I can attest to ONJ's character as I met her in 1987 or '88 while delivering her room service. I believe she was on tour at the time. She was gracious and very much a great communicator. I've never been a star struck type of guy so it was easy for me to chat with her at her hotel room door for 15 minutes. She could have said thank you and shut the door but instead we carried on our conversation while her two very young daughters were running around in the background. She was a very genuine, humble gentle soul. I will always remember her beautiful smile and her thoughtful answers to my questions about what her fame meant to her. She wasn't about that life - she was about family and she liked people. We lost a good one when she passed away.
@@michaelgibson6204 There were two little ones in the background. I thought she had introduced both as her daughters but perhaps only one was a daughter and the other a playmate. Either way, ONJ seemed to love the joyful laughter of those children.
By all accounts, you are right. She has a long-standing reputation as being a wonderful human being. I saw her do a concert in 2017. Pure professional who loved her occupation. She could easily have canceled her tour (after being diagnosed with cancer for the third time), but there she was, giving 100% for a crowd of less than 1,000 in a small town.
I have been very surprised to see the many many small places that she's been touring. So sad that she wasn't in better health, The Stones etc are still selling our stadiums. I believe that she could as well if she wanted to.
Many people have it all wrong for performers and crowd sizes. The best crowds are the small ones. You can get to know them, it's more intimate....and they feel more like you're having in party in their back yard ...imagine being able to shake hands, give a hug to a person like Olivia Newton John, rather than some rude performer who's an asshole....[the list is long]. I don't know why people admire that kind of performer no matter how good they are in their kind of music...or noise.....perhaps they have low expectations of themselves and emulate the lowest common denominator of self aggrandization. Not the late Olivia Newton John, she delivered more than just a great show during her lifetime.....way more.
Thanks for letting us reminisce about Olivia. She was born in England but she was raised in Australia. Apparently she moved to the USA in 1975. Olivia was definitely a singer, first and foremost. What a beautiful soul, she will be sadly missed.
Thank you Jamel for continuing to honor this great ICON. From everything I've read and from everyone that I have heard, fans and peers, say she was just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. I have never heard anyone say anything negative about her! She is considered a National Treasure in Australia. The city of Melbourne, lit all their buildings in Pink the evening she passed away. Sydney followed suit the following night and lit the entire Sydney Opera House in pink to honor Dame Olivia Newton-John. They will be having a huge event in a month's time to honor her in Melbourne, something of a state memorial concert. It is supposed to be huge as she has many peers and fans who adored her.
For me, Olivia personifies that old-fashioned term for a female singer..."songbird". She was indeed a songbird with a voice like birdsong...beautiful, lilting, sweet & heart-piercing. I don't think she'll ever be forgotten.💙☮💙
I'll never get over my boyhood crush on Olivia. She just had it all. I'm so sad she's gone and along with it such a huge part of my childhood. Youth is truly wasted on the young.
She born in England, family moved to Australia when she was about 5. She grew up in Parkville which inner city suburb of Melbourne which about 30 minutes drive from here. She lived overseas in America for decades now but she sounded like her accent never changed in all those years and sounds like the woman next door. Do not think fame changed her personality one bit. Seemed liked she treated every person she meet with the same warmth which is a rare trait when you that famous. She will be sadly missed. Feel for her daughter, husband and extended family right now. They will miss her more than any of us that never lucky enough to meet her. If I can goto the state memorial service I will try to pay my respects. R.I.P. Olivia Newton-John
When I heard that she passed away I was just stunned... I of course knew about her long battle with Cancer... but there was always something very special about Olivia... it was like she was always there... I have been listening to her for about 50 years now... I still can’t believe that she’s gone.
This just hit and I'm here immediately. This lady was an early childhood crush! Amazing talent! This comes from the musical Grease. The movie of which she starred in with John Travolta, and Stockard Channing among other talented actors! It's a true classic of 70's cinema!
she's still a crush to me, from high school and college. The real crush is on the world's hearts now, if they have any decency left, she had to leave, no more suffering. Not many can leave the legacy she left behind.
