything home and Im lucky enough to have HEAPS of room at home to store it all. It IS ALOT of work...its not easy AT ALL. Well done to you
