    27:42 That's the main reason why my results on tygem got better when i stopped using the estimator... When you see your opponent in a lead like that, it's easy to make an emotional unreasonable move. Same trap can happen with counting, if one uses it as the only tool for judging a position

    6:30 I really like what you did there. You know that I am a paladin of go. Paladin's like chasing dragons around and giving them exercise.
    I think you did the right thing 😉😁😁😁. (Peyton sharpens Payson Fox's sword!!!)

    Usually I find your videos more entertaining than educative for my level. But this one was as educative as entertaining.
    And damn, was it educative! One of my favorite for the past couple months.
    Interesting how you could go from that very boring game that got you bored and salty to this game in one session.
    Keep the experiments up :)

    This has inspired me to go lose 10 games in a row with clamps that don't work

    I can't speak for others about killing, but one of your 'weaknesses' in B2B is that you can't remember what it was like to have the reading skills of someone at that level. I'm a 13k and I've seen the following:
    You decide NOT to kill a group because you think a 1kyu can't read it (I could)
    You decide TO kill a group because 'that's basic, right?' (can't read it)
    Honestly, it's all good entertainment and neither of those ever dissuaded me from watching your videos. I think if you're looking to really hone in on audience opinions, it wouldn't be bad to have a consult with maybe one of your patreon students who are at the level you're targeting for a video - they could answer whether you can tell the life and death status of groups, kind of get a read on what you can kill because of opponent overplays and what you need to let live.
    Personally? I always find it more entertaining and useful to learn how you kill things, but I've also definitely learned more strategic stuff when you let groups live. You do you! And I second the notion that this video was particularly enlightening overall and maybe the sanrensei has some utility!

      Problem is you nailed it in 2! When you do ask someone if they can read something, some can and some cant cause everyone's life and death is different. So, i /try/ to keep it to the easier ones when possible. Glad you enjoyed the video!

    31:18 thanks for resharpening everyone's awareness of the power of the clamp! Mine included. Still, you kind of admit that your opponent reacted right afterwards. Given no life, one can either treat the entire group lightly, hoping for some aji shenanigans later on, run for it, or quietly resign. And no one has ever won any game by resigning!

      In way of explanation: To us Kyus, playing a clamp is unintuitive, somewhat frightening even. Because it is in its nature that the clamper receives two stones that are cleanly split from the start. Thus the clamp is pruned from the reading tree before potential benefits have been spotted. Especially if you play against a clock.

    Very good. Like this with your early 3-3 vids. Thx!

    Resident #DDK4Life here, I think on the DDK level, people are only invading the 3-3 if it's obviously open (meaning that there's no other stone anywhere near the corner.) To a DDK, that third stone on that side might be scary enough to keep them from trying a 3-3 invasion because they aren't sure what happens when you block and build the wall from bejebus on that side. The huge wall scares the DDK. Even just a wide large knight move seems to keep more DDKs from invading a corner with a 3-3 invasion, because they don't know the joseki well enough to judge how it will play out and if they are actually alive.
    I'm assuming at SDK and Dan levels this fear shouldn't exist (although admittedly people playing Sanrensei feel like people who have been playing longer regardless of rank and therefore feel like people you shouldn't risk pushing around with your new ai inspired moves.) So I too am curious and maybe I'll try a building game or two with Sanrensei (black) to see if I get ridiculously invaded on the DDK levels.

    @dwyrin, I think the reverse basic would be nice as well. To understand how we can oppose sanrensei (I find it quite scary actually)

    No one's going to play the early 3-3 against sanrensei, because sanrensei is so bad, no one needs to play optimally!

    • @keedt
      @keedt Před 4 lety +10

      This is a fine example of trolling miai: it contains two mildly offensive statements of roughly equal strength: "sanrensei is so bad" and (implied) "3-3 invasions are optimal".

    • @kj01a
      @kj01a Před 4 lety +2

      @@keedt the sanrensei one is serious. It's not that its bad, you're just going to play it wrong unless you're takemiya.