Olivia was a singer first. It was only later that she was picked to play Sandy in "Grease," then Kira in "Xanadu." In fact, in one interview she mentioned that she didn't think she would be right for the part of Sandy because she was 29 at the time and felt she could not play a high schooler.
Her duet with John Denver is gorgeous as well. The song is "Fly Away" from John Denver's Christmas Special in '76 ! John Denver's CZcams Channel shared it the day she passed. I think you would enjoy !!!
I met her at a cocktail party about 10 years ago and she was so lovely! She directed the conversation and questions to me, she DID NOT want to talk about herself. Just so down to earth and so kind, I was blown away!!!
I will say this, every live performance that I have seen of her, shes never ever mailed it in. Every one of them she put 100 into it. You can tell in this performance shes into it.
I was lucky enough to have met her !! 1991 in Hollywood and in 2001 in Miami !! Yes she was really super nice !! Note that she had 8 albums out before Grease came along !! 2 number 1 singles and 2 number 1 albums and 4 Grammys and many american music awards !!! SHE WAS A SINGER AND A REAL ONE !!!!

Olivia Newton John was definitely a singing superstar with a long string of hits that helped define the 70s before she ever dabbled in film. "Grease" catapulted her to ultra-superstardom and added momentum and a larger fanbase for her to continue into the 80s as a pop singer.
She was best friends with Karen Carpenter and often sang Close To You in concert as a tribute. She was a beautiful woman is all ways. R.I.P miss Olivia.
Her ability to connect instantly with her audience is a rare skill. Throw in her top notch vocals and stunning looks and its hard not to fall for her. She had the whole package. And from what i hear, she was a truly good person too - especially to the cancer community.
About 1965 I used to run home from school to see her on the afternoon Melbourne TV show Time For Terry. Close to start of her career. A big send off when she won a trip to England in a singing competition. Host predicted a big future for her in music and even films. How right he was even so early on.
Thanks Jamal. I'm a brother like you and been a fan of hers for years. Honestly I haven't been following her lately, but I broke down in tears on hearing that she passed on. She was truly beautiful inside and out. RIP Dame Olivia Newton-John. You are no longer in pain 💐🙏.

Olivia was Australian. She was living in California when she passed. A beautiful soul who faced a lot of adversity in her life and fought cancer for 3 decades.....So gifted with a beautiful voice.
Our Olivia was our Australian Queen, she was approachable person, & so down to earth. She’s Australian bro! Thank you for sharing our girl with the world. 🙏🏽💝
When I was younger, maybe 5ish...6?...Grease premiered on broadcast TV and it was such a big deal for us. I remember us all sitting around the big console TV and when the scene came up where Olivia (Sandy) sang this my young heart melted. I thought she was an absolute beauty with the voice of an angel. I wanted to grow up and be exactly like her ❤ When you spoke of her smiling as she sings this...that's what does it. This song could be sung by a million other artists with the same incredible voice but it's the way she sings it with her soul. No one else could do it like her. To this day my heart still melts when I hear this. She literally was an angel on Earth. Rest in peace Ms Olivia. You are so loved by many and will forever be missed.
I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Grease, but I only learned after her passing that her grandfather was Jewish and fled from Germany to England during the Nazi regime. He was a brilliant man who won a Nobel Peace Prize in physics or quantum physics…something along those lines. He was also good friends with Albert Einstein. Imagine that!
The Grease Soundtrack album was one of my first. I listened to it again and again and thought Olivia was so pretty! Back then, they cast people in late 20s and even into 30s as teens, but those actors were great & the chemistry between ONJ & John Travolta was fantastic. I'm sorry you seem so discouraged lately, Jamel. Your "keeping great music alive" vids have been a real treat to me since I first found you. I've watched dozens. Your warmth (when the world can be so ugly & divisive), enthusiasm, and your respect for the music of years past has been a real comfort. You seem like a genuinely good person. I hope you're able to get over the hump & find the success you want on CZcams. You deserve it.
