    Protecting your car long term with a ceramic coating can be easy, see our step by step guide on how to ceramic coat any car, new or used.
    1. WASH
    2. IRON REMOVER
    3. CLAY MITT/BAR
    4. PAINT CORRECTION
    5. PANEL PREP SOLUTION
    6. CERAMIC APPLICATION
    7. CURE TIME
    BONUS: INTERIOR PROTECTION
    Ceramic coatings can be intimidating, but they don't have to be difficult. To pull off a long-lasting layer of ceramic protection, it is more about taking your time during the preparation phase than having a high level of skill applying ceramic to paint.
    Once the vehicle has been properly prepared with a wash and decontamination, it truly is the paint correction process that will make your ceramic coating pop. Because of that, it is also the most labor-intensive and time-consuming step.
    Once you have the surface as pristine as possible you'll be ready to apply the ceramic coating of your choice. Make sure to follow the steps recommended by the manufacturer, for Malco's EPIC Ceramic Coating, it is a single layer application. This is to be applied in a cross-hatch pattern and then buffed off with a microfiber panel by panel.
    Once finished, make sure you're allowing the proper cure time so you're ceramic has time to harden and won't be ruined by water or weather.

    I've pasted and edited the below from a site for general interest.
    Thanks.
    '...A ceramic coating's hydrophobicity can be lost if it's not maintened because of surface energy. Surface energy determines the behaviour of a liquid when falling on a surface. The lower the surface energy is on a surface, the more difficult it becomes for liquids to cling to the surface, to pool. Ceramic coatings are formulated for a low surface energy, which is what allows them to bead liquids. Surface energy isn’t stable, it isn't fixed. It rises as the surface becomes contaminated, reversing the hydrophobicity. Surface energy also rises as the coating abrades...'
    I don't want to advertise, but I'll say a product is available to find online which combines a car shampoo with an si02 ceramic coating.

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před rokem +1

      It depends on the product you are using. If you have corrected your paint with a filler-free compound, washing will not hurt anything. If you've used a wax or polish that contains fillers, washing will remove some of those, making scratches etc. more noticeable again. The proper order is to wash, correct then prep with a product like our EPIC Ceramic Final Prep Wipe before applying your coating.

    Does hot/cold or humidity affect those curing numbers? Also, I have a new truck, just turned 1K miles. After taking delivery I fully hand washed and waxed (DA polisher) it in prep for winter, does that wax have to be stripped?

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před rokem

      Hello @klutch14u!
      Our EPIC PRO Ceramic Coating should always be applied in a garage and factors such as heat/cold and humidity may affect curing time. For cure time, it may take up to seven days to fully cure and we require the vehicle to sit for a minimum of 12 hours before being driven. We strongly recommend allowing the vehicle to cure for 24 since this is when your vehicle is able to get wet and be exposed to the elements once again. Beyond this point, your vehicle is fine to be driven again.
      As for the wax on your vehicle, this will need to be stripped prior to application of our ceramic coating for proper and long-lasting results.

    • @MalcoAutomotive

      Hi Fernando! Good question. A vehicle must be garaged for the duration of ceramic installation to ensure no contamination of the coating. It can take up to 24 hours for the newly installed ceramic coating to cure. To achieve decent results with a quality ceramic coating, access to a garage is non-negotiable.

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před rokem

      Hi Ashley! Good question. You want your surface to be as smooth, corrected and contaminant-free as possible before applying a coating. The coating will lock in whatever is underneath and protect from future contamination, etc. Using an alcohol-based solution as the final step before applying a coating is vital to removing any remaining residue etc. from the polishing/correction step. This will also ensure full and complete adhesion of your coating. Hope this helps!

    If I'm using a buffing compound for paint correct, then why does the car need to be clay bared?
    I'm asking because it seems like the compound would do what a clay bar would do even better.

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před 2 lety

      Hello! Claying and correcting/compounding accomplish different tasks to get a vehicle surface to its final finish. The clay bar (or clay alternative) is designed to remove imbedded contaminants that are not removed through general washing. Claying should be done prior to buffing or waxing a vehicle, to avoid working those contaminants into the surface and micro marring. Compounding or correcting the surface is meant to smooth the surface, reducing and removing light scratches, oxidation and defects, which clay bars do not have the ability to do. Hope this helps!

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před 8 měsíci

      No, this cannot be done. Surface preparation is critical with a product like this which is why the first steps are necessary. As for driving it around, this will not increase cure time and will allow contaminants to embed themselves in the coating. A vehicle must be garaged for the duration of ceramic installation to ensure no contamination of the coating. It can take several days for the newly installed ceramic coating to cure completely. However, after 24 hours, the vehicle can be exposed to the elements, once again.

      for a minimum of 24 hours. Complete bonding with the paint can take up to 7 days, so it is vital to have garage access during this time. No further maintenance is required during this time. However, allowing the coating to cure completely is essential to the longevity of the finish. Thanks!

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před rokem

      Hi Stan! This is a personal choice. Adding ceramic to a PPF may add enhanced durability, but you may not need it. It is also important to note that the quality of the PPF will affect the longevity of the ceramic coating. Cheaper PPFs can shrink, etc., causing the layer of ceramic coating to crack or wrinkle. It is not a necessary step to take. However, some people do apply both. It is up to you!

    I like you how you say if your cars brand new or new to you. Just say New or used man. I have a brand new car and am trying to see if I should buff my car at all. It has no swirls.

    Does this mean I would have to let my car cure 7 days in the garage without driving it? 😕

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před rokem +2

      Hi @thesantos173!
      Our EPIC PRO Ceramic Coating takes 7 days to fully cure, but it is not undrivable during the entirety of that time. After being applied, the car CANNOT be driven for 12 hours and needs to be kept dry from rain and other elements for 24 hours. But as long as the weather is clear, the vehicle is able to be driven after a minimum of 12 hours!

      Our fallout remover Iron Blaster is one of the strongest formulas in the industry. It does carry a pungent odor! We recommend applying this product outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Thanks!

      Hi Arturo! You will want to make sure you wash, decontaminate and correct your vehicle paint with a compound, before polishing.

    that isn't how you clay bar...

    • @MalcoAutomotive
      @MalcoAutomotive  Před 2 lety

      Hi Ryan! No clay bar is being used in this video. Our dual-sided Clay Wash Mitt serves the same purpose, as it uses advanced clay polymer technology to remove tree sap, paint overspray, water spots and rail dust from vehicle surfaces. The fabric side is designed for general vehicle washing. The other item you may be confusing for a clay bar is our ceramic Applicator Pad. This pad, in conjunction with a clean, suede cloth, is used to apply EPIC Ceramic Coating.

      Make sure it hazes for at least 3-8 minutes. It really depends on humidity and amount applied.
