Improved ball striking is key to lower scores, but how do you do that?
How your trail arm moves in the golf swing is one of the most important factors when it comes to ball striking and this trail arm move is a game changer for so many.
Working on this in your golf swing can have dramatic effects on your golf shots giving you more distance, more accuracy, better ball flights and ultimately more control over your golf ball.
If your ball striking needs work id almost guarantee that this trail arm move can help you.

I have watched lots of teaching videos and Chris is up there with the best for getting across the steps to put into practice when trying to improve your swing.
Thanks Jim appreciate that đđ»
I totally agree!!
the skipping a stone motion is so natural and powerful. best swing instruction I've seen right here.
This is just brilliant. An instructor friend was just telling me about this concept but you just made it easy to see and made it accessible to regular (read: bad) golfer like me. Thanks Chris!
This video was super helpful. Absolutely a game changer as the title says. Iâve been watching a ton of videos and trying to improve my swing and I think this was the missing link. This is the first video Iâve seen on what to do with the trail arm. Awesome video!!
From ALL the videos l had watched on youtube you are the first to explain how the right hand, wrist, forearm, and shoulder contribute to the swing in which it could screw it up or leverage for power/speed in the golf swing. Sometimes l SMOKE that ball and l remember that beautiful feeling of how the club face buttered the ball but l don't know how the hell l did it but now l know. THANK YOU! l left the game about 15 years ago but now start hitting balls and getting my swing back to form before l go play because l don't want a long day at the golf course only at the office lol. Thank you for the tips!
Have seen this tip before Chris, but as there's so many thoughts going through my mind it gets forgotten. Thanks for reminding me, I must pay more attention to this one tip as its definitely my main problem.
What a great video. This is exactly what I have been looking for as I have toe shanking the club due to letting my elbow bow in the downswing. Thanks so much as now, I know where I am going wrong.
Thanks Chris, that's the best demo I've seen on controlling the trail arm đ
I just discovered this swing thought the other day and itâs really changed everything. I could not make consistent contact with the ball until I realized this with the trail arms
An excellent treatment of a critical move. I like the concept of the race between the elbow, hand and club.
Simple and brilliant
Chris another great video. The explanation is so simple and easy to follow. Off to the practice tee to combine the last two videos. Thank you.
This was an amazing lesson. Fixed all my issues!
Will be trying this Sunday
Great video, Chris. Love the pump drill you've shown on many videos for keeping my elbow from flying out and starting the dreaded over-the-top move.
Yeah thatâs a great drill to use Rick, often find myself using that with players
Awesome golf tip Chris, I'm going to work on it this week, thanks.
What a profound explanation!! Excellent!!
Thank you!
I just ordered your ball striking course .... you are a fantastic teacher!
Some of Ben Hogans 5 Lessons still apply today. Would you agree with the statement âAT ADDRESS, THE LEFT ELBOW SHOULD POINT DIRECTLY AT THE LEFT HIPBONE AND THE RIGHT ELBOW SHOULD POINT DIRECTLY AT THE RIGHT HIPBONE.â With a slight bend in the right elbow?
Considering the era Hogan wrote 5 lessons there is no doubt he was a golf genius! Great to see the visuals explained so well in today's era!
totally agree with you!
This video is gold! Thank you for sharing this knowledge!
Thanks Chris
Well done Chris đ
What else can be said, Chris is the one and only best teacher , thx so much again for this tip
Hi Chris. Great video and really well explained. I'm new to your channel having been recommended to have a watch. I've been struggling with my driver & 3 wood and your videos are really helping me understand what I'm doing wrong...
Very nice lesson here mate đ
Brilliant!
I think being a lefty and swinging right-handed I never noticed my elbow position at address hindering proper elbow flex. This makes so much since now, never had proper rotation of the trail arm since I don't throw right-handed. If you are a lefty swinging right-handed this should help tremendously. Thank you, Chris!!
You explained that really simply, so hopefully it will be easy to learn.
Thanks Dave appreciate it and hope it helps đđ»
That's the one I needed, top!
Great video thanks Chris. Please do one on the lead elbow. I've heard that the back (depends what you mean by front and back but by back, I mean the pointy bit!) of the lead elbow should point to the target - I'm not sure about this.
Hi Chris! I canât wait to try this!!!! Thanks!
Thanks David đđ»
A 5 handicapper & been playing 35 years now..
This beautifully explained video helps so much..
Golf is a never ending learning process..
Thanks Chris
Thanks Steven and your definitely right there, we never crack it
Very good.
Superb instruction as always Chris.
Thanks Alan
Yet again, a great explanation Chris đ I remember having the 'skimming a pebble' chat in a lesson sometime ago. If it had been fully explained in detail, like your video, I'd be on the LIV Tour now! đ Fantastic work đâł
Thanks Paul, and never too late, give LIV a call you never know đ
A really great video Chris. I just wondered if there might be a better thought to achieve the right elbow action? Iâm thinking that when we throw a stone, we would not ever think about the right elbow! Just wondering!! I do love what you have posted here đđ
This information is golden! It echos recent video from Eric Cogorno and Adam Porzak. Thanks!