It was the first album I remember purchasing with my own money, my 12th birthday, birthday money. I bought it on cassette. I bet I played it a thousand times. I danced to it and knew every word on every song on the album. What a treat!
She was a singer from the mid 60's but her big hit first came out 1n 1971. She had quite a few songs before she did the movie musical "Grease" which is where this song is from. Once she did the film her fame went global
We took a big loss when Olivia passed. I'm still numb from hearing about it. I grew up listening to ONJ and still have listened to her these days. She is walking the streets of gold as we speak. No more pain. No more sorrow. Olivia you will forever be missed. Fly Away beautiful angel. ❤❤🙏❤❤
Olivia Newton-John was an was my crush since the early mid 1970s, at the age of 7. The voice and heart of an angel! Pure beauty, inside and out. I would stack my record player with her albums, and fall asleep listening to her every night. I, finally, was able to see her in concert, August 28, 1982, during her Physical tour. I was front row, at the Richfield Coliseum, in Richfield, Ohio, and was able to give her a dozen roses, during the concert. I was 14 at the time. It was an early birthday present from my parents. It's a memory that I have always held close. Out of all the concert shirts (over a hundred), from the 80s, I had, her Physical Tour shirt is the only one that I still have to this day. My wife and I danced to Suddenly, as our first dance, after our wedding. Prayers go out to her Olivia's husband and daughter. Rest in peace Olivia Newton-John. You deserve it. Your fight is over, and Heaven has won a beautiful angel.
Olivia Newton John began her career as as Country singer. Two of her biggest hits were "Let Me Be There" and "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)". Both are upbeat pop/country. She had many more! I hope you can find time to react to these, as they have been overlooked by most reactors. One of my favorites is "Please Mister Please". Thank You for keeping great music alive 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
You are so right. ONJ was the entire package. My favorite was Olivia Newton-John - If You Love Me (Let Me Know) 1974 (Midnight Special). The male backup vocal adds to the song.
I met her in Pomona once and I melted in her presence. I was a fanboi when I was a kid in the 1970s and I have retained my crush on her all of these years later. She was angelic and nobody ever had a bad word to say about her. I can state emphatically that Olivia Newton-John was beautiful inside and out. What a woman... perfect, even.
Great reaction video! I was just a little kid, and remember going to see Grease back in the '70's. That's when I discovered girls. She had the whole package for sure and seemed sincerely sweet and innocent. Where have the years gone?! RIP ONJ........ She is in the same category as Whitney Houston, Karen Carpenter, etc, as one of the greatest female voices of all time imo.
An ONJ--Zeppelin double bill would have been interesting and certainly would have packed the house lol. Growing up 40 years ago on the heavier musical side her music wasn't exactly my cup of tea but I was definitely aware of her and can certainly appreciate her talent. Holy Toledo she was just insanely gorgeous. RIP.
I grew up on heavy metal, but, man, did I buy everything with Olivia, the soundtracks and her own albums, my favorites being Totally Hot and Physical. Nary a filler on either.
I think you're right about her personality shining through her performances. I also think that sort of genuine personality is impossible to fake, even for a very skilled and seasoned performer. By all accounts she was unique in that regard: No one ever seems to have had a single bad word to say about her, on the contrary.
A song written for her for the film version Grease the musical 1978. It was big hit single that summer. That's why the audience cheered...impeccable singer, human being, great vibrato, no f-ing auto tune or computers. Her smile could light up a room in a power outage. No you had it backwards at first...professionally, singer first and always, actress 2nd.
