I wonder what the deal is. Luke Thomas does in depth footage breakdowns but I believe he gets flagged by youtube and has to keep appealing as fair use to get the videos back which i'm sure is annoying.

I think you’re right. Islam has the take down/grappling threat secured. Now he’s really improving his striking game and he’s getting really good at it .
He seems to be improving much quicker than any mma fighter yet. He’s going to be unstoppable
I have to agree from volk 1 to volk 2 the difference was big. But I still feel that was a stupid take for volk to go on should have had a camp an been at his peak.

@@guilliman1990Even in the first fight against Volk, Islam did out strike Volk. The only reason people keep thinking that Volk got rob because of that last 20 seconds. Watch that match again, muted and u will see how good Islam was in that fight

If Arman couldn't out wrestle makachev then dustin wont either.If olivera the most dangerous grappler could not submit makachev then i dont see dustin having success there.dustin have a punchers chance.but skill wise makachev better.
Makhachev is one of the best strikers in the UFC. He may not be flashy but he knows how to hit and not get hit 👍🏽
He's not that good. The threat of takedowns gives him a big advantage. He's mid-tier amateur at best.
@@Gojimaru up until fighting vold his strike defence was really high, his striking accuracy is higher than the best strikers and his knocking fighters down and out. Beats each fighter at his own game. Name a better striker in LW?

What’s the point of having a discussion of ‘if it’s boxing only’ or ‘if it’s submission grappling only’? It’s called mixed martial arts, not split martial arts..
I’m not saying Makhachev is the best striker in his division.. but at least keep the parameters of the discussion meaningful, please..
@@saifaldin_ He's an average striker in mma. In pure striking he's an amateur. His main striking advantage is that he's a southpaw and that nobody wants to wrestle with him. That's about it. Does it work for him? Sure. He keeps it simple, which is a good thing. His good defensive stats come from people trying to keep distance and counter him.

Islam on the countdown episode worked on the conditioning in high altitude
He was born and lives at high altitude, that's levels above doing a fight camp at altitude.
How?
The problem is we know who Dustin is. Hes not going to change everything for his last fight. Hes not going to shoot takedowns or throw head kicks. Hes going to try and close the distance and outbox Islam but if he cant stop the takedown or if he gives up his back hes cooked :(

I'd love to see Porier retire as undisputed champ, he deserves it but Islam seems unbeatable at LW and maybe even WW. He improves every time and beats each fighter at his own game. But hey it's the right game, one mistake means anything can happen.

the hardest part about prognosticating is you never know what most of fighters will do. will they do the thing they should? or the thing they want to? some guys you know absolutely some you just think you do. will islam try to strike with dustin? will dustin try to defend takedowns rather than pull gilly? if you knew those answers for certain you could bet your house pretty safely on this fight.
Not a single human today are certain whether they will be alive tomorrow or not, what makes you think they will know exactly what the outcome of this fight would be?

If there's one reason I want Dan Hardy back working for the UFC - it's so that he can get the permission to use the fight footage to break down.
It just hit harder when he could break down moves step by step with the videos.

I think Dustin needs to channel his inner Chuck Liddell and keep it standing. Mixing his punches to the head and body while also mixing in kicks to the legs and arms of Makochev. Battering the arms will make it harder for Makochev to grapple effectively.
For that to happen, Poirier’s timing needs to improve by a lot.. Makhachev is good in distance management.

That’s why I watch your analysis,It’s the reality rather than emotional and biased analysis.
one thing i learned after watching his benoit fight is never count that man out. that was a damn risky fight to take, i was sure he was gonna lose to that guy.
Dan perfectly conveyed how I feel about this fight. Makhachev is too young, too fast, powerful, in addition to being a great wrestler and a good striker. Terrible matchup for Dustin Poirier and the only thing making this worth his while, from a competitive standpoint, is the fact that it's a championship fight. Even if he doesn't have much of a shot at winning it.
Islam Makhachev is going to be 33 this year but I do agree it's a bad matchup for Dustin. The difference between Khabib and IOslam is Islam is more willing to strike compared to Khabib.

Excellent commentary!👍In my opinion, the reason why Dustin Poirier is not able to work on mat wrestling/grappling defense against someone like Makhachev is due to Dustin Poirier having major hip mobility issues. Because of Dustin's previous hip injury.
Also, it is Makhachev's overall physicality and ground control pressure that is a bad matchup for Dustin Poirier. The only way anyone else will be able to beat Makhachev is if they match Makhachev's overall physicality and pressure, have slightly better stand-up skills, and are a more elite mat wrestler than Makhachev. That type of fighter still does not exist in the division. But someone will eventually come along to beat Makhachev. It is only a matter of time.

@@jm12green31Of course, I have. Arman is one of the only fighters that has ever taken down and controlled Makhachev. But I just don't think Arman has the finishing ability as far as submissions or striking to beat Makhachev. Plus, Makhachev's striking has improved since Arman and him last fought.
Honestly, I can't stand Makhachev. I have been wanting him to loss for a while now. Unfortunately, I just don't think there is any fighter in that division that can beat Makhachev right now.
Like I said, "Eventually someone will come along and beat Makhachev." But I just don't think it's going to be Dustin or Arman.

Makachev believes that he is invincible. When he's not. And there is always someone better that comes along to humble fighters like Makachev.