You hit the nail in the head. I was pointing the inside of my elbow towards the target, once I started pointing it out my strike improved.
Great to hear Juan, small change but big differences
Very well explained
Thanks Neil đđ»
Chris is the trail arm motion you're teaching here the same for a driver swing? Thanks so much. This is a fantastic video.
Great lesson, thanks. How about a lesson on the LEAD ARM ELBOW from start to finish? Most teachers never talk about the lead arm elbow. Is it because the trail arm is the dominant arm, therefore the lead arm/ elbow matters very little ?
Can you comment on the importance of the correct grip in executing this?
Getting the right setup with forearm pointing forward and then correct folding of right elbow seems to be critically dependent on right hand position / grip on club.
One of the best explanations I have seen - going to try this tomorrow thank you
And have subscribed đ
Thanks so much đđ»
great video, spot on !
Thanks đđ»
Superb video, can I assume this applies to all the clubs in the bag?
Great video!
Thanks đđ»
Most donât consider the role the mass of the arms play in the golf swing. In the ball toss example it is the mass of the trail arm which accelerates the mass of the ball. Same in the golf swing with the addition of the mass of the lead arm which if pinned across the chest in the takeaway and downswing explodes down off the chest as shoulder turn back parallel like the lever arm of a catapult. But the lead arm + club is a dual-lever system more similar to the Trebuchet which whips its projectile around the primary lever.
The trail arm in the golf swing functions as a triple-lever system: upper arm + lower arm + club shaft and just as a dual-lever system can create more acceleration of the mass on the end of the levers so does a triple-lever trail arm vs. dual-lever lead arm. So what is actually happening in the downswing - if the golfer allows it to happen - is the lead arm flying down off the chest as shoulders reach parallel and the mass of that arm swinging towards target pulls the mass of the trail arm straight and drags the mass of the club head, now whipping down around hands, into the ball.
In focusing on correct trail arm position at setup, I'm struggling to not keep weakening right hand grip unless my right shoulder drops lower. This creates a lot of angles despite good ball striking. Is this as ok as the outcome feels or am I developing bad habits
Awesome đ đ
Nice descriptions
Thanks Dave
If the right elbow whites to the right hip and address, where does the left elbow point? If you have a reverse K position add a dress with the hands toward the forward knee, doesnât that help put the trail elbow in a more proper position?
Hi Chris, what if you are ambidextrous and the trail arm is not dominant? I am right hand/arm dominant but hit left handed.............. I have always struggled with the trail arm. Thanks for the videos though. regards mark.
Chris, I have never heard it explained this way. Went to backyard to try it out on foam balls. I never felt this before. It works great. More practice is needed to make it automatic. But, does this work with driver swing?
Thanks David and yeah as with anything lots of reps to get it to happen naturally, but will work with driver too yes
It's soooooooo important ....
I understand the theory of why getting the elbow into a throwing position helps the swing but I have limited flexibility to do that. What exercises do you suggest to help gain flexibility, or suggest other alternatives to compensate?
Hey Nicola, yeah that will be the case for a few out there I think, limited flexibility. Itâs the trail shoulder that needs to range off motion so anything that helps with that should be good for the swing. I have a 30 day course on my website which is designed to free up the body and increase range of motion, that could help
Wow
Hey Chris! It appears the link included in your description of this video to your website, goes to a page that says the page no longer existsâŠIâm on an iPad and connected to Wi-Fi in the USâŠ
A thanks for letting me know, Iâll have a look into why thatâs happening, thanks
Whatâs your take on Mike Adamsâ philosophy? In your opinion are there under, side cover, cover golfers that naturally move in different patterns?
Yes
What am i doing wrong if the ball keeps going straight right with no distance?
When I throw hard in a skimming motion, my right palm actually turns down and the elbow moves directly away from the target. Then at the top of the throwing motion, the right hand quickly flips up and back (almost like holding a tray of drinks) and the elbow drops, then I fling the hand forward. I don't think it's quite the same motion as the back swing you're demonstrating. You're demonstrating more of the motion of swinging a tennis racket.
Chris, this is always more difficult for me as I am naturally left handed, but play right handed. I would throw the ball with my left handđą
Yes. As a left handed, we always focus on the left leaving the right elbow every where around causing heavy shots. We'll need to correct our right and keep practising it.
have to check this very carefully .. don't think I at the worst .. but might be half way wrong.
Holy shâŠ, itâs all about that set up.. and it does happen in a natural way without forcing or racing elbow in.. you do feel like your throwing the club or skipping a stone ..crazy. Have to remember not to force it
Yeah that set up can be a deal breaker if wrong
Does this apply to the driver too Chris?
Yes every club Nick đđ»
No invite?