She was English/Australian. She started as a singer actress at the same time like in a type of Mickey mouse club show as a teen and became a solo singer. She didn't actually do much acting receipt for a couple of movies. She was that type of people that are born to be entertainers because they feel comfortable onstage. She never seemed jaded from the fame or limelight.
She’s from Australia, we are all very chilled here. ONJ is a National treasure, she’s a amazing woman. I once her her described as “Americas sweetheart that comes from Australia.”
Saying Rest in Peace after her name still seems so ODD, like it shouldn't be happening!!! Everyone who knew her said she was an incredibly kind and lovely person. Rick Springfield was a good friend of hers and said she never let fame go to her head. She never bragged about her accomplishments. Gosh, you can look at her face and tell she was like that. This song is from "Grease."
She really was a beautiful person inside and out. Wished I had met her. She helped a lot of people. She was at an airport and gave a stranger a ride home. I don't know a lot of people that'd do that. She was very talented, beautiful and had so much grace. She was the sweetheart, sweet and innocent but could gave those looks on stage that would bring any man to their knees
This was one of my favorite songs by ONJ♥️ I had the honor to sing this song many times in my band while traveling through the country in the late 70's.🤗😎🎤 She is truly resting in great Peace💝 ✝️
ONJ was from Australia. Judging by the impressions that she left on her family, friends and costars she was a genuine, beautiful and kind soul who will be missed greatly, dearly and deeply. ❤
I met her and you nailed it. Just as genuine and beautiful as you see in her performances. She was just a lovely human being. The world was better with her in it.
For our lovely Olivia Newton-John, pretty much the total package, with beauty, not just on the outside, but the inside, too. Another case where the gift and the wrapping are of equal quality. (As a fellow animal lover, she had me hooked) Through the years, even as she changed her look along the way, fashion could never deny her authentic inner glow ❤ And now, the celestial journey home, back into the arms of the unconditional and those she loved on Earth. It always amazes me how poignant, with time and loss, the hook lines of any song ring clearer in retrospect, as if they are fully aware of their eventual destination. As you watch the Xanadu video now, you'll see that, just for a few moments, that is life as it should be; pure celebration, a unified tribal dance of gratitude for being, while we prepare for the main event to come. With Olivia in mind, Xanadu...a Heaven, an afterlife, by any other name, does indeed, still smell as sweet. Gratitude, always...and all ways! Godspeed, Angel.❤ "A million lights are dancing And there you are, a shooting star An everlasting world And you're here with me, eternally" (Jeff Lynne & ELO)
Jeffrey, You clearly have the heart of a Poet as You are describing Ms. Olivia Newton-John this way...nicely stated and uniquely written. The Lyrics written by Jeff Lynne from ELO* (Electric Light Orchestra) from the Movie 'Xanadu' added both a touch of Class and most importantly, an 'Aura of Truth' that with Her Passing, rings True now more than ever! Well done!
@@bakersupreme2010 Thank you so much! I am flattered, humbled and inspired to continue writing. These artists, most of whom I have met and shared time with, feel like family, which is why we take their passings so personally. We feel like time passages persist in repossessing our formative years. Grease came out in my Senior year, and Xanadu (ELO, another on my spoiled musical list of faves) came out in my College years. I crushed the first time I heard and saw her. Again, better to have and lose, than to never hold. The story isn't over yet, anyway :) John Travolta, such a classy dedication: "We will see each other down the road, and we will all be together again! Your Danny, your John." Wow ❤

Olivia Newton-John classy lady R.I.P🤩
*OLIVIA WAS EVERYTHING*
She was such a great singer. And of course a beautiful human being both inside and out.
You are so right. ONJ was the entire package. My favorite was Olivia Newton-John - If You Love Me (Let Me Know) 1974 (Midnight Special). The male backup vocal adds to the song.
💞👍
My very first ever crush... she was such a princess, just gorgeous inside and out. Will always love you Olivia, RIP lovely lady. X
Oh, no, Jamel....I remember hearing her songs on the radio in the early '70s! Grease (1978) was her first film.
