  • The first Maxi Avalanche of 2022 in Vallnord Bike Park Andorra!
The format for Maxi Avalanche races is a qualifying race on Saturday split into 5 separate heats - The top 30 in each heat make the final with the tip 3 in each heat starting on the front row of the grid and so on. I managed to win my heat on Saturday meaning i had a good starting grid pick for Sunday.
On Sunday we race twice. Like motocross, with points allocated to each finishing position in the two races for an overall result.
I had a terrible start in race one and really didn't feel good finishing 9th. This is race two and the final race of the weekend - I got a much better start and eventually finished 4th. 9-4 resulted in 6th overall which a decent result but not what I'd hoped for.
Damien Oton was the overall winner going 1-1 and running away with both races.
The races start at 2300m altitude so high enough to make a bit of difference to the lungs and heart - I found myself at maximum heart rate for a large period of each race and feeling quite rough afterwards haha! Looking forwards to some more mass start racing in the coming weeks with the Mountain of Hell and Megavalanche.

Ahh cheers! Not as exciting as James one while he's burried in the pack with people crashing and all sorts haha. But it's nice being out front and not having to deal with too much carnage ha!!

My bps would be a lot lower than 199 at this stage. It would be zero actually.

I didn't like the this parkour. There is no much more place to pass someone. Nearly no where. Great effort but it is like a train carriage rather then race.

Yeh it is super frustrating at this race for places to pass. There really are not many good spots so the start becomes so so important!

Hard to take any sport seriously that is performed on bicycles. I was waiting for the little bells.

Hahaha! Great comment. I'm assuming you would win le tour de France in summer and Rampage in Autumn without breaking a sweat haha!