She was a warrior for decades. She deservers her wings.
I think you're right about her personality shining through her performances. I also think that sort of genuine personality is impossible to fake, even for a very skilled and seasoned performer. By all accounts she was unique in that regard: No one ever seems to have had a single bad word to say about her, on the contrary.
Olivia Newton John was absolutely fantastic. R.I.P. an angel and lived her whole life like one. Loved that lady.
So beautifully effortless!!
I love this song. She was the perfect "Sandy" in "Grease." "Fly Away" w John Denver should be next. RIP Olivia. She was beautiful inside & out.
Olivia is a native of Australia! ❤️😘✌️
I just saw a 'live' video of her singing ....'Magic'.....from 2004 or 2006....with the full orchestra. Gorgeous!
Nice woman, good singer. Started in probably mid 70s into the 80s, successful career. RIP Olivia, God bless!
Beautiful song from “Grease”
She really was a beautiful person inside and out. Wished I had met her. She helped a lot of people. She was at an airport and gave a stranger a ride home. I don't know a lot of people that'd do that. She was very talented, beautiful and had so much grace. She was the sweetheart, sweet and innocent but could gave those looks on stage that would bring any man to their knees
And i don't know a lot of people who know the proper use of 'that'd' 😋😋 Nice!
@@Ifyernotawakeyet it's just short for that would. Like haven't..
ONJ was an Angel 😇 on earth.. Everyone who met her can attest. R.I.P. sweet Olivia.
I normally don’t make comments but your channel is refreshing, compared to all the negative stuff out there. Thank you 🙏
This was one of my favorite songs by ONJ♥️
I had the honor to sing this song many times in my band while traveling through the country in the late 70's.🤗😎🎤
She is truly resting in great Peace💝 ✝️
My friend would love to see your reaction to Olivia and Andy Gibb. REST YOUR LOVE ON ME
I have been a fan for many years. She is a beautiful person with an awesome smile ❤️🤗🎶🎶
What a beautiful voice Rip ONJ
She was pure class
I have lost my two favorites from that era. John Denver and Olivia. How can we go on? It is a blessing to still have these songs to help us cope.
ONJ was from Australia. Judging by the impressions that she left on her family, friends and costars she was a genuine, beautiful and kind soul who will be missed greatly, dearly and deeply. ❤
40 years in the business and I have never heard one bad thing about her she was born in England and raised in Australia 💜💜
(As a fellow animal lover, she had me hooked)
Through the years, even as she changed her look along the way, fashion could never deny her authentic inner glow ❤
And now, the celestial journey home, back into the arms of the unconditional and those she loved on Earth.
Godspeed, Angel.❤
"A million lights are dancing
And there you are, a shooting star
An everlasting world
And you're here with me, eternally" (Jeff Lynne & ELO)
The story isn't over yet, anyway :)
John Travolta, such a classy dedication:
"We will see each other down the road, and we will all be together again! Your Danny, your John."
Wow ❤
I have been into her music since 1971 when she went top 10 here in Australia with IF NOT FOR YOU and BANKS OF THE OHIO
Banks Of The Ohio was my introduction to Ms Liv. No one has done a reaction to that song. I just love it 🥰
What a beautiful person. Beautiful voice.
Ohhh the Memories this stirs up. Beautiful Song Beautiful Lady, Beautiful time to be alive when this song was first released.
So sad She's gone on to a better stage. Amazing talent. Great choice Jamel Brother. 💗💗💗
She was as sweet as her voice. I can’t say that I had any of her music in my record collection, but I thoroughly enjoyed her songs when I would hear one. And her magic with John Travolta in Grease was one for the ages. You could tell they really liked each other. Rest In Peace Angel. 💕
My favorite female artist of all time. You said it perfectly. The whole package.
I like her duet with Cliff Richard titled "Suddenly"
